The Highway Community is founded on four simple values – truth, authenticity, community, and hope. You are welcome here with us, at whatever point along the spiritual journey you may find yourself. We are a community of imperfect people seeking to take the teachings of Jesus to heart, and into the world. We are a passionate, active community where everyone lends a hand. There is a place for you here, and we’re anxious to partner with you as we pursue the Kingdom of God together. We also hope you’ll join us as we seek to integrate these values into every aspect of our community.
History
Established in 2000.
Highway began in the mid-nineties as a Friday night worship service at the First Baptist Church of Los Altos. At the time, the MTV generation was coming of age, and Highway’s founders, Dean Smith and John Riemenschnitter, were passionate about working with Generation X – an emerging, young, media-saturated generation. As the ministry matured, it became clear that God was leading Highway to a unique role as a church entity. On Easter of 2000, The Highway Community began meeting weekly in Palo Alto. Highway currently holds no denominational affiliation and is an independent, multigenerational body of Christ-followers.
