For a furniture store with such high end pieces, this location is simply too small to work.
There are only a few items on display, and even then, it looks crowded. The way the items are laid out doesn’t really help the customers envision how they would look in their houses and so that’s not much help either.
There were maybe 5 groups of people in the store and some with kids and it felt super crowded.

I’m another 1 star review for late delivery? Not surprised.
This is a review for my purchase of a dining table from DWR. I ordered my table back April 29^th, and I have NOT received my table as of August 17^th. Andrew, who was delightful, helped me with my order. Because the ship date was 8 – 10 weeks in his system (vs 6 weeks on the website), he offered free white glove delivery service. I took him on that offer. I assumed I would receive the table by the 2^nd week of July at the latest — which is 10 weeks after the order was placed. The first week of July, I pinged Andrew to check in on the status. He said that it would be another couple of weeks. Bummer — I wasn’t thrilled, but what was one more week of waiting? Days and days passed. I pinged Andrew again, and he told me my table was being shipped (from overseas, btw, NOT from somewhere within the USA, as it was stated on the website), and that I could go ahead and sell my old table because I would be getting my new one within a couple of weeks. Great. I sold my table. But then no word. Waited 2 weeks. I pinged Andrew again, he called, and said the shipment from the manufacturer kept getting delayed, and he wasn’t sure of the situation anymore. He was extremely apologetic, and offered me a discount. It was kind of him to do that, and I understand he’s not the one controlling the logistics. He told me he would update me once the table was «shipped». 2 weeks ago, he emailed me that the table was shipped, and that I would be receiving it within 7 – 10 days. Guess what. Day 10, no word. I emailed him again, and he responded saying it wouldn’t land in their warehouse until 2 days later. Well, again, it’s been 3 days later, and STILL NO WORD. I have been living without a dining table for a full month given the advice of Andrew.
BOTTOM LINE — what was to be a 2 month turnaround has more than doubled in time, and I still have not received my product. As a national retailer of extremely expensive and high end product, you would think they would have their logistics figured out. In fact, they are worse than any low-​average retailer. Unless the item is in stock and ready to ship (which might not be the case according to other reviews), I advise you not to buy unless you have months and months to wait.

Love their stuff. Wish the store itself could show more of the DWR offerings, as the selection for viewing on the showroom floor is very limited. My big complaint is the sales staff. Aside from the one male sales person who has been there for a number of years, I would say the rest of the staff could care less if a customer walked in. Case in point — came in this Sunday morning at opening, and the sales person was sitting at her desk, feet up on the chair that clients sit on when doing transactions, and didn’t even look up from her work. Granted, she did acknowledge me by saying something to the effect of «let me know if you need anything», but she didn’t smile, she didn’t make eye contact, she didn’t budge. She just continued to look down at her typing with her feet propped up on the chair. Talk about a chilly reception. And this isn’t the first time the sales people have been less than enthusiastic. I’ll shop at Room and Board anyday over DWR.

I like DWR and this store in general. Good, timeless furniture and personal service. What else would you want? Oh, in case if you have not figured this one out, this store will take your order and then stuff will get automagically delivered to your residence. Overall this is a fresh breath of air that is not quite common in the Pottery Barn America.

They have some cool stuff. Love all the silverware and nicely shaped dinnerware. Really chic and modern!
There’s a great selection of sofas, chairs, tables etc. The designs are pretty unique and specific to what you’re looking for. Spent quite a few minutes browsing and enjoying what the store had to offer. Lots of various colors and shapes.
Was a shame the sales lady sitting at her desk didn’t acknowledge us, ask whether she could help, or even say hello.
We left feeling neutral about returning. Will stick to ordering online.

We had been looking for a sofa for a long time yet could not find the quality furniture we both wanted. The great thing about DWR is that there stock is not cookie cutter. As soon as we walked throughout the door Nick and his sales team were efficient and attentive. We made the purchase and the delivery was right on time. Actually I think it was a week early. Once the sofa was in place it just changed the room. We are so happy to have found DWR Palo Alto.

Like this place as it’s closer to my home. Don’t want to drive long to SF. A bit small compared to SF but hey they have the latest stock of new items. Will come back to purchase some items again.

I agree with everyone else that things here are quite pricey so husband and I contemplate each piece carefully before purchase. We came browsing since they had a 15% off furniture sale the past weekend. I have a very active 2 year old son who wouldn’t sit still. He accidentally knocked over a glass top side table (after which I realized was $ 1400!). I was super embarrassed and offered to pay for the item. The two sales associates were both so nice, not once were they concerned about the broken side table, they continuously asked if my son was ok. I will be frequenting here more (with my son strapped in a stroller, no more free running in expensive furniture stores!). Their pieces, although pricey are timeless and great quality.

I spent days picking out the perfect table, comparing and contrasting from other sites. I finally found one on design within reach. I got all the way through checkout to the shipping page where the they would not deliver to my front door unless I pay a massive premium. They only deliver to the interior of the building which is totally not secure. What a crock! They may as well say they wont deliver at all when they only deliver to an inconvenient and insecure location. I’m boycotting them because they obvious are biased against people who live in multi unit buildings. They are biased from people who don’t live in the suburbs!

I also have had delivery issues with DWR. I ordered a sofa and a chair in ‘stock’ configuration and was told they would both arrive in 3 weeks. Four weeks later, I contacted the sales guy and got a terse reply that the sofa would arrive in 3 weeks, the chair in 4. That’s twice longer than the original estimate, and apparently no one was going to let us know.
After another 4 weeks, the chair finally arrived. I was expecting the sofa first, so I gave our old sofa away and we lived with just a chair for two more weeks until the sofa was finally scheduled for delivery.
Summary: estimate was 3 weeks for both items; reality was 7 weeks for one, 9 for the other. It makes me wish I had just ordered directly from the manufacturer.

I purchased an office chair over 3 months ago for $ 985 from the showroom in Palo Alto. It was delivered missing one wheel, rendering it unusable. After multiple calls to the 1 – 800 number on my receipt, I received a wheel that does not match the chair (shiny while the others are matte.) I am still trying to get the wheel that should have been on there in the first place. This store would be great if they checked their products before they shipped, answered emails, returned your calls, and fixed their own problems. I’ve contacted the store, the company and the manufacturer of the chair. I’ve been told that they have to call other people to solve the issue and I have yet to get a call back or a correct wheel in the mail. Apparently, since the store carries no stock, they have no control over anything. The manufacturer is in Pennsylvania and I am in California. I wish I could just drive there and get the wheel myself. This company is a mess. In retrospect, I should have only looked there and purchased from an online retailer. The products are all shipped from elsewhere anyway. Buyer beware.

Yeah, so they should call this place «Design Within Reach for the 1%». Well, okay, not the 1%, but you get my drift. At the moment, it is definitely not within my reach but I hope it can be in the near future. It would be lovely to pop in and say, «I’ll take the $ 410 Louis Ghost chair, put it on the Visa.»
Anyway, I like the space here off University Ave and the service was friendly and accommodating. I seriously have been lusting after the Philip Starck Ghost chair for quite some time and although am not in a financial position to buy right now, thought I would entertain the possibility.
The affable saleslady and I looked at the chair in different lighting, scrutinized to see how easily the polycarbonate would scratch (turns out it would scratch very easily) and how comfy it is. On a similar topic, we ended up talking about the different types of scratching posts on the market, but I would not hesitate to come back here and buy the chair should I come into a windfall or if I ever decided that style is more important than food.

The two shopping experiences we had were just great.
Ryan Walsh was especially helpful — knowledgable and pleasant, even when I had to cancel one order. The stores within the chain do vary — i wasn’t impressed with brief customer service in Berkeley– but Ryan made the in-​store option the best way to do business with a company. Will definitely come again

I am very disappointed with my DWR purchasing experience. I purchased a bed frame end of November and the receipt gave an estimated delivery date of January 21. Well, it is April 18 and I still do not have the bed frame. I’ve had several «your bed is ready» moments, only to keep calling the delivery service and have them tell me that they never received my order.
DWR should be embarrassed to do business with such unreliable vendors. I would not recommend any custom order from DWR.

i ordered a sofa. was supposed to come 3 months later??? took 6 months? am still waiting like 8 months later for a cushion for the sofa.
do they give a discount for their sucky slow service? nope. lame.
and when I am there, it’s like 3 groups of people waiting for 1 person to help us.

Bought a Flight recliner here a couple months ago.
The shopping experience was very relaxed and pleasant. The salesman who helped us chatted with us and gave us color samples to take home to help us make our decision. No pressure.
If only real modern furniture cost a little less-​then I could go back there more often!

It’s very well-​known designer’s brand furniture store in the nation. If you are looking for Europian furniture especially Italian brands, you must go this place first as initial research of your but list. They only collected modern designs from Europe. Most of products are quite expensive comparing to other typical imported furniture stores. However, they carry originals not the replicas unlike other online shopping mall.

There isn’t really a bad thing I can say about this branch, except that everything is expensive.
I love the store and I wish one day I can afford the real deal. For now I visit to drool and see the comparison between the authentic and the replicas. So far I’ve been very happy with the knock offs that I’ve been purchasing. All have been very close to the real deal.
Again, I hope that one day to be able to afford to make a purchase from there.

It’s a little small for a furniture store, but even so, they still have what you want. Went in yesterday to purchase a specific chair and the lady was very friendly in helping me get it. The Palo Alto store is tidy, which compliments the look of the furniture displayed.
Great thing about going to the studio is that you get $ 50 off when you spend $ 500. Bad thing is that you’re spending $ 500.
