Deborah’s Palm is a fantastic resource center for women. On its website, it says: «Celebrating nearly four years, as the Peninsula’s only nonprofit women’s community center located in downtown Palo Alto.» I’ve been to two Divorce Seminars there, and both have featured speakers including Career Counselors, Therapists, Divorce Attorneys, Financial Advisers, and Co-Parenting Educators. Deborah’s Palm was there for me when I had that«deer in the headlight» moment of «What the heck do I do now?!» There are classes, seminars, workshops, support groups, and referrals at Deborah’s Palm. It’s a good place to know about if you’re a woman who is in need of some services or someone looking to volunteer or donate. It’s a very worthy organization, which has helped and continues to help many women.

Unfortunately, this well-intentioned facility is not handicapped accessible. There is an outdoor open«freight-type» elevator — but it is kept locked(user must find the groundskeeper to unlock it to go up/then again to go down). Also the elevator does not access both buildings of the center. And — and it is not sheltered from the rain. It rains a lot in the winter here. This is really too bad. I hope a real elevator will be installed inside both buildings.

It’s good to be a woman at Deborah’s Palm. Katie Ritchy and a host of volunteers gift wrapped her hopes and dreams at a grand opening luncheon festival yesterday with music, love, and feminine energy in the air. A could-this-be-true magical oasis for women in downtown Palo Alto offers affordable or free classes in fitness, cooking, sewing, art, lace; find massage, counseling, and concern! No glowing health, rich girl, model thin requirements; feelings matter here. PA has a new community treasure, Katie Ritchy, Clinical Psych MA.
