Closed on Sunday. Unbelievable. The entire downtown area is packed with people shopping, and this place is closed.

Do you remember Black Market Minerals? With a limited budget of a pre-teen(most of it went to saving up for Claire’s, Hot Dog on a Stick, and a TLC cd over at Media Play), I could never really afford the whimsy. Lots of regrets for not ponying up for the didgeridoo though! I reference Black Market Minerals, because many of the items at Anatolian Art could just very well be at home there sans the polished rocks. Beautiful shoes, bags, jewelry, everything. I’ll side a little with A.K.‘s review, because the prices are somewhat steep, however, consider that you might have to do some traveling or hunting to find a lot of the wares here. Expensive yes, but the merchandise though, is remarkable and stunning. But don’t fear, it seems like a place you can bargain a bit with them. Come here to indulge in your whimsy, travel without really leaving the city, and prepare to be in awe(of the exorbitant prices or the beauty-potato potatoe). This is definitely a stop if you’re out of ideas for the girl/guy who has everything or the recipient that you barely know. You will definitely impress.

Strollling around Palo Alto after 9pm on a Saturday night, i walked by this store… I was intrigued with the colorful lanterns so i went in and browsed… I scored a cute burnt orange pashmina scarf… that’s very urban-ish… and a ring… WATCHOUTTHOUGH. BARGAIN… I asked for a price on this ring, and the guy at the counter quoted me $ 72. I would not have bought that for the price he was asking for… And then i asked if he can do it for $ 50.(the asian in me eh?)… He then asked the owner of the store… and the owner was like«Oh. this is even less than $ 40…this is $ 32»… Can you imagine the balls of charging more than double the price??? Thank goodness the owner was honest. and Thank goodness he was there. Well. the ring was really cute… So i purchased it anyway. But next time. deal with the owner for prices. He knows better.

Biggest yuppie rip off ever. The smallest of the lovely Turkish lanterns in the window are $ 90. You can buy them in Istanbul for $ 5. So, if you are planning to buy more than 14 of them, you might as well fly to Turkey and get them yourself. Sorry if I’m being unfair, but it seems to me that they are taking advantage of the neighborhood and people with too much money who have a fetish for things that are foreign. If they sell the lamps in a lower-rent neighborhood with a more reasonable mark-up I maybe would buy something since those glass mosaic lamps really are pretty

my friend had bought me a beautiful votive candle holder from this store, and from then on i was intrigued. after getting my hair done, i wandered there and discovered a wonderland of gorgeous, handmade wares from turkey. abdullah, the owner was gracious and friendly. he gave me a free bracelet. we both have photography as a common interest so we fiddled with our cameras and lenses and talked a bit. he offered me tea and a turkish delight treat. great stuff, great service. let’s keep them in business as these little stores are not surviving this economy.

Out for a Friday night stroll toward University Ave, my hubby and I were pleasantly surprised to find Anatolian Art! I am captivated by these type of shops. Tastefully colorful bags, scarves and ornate lanterns hang outside — I am reminded of the old world Fez market, in Morocco. Just better service and much cleaner, better crafted goods(from Turkey). The owner, whose name escapes me at the moment, was very attentive to customers. He was eager to answer questions from all, even bringing down several items for folks to have a better look at and feel. He offered us turkish gelly treats, too. Before reaching the gorgeous rugs and draperies you’ll pass jewelry ranging in value and lovely dishes, more scarves, lanterns and purses. Most notably, the wall is lined with these beautifully hand-crafted boots! I am not usually a sucker for such items but my husband could see the gleam in my eyes! HA! He encouraged me to try them and see how they felt ‘for fun’. The next thing I knew, Brian was asking the owner about the boots on the manikin which we helped, de-boot and switch to another pair. The manikin was wearing the only one of this color & happened to be the exact size needed and preferred flat heel. The boots I chose are very well made, I scrutinized them intently when I realized my husband was serious about purchasing them. The stitching, even the zipper, has been carefully assembled with good quality and care. The owner informed me their«Grand Opening» will be held soon — more boots will be available. After chatting with the owner for several minutes, we were ready to check out but this pair, being on the manikin was without a price. The owner offered $ 20.00 less than the amount of the other boots and allowed us to pick out a bracelet and key chain for ourselves. The boots are comfortable to wear. I am very careful with them & no problems with the sticking. I’ve received several compliments, always pointing ladies to Anatolian Art! BOTTOMLINE: Great service, even better quality products! We will be back either for ourselves or others!

The owners are so friendly and knowledgeable. Just in time for the holiday season: I bought a couple of candle holders, wonderfully handmade! Great customer service! I will be back!
