I have been going to Carlos to cut my hair since 2004. The quality, knowledge, and his attention to detail are what set him apart from the rest. He takes time to get to know his clients, and notes down any details, changes, or preferred product to personally attend to each client. When you go to Carlos, it’s not about quantity, it is about quality! You are not just buying an in n out haircut, you are buying his allocated amount of time to personally attend to you. I like that he is always up-​to-​date with fashion, styles, cutting & color techniques, and knowledge of different hair types. Being in the music & nightlife industry, it is important to always have a quality/​clean haircut, and I always leave his chair more than satisfied.

Since moving to California, I’ve been keeping my hair longer. And in part I’ve been able to do that because I have Carlos, a stylist with a great eye who gives me good-​looking, long-​lasting cuts.
He’s also patiently realistic. I don’t put product in my hair, and I’m not going to start. Rather than insist that I should, Carlos understands, and found a way to cut my hair that looks good anyway.
He’s also an engaging person with a fascinating personal story. This is the best time I’ve had talking to the person who cuts my hair since I was 12. I’ve sent all of my male friends with moderately difficult hair here. You should go too.

I was searching for a new hairdresser and a bit stressed about it after one bad experience, and Carlos came highly recommended. I explained what I needed and he listened carefully. I could tell from the way he observed and touched my hair that he’s really good at what he does. He proceeded to cut my hair expertly while engaging me in a delightful conversation. It’s one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had because I was so relaxed knowing he would do a great job, and he did. Then he did something no other hairdresser has ever done — rinse my hair out so I don’t shed all over the place, and gentle dry my hair with a diffuser so it doesn’t get frizzy. He also used a natural product on my hair after first checking with me. I appreciated the extra touches and his attention to detail. My past hideous experiences have been healed! I’ll definitely be going back. I paid twice what I usually pay but it’s so worth it!!! Thank you so much Carlos!!!

Carlos is awesome! He’s a really cool guy and he is great with even difficult hair like mine! I never used to get my hair cut because I would ALWAYS be disappointed, but I’ve been to him a couple times now and I’ve been very pleased both times and plan to keep going back to him!

Great haircut every visit. Plan for your cut to take about an hour (about how long mine takes, normal guy short haircut) as he is very thorough, but it is time well spent. He is good at reading social ques — if you don’t want to talk you don’t have to, but conversations are usually interesting as he has an interesting client base. Have NEVER found a missed clump of hair, always walk out of there 100% sure that the cut is perfect. Price is $ 50/​cut, includes tip. There are defintiely cheaper options out there, but you get what you pay for. Now if we could only get Carlos up to SF once in a while…

I’ve been looking for quite a while for a quality men’s hair cut in the area and dropped in yesterday to get my hair cut by Carlos about a half hour before closing. He did a great job and is a very nice guy too. I’ll be going back again!

This is the second time I took Unilocalers’ advice for a hair stylist, and the second time I was disappointed.
For $ 65, I expect, if not a decent haircut, at LEAST a decent blow-​out. Carlos was «finished,» and sent me on my wait with my hair a foofy mess and half-​dry. That is just completely unacceptable! The only other time I’ve been sent on my way with half-​wet hair was when I volunteered to be hair model (for FREE) at a Bumble and Bumble Salon. I even asked politely if he could at least try to get the little cowlick out so it wasn’t a total loss, but he couldn’t do something even that simple (I do it in two seconds when I do my hair myself). So not only did I have to do a walk of shame to car a few blocks away, I had to spend another 30 minutes at home rewetting and blow-​drying it out myself.
Carlos, I’m sure, is a great guy. But I was subjected to constant inane chatter for the duration of the (very slowwwww) haircut. It’s fine to be friendly to your clients, but they are primarily there to get their haircut — not to make a friend and chitter chat forever. I tried just giving polite one-​word answers, but he didn’t get the clue that I didn’t want to chat. I was worried he wasn’t even cutting my hair correctly, he was talking so much. I’m not trying to be rude, as I’m sure Carlos, you’re reading this. It’s just a word to the wise that not all your customers want to sit and chat for hours.
The two stars are because he didn’t F up my hair. But I won’t be going back.

Carlos was amazing! He cut my hair and my boyfriend’s hair a few weeks ago. First of all, he was able to get us in right away for back-​to-​back Saturday appointments (which never happens) and from start to finish, the experience was wonderful.
My boyfriend and I just moved up to the area from San Diego a few months ago, and we had both put off getting haircuts for far too long because we didn’t want to go through the trouble of finding a new stylist. But after some research, we settled on Carlos because he seemed to have good reviews from both men and women, and from people with various hair types. (My hair is very fine and very straight, and I’ve had trouble in the past with stylists cutting it the same way they would cut thick hair.)
Carlos definitely did not disappoint. He cut my boyfriend’s hair first and it looked great. Then, when it was my turn, he took the time to listen as I described the exact cut I wanted. I was switching things up from having hair down to my lower back to cutting it up to my shoulders, which is a scary change in and of itself, even with a stylist that you love. But after a few minutes of talking to Carlos, I knew that I could trust him to do a good job. And wouldn’t you know it, by the time he was done, my hair looked even better than I had imagined. And now, three weeks later, it still looks great!
Also, Carlos was a really nice, down to earth guy. He was easy to talk to, he gave my boyfriend and I some great restaurant recommendations, and on top of all that, he refused to let us tip him! What more could you ask for from a stylist? I can’t recommend Carlos enough. If you’re on the fence about choosing a new stylist, take my advice and give him a shot. You’ll be happy you did!

Best highlights ever!

Carlos is fantastic. In addition to being super nice, he really, REALLY knows hair. My boyfriend and I actually went together, and his knowledge of our different hair types was amazing. I might have been skeptical of all the things he taught me about my hair (it’s just hair to me), but the end product speaks for itself.
Reasonably priced; gratuity is included (which is nice).

I have curly hair and Carlos (he’s not @ Rocket salon in Palo Alto) has cut and colored my hair many times. Curly/​wavy hair can be very tricky, and I like it that Carlos is always trying to learn how to best manage the curls. He remembers that I don’t like it when people rub my hair with the towel after washing it, and that I hate thinning shears. He cut my hair when it was medium long and short — all of the haircuts look very good. I’ve been trying different stylists in the bay area, and decided to go back to Carlos for now.

Long time Unilocaler but first time reviewer and it is only fitting Carlos get’s my first review. I have been with Carlos for a few years now and I have always left with a good haircut… he is consistently good. He has a natural talent for cutting hair and is fully deserving of a five star rating.

As a young guy in need of a simple, clean, and consistent haircut, I admit that I had reservations about getting one from a person who — based on most of the reviews — seemed to specialize in women’s styles and hair color. I am extremely happy that I gave Carlos a try as he has done an exceptional job from day one.
When I first met Carlos he spent quite a bit of time listening to my request for a haircut that was stylish yet professional and easy to maintain — he delivered on all fronts. He gave me a cut that repeatedly garners compliments but isn’t in your face, so to speak, in addition to being fast and easy to style every morning. Recently, I challenged Carlos to update my style just a bit without getting too radical — he did a remarkable job and I am extremely happy with the result.
What’s more impressive than his aptitude and skills for men’s haircuts and styles, is Carlos’s willingness to adapt his hours to his clients’ busy schedules. More often than not, Carlos is available late on weeknights and weekends, which makes it easy to maintain a constant look despite a busy and erratic work schedule.

Carlos is a true professional, and clearly not only knows what he is doing but also enjoys it. The salon where he works is nice though a bit out of the way, but well worth the effort of finding the location in a somewhat off-​the-​beaten track part of Palo Alto.

I love Carlos! he’s super friendly/​professional and a great stylist! I’m one of his new clients and I highly recommend people going to him. He’s always there on time and always makes sure that you look your best before you leave the salon!

carlos is a great stylist for men. i’ve found few people able to make my hair presentable without spending a fortune and am therefore so happy to have found carlos. he takes great care with his work and it really shows. he’s also a great conversationalist with many interesting connections from around palo alto. i will return again and again.
he also doesn’t accept a tip, so he’s a bargain!

I went to Carlos based on the reviews on Unilocal.He spent considerable time discussing my hair and what I wanted before he went to work… it’s great to have a hairstylist actually take the time to do that! I had him do highlights on my dark brown hair. Usually I get highlights that aren’t noticeable or are too brassy. He mixed in some thicker strands and even underneath when I pulled my hair up. The color is great and I love the highlights. The price is very reasonable, and he doesn’t expect tips in the price he gives you. I went back recently to have him touch the grays and I’m still happy with the color. He works out of Rocket salon with another guy, and it’s a very nice, relaxing atmosphere. I highly recommend Carlos.

OK, at first I was a little unsure, given that I am VERY particular about my hair… Im asian, I have dark hair that has underwent a lot of dying in the past… So narurally when in attempt to go lighter, it almost always turns out a little reddish tint. I like highlights and i HATE the streaky look. I want light brown hair but as natural as possible.
carlos did partial highlighting in my hair and touch up my roots a couple of weeks ago and when he was finish, it looked nice. I wasn’t jumping for joy but it looked nice. After 3 shampoos, my hair lighten a bit and looks a lot more even out. It is gorgeous! I am so happy with my hair now, more than I have ever been… and trust me, I am pretty damn picky.
I will be coming back most definitely in 3 months or touchup and more highlights! Love it, thanks Carlos…
Oh his price is very reasonable and he is very nice… he does what you ask, unlike a lot of hair stylist that tries to get you to do something to your hair…

I have been a client for years, and have always been happy with Carlos. He is constantly training in the newest techniques for colours, and cuts. He is an excellent listener, and really helps create a great look.
His price is really reasonable, especially considering his skill. I have suggested him to quite a few friends and family members, and every one of them has been really happy with his work. Even got my boyfriend in there, he looked great. His clients are pretty varied, and he maintains a strong core of loyal customers.
