Dr. Douglas L.

Business Owner

Dr. Douglas Lew, a doctor of dental surgery, heads Bay Area Prosthodontics in Palo Alto. He also serves as a part-​time clinical professor at UCSF.

A native Californian, Dr. Lew was born in Torrance and raised in Marina del Rey. He graduated with honors from the UCLA School of Dentistry. He continued his training in Hospital Dentistry, Advanced Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics at the UCLA Medical Center and the West Los Angeles VA Medical Hospital. During his residency, he also taught part-​time at the UCLA School of Dentistry.

Dr. Lew is a member of several professional organizations including: the ADA, the California Dental Association, and the American College of Prosthodontists.

I have been coming to Dr. Lew for more than 10 years for some serious prosthodontics work as a teenager. We worked together for a few years before I finally had beautiful teeth and 11 years of dental work was complete. It was such a relief and although I was an angry, immature teen who didn’t understand why it took so many years to complete the process Dr. Lew was fantastic through the whole process, always explaining everything and handling my parents and I with such professionalism. Although he is expensive, he, his staff and office are world class. I will never be able to thank him enough for giving me teeth!

Dr. Lew and his staff are amazing! From the minute I walked in I was greeted with a smile and everyone took the time to make me feel special. Dr. Lew fixed a tooth of mine that I was told couldn’t be fixed. When he finished my eyes filled up with tears… not only had he done what others said wasn’t possible but he did it perfectly! He really took the time to listen to what I wanted and made me feel confident and comfortable under his care. I am telling everyone how amazing Dr. Lew and his wonderful staff are!

I needed a new dentist after many years, and luckily my husband recommend his own dentist — Dr. Lew. All throughout the two visits I felt: welcomed, comfortable, and attended to. He and his staff are excellent and I look forward to many years of *hopefully* fantastic teeth.
The office itself is in a cute little center. Inside, the small waiting room is clean, fresh, and comfortable (even with some Ok! magazines, for the gossip girl in me). The cubicle type spaces for the chairs was equally nice. I would come to find out that the pictures on the walls of safari animals were actually photographs taken by Dr. Lew — WOW.
Throughout the visits, I completely felt listened to. And importantly for my nervous nature — at easy. Everything was explained thoroughly and when I had to come in a second time, I wasn’t dreading it (too much). The dental assistants were also quite good, helpful, and knowledgeable.
I wouldn’t say, «I can’t wait to come back!» But I can say, «I know I will be in good hands.»

I do not like dental offices but I love this one. I have had extensive dental issues and wound up with Dr Lew. Mucho $$ but worth it. If you want perfection, Dr Lew is it!

I have been seeing Dr. Lew for 15 years and I have never had a bad experience. I lost my front teeth when I was 12 and have had extensive dental work since then. When I found Dr. Lew he transformed my teeth into works of art. He is absolutely a perfectionist and isn’t satisfied until its perfect. His bedside manner is wonderful and makes you feel comfortable as if you were at a spa. I want to add too that I have had a lot of dental work before coming to Dr. Lew and have had many numbing injections and he has a technique where you barley feel it. I would highly recommend Dr. Lew especially if you have complicated teeth issues. His hygienists are also both thorough and spend the time making sure every tooth is cleaned properly. His assistants are also very experienced and have great bed side manner. As long as I have been seeing him his staff has never changed.
