I am so impressed with the musical training the children are being given
in their string instrument class. I am a professional violinist, violin-​teacher
who is volunteering as a aid in the Duveneck and Walter Hays string classes.
I am surprised at how trilled the children are to learn a string instrument.
Their eyes light up when they play the tune correctly.
Terry Merchant and Janet Lynch are the teachers in these classes; the classes are large and each child is basically working independently to accomplish the task.
Very skillfully, these teachers keep the kids working as a unit and accomplishing
quite a bit in a very short period of time.
