I purchased a facial through Groupon. I called, left my cell phone number on the voicemail, and someone texted me to coordinate times. That worked great for me. Loved that feature.
I showed up today at 10 for my facial. First of all, the building didn’t have a sign mentioning Ethereal Health &Wellness. Luckily, someone walked in with me and told me it was in the basement level.
I waited at the reception desk for a little bit until the receptionist arrived. I guess I was the first appointment of the day. Still, I would expect staff to be there a little early. She came with her dog, Zen, who is a therapy dog and such a delight! He was the best part of the experience.
I filled out a questionnaire and waited for the esthetician to come get me. She came finally, introduced herself, apologized for the wait, asked me to wait a few more minutes and assured me I would still get to enjoy my full hour. By the time I was brought into a room, it was nearly 10:30. I changed and waited in the bed for her to come back.
She started cleansing my face (without asking anything about my skin or my needs), and it would have been preferable for me to hear her tell me what she was about to do next. I don’t get facials often. She didn’t put anything over my eyes to protect them, and she didn’t avoid my eye area, so all the cleanser, toner, scrub, etc also was used on my eye lids, some of which got into my eyes. I still feel like I have particles from the scrub in my eyes nearly 8 hours later. Then the steam machine started leaking and she tried to fix it, but ultimately had to go get a new one.
She proceeded with the rest of the facial and towards the end, someone knocked on the door. She went to answer it and left the room for a few minutes to talk to someone. I waited on the bed with my eyes closed, continuing to try to relax. When she came back she said «Oh, I’m done, I thought you were going to get dressed.» I didn’t know; she never told me. So I got changed and headed out. I played with the dog again, then left.
I’m very laid back and understanding when things don’t work out perfectly. But there were too many things that really made my experience today less than enjoyable. Lack of professionalism by the staff at large, with the 2 people that needed to attend to my needs both coming in to work late. Lack of proper technique by the esthetician in failing to avoid my eyes; the most sensitive area on the face. The faulty equipment is understandable. Things happen, but it was just the icing on the cake. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this spa to anyone based on my experience today.

Worst facial I ever had. The woman I had was completely unprofessional and made my entire experience uncomfortable by preaching about her religious beliefs the entire time. I was charged for a microabrasion which lasted no longer than 5 minutes.
The owner was totally unresponsive to my complaints. I highly recommend trying another spa!

I really wanted to like Ethereal unconditionally. I’ll try to be as fair as possible and list out the pros and cons of coming here.
PROS:
— Nice waiting room and friendly staff. Don’t let the «basement level» fool you, it’s actually a really nice space inside. Clean and professional.
— Magda does the best facials. I highly recommend her! She is thorough without being too excruciatingly painful when it comes to extractions.
— Ability to reschedule via phone call OR text is a plus.
— They have an adorable therapy dog, Zen, who makes waiting less frustrating. He’s super polite and never bothers you unless you invite him.
CONS:
There are some serious areas of improvement that if they address would easily make this place a 4, or even a 5 star. But these downsides are pretty significant.
— In the 3 times I have gone here I have never had my appointment honored on time. I always had to wait about 20 – 30 mins to be seen. I tried asking why they can’t just make adjustments to their scheduling if this is a recurring problem but didn’t really get an answer — was just told I would «get your 60 mins, don’t worry.» That’s not the point. The point is that if I schedule for a specific time, I’d like to see that time honored.
— Never a person at the front desk and no bell. Often times I just stand there 5 – 10 minutes waiting for someone to show up at reception. Zen is the most reliable receptionist they have.
— Clinician requests aren’t honored. If I book with Magda, I want Magda, darn it! I don’t want to be switched to another clinician who ends up using a steamer that is way too hot, nearly scalds me with a hot towel, doesn’t offer me a robe (even if it is a shoddy one with a dirty Velcro), and then does an painfully long extraction process. It’s not my first time in the extraction rodeo, but wow, that was gruesome. It made me super sad that they rescheduled me to see this girl, just because Magda was running late.
— As I mentioned, I love Zen, but they shouldn’t have a therapy dog ambling about without supervision. I’m not so much worried about the humans… actually more worried about the pup.
Overall, Ethereal has its merits, but some things truly get in the way of it becoming the great spa it could be. They are in desperate need of better organization, reception, and scheduling. Come to think of it, I asked to be put on their mailing list, and haven’t heard a peep. I don’t know how long they will survive unless these major areas of improvement are addressed. I’ll try to stop by in the future and see if things improve.

So, it took me a few days to even get someone to answer the phone just to get an appointment! Finally when someone answered, she pretty much told me to call the girl on her cell phone. What? I am calling a spa for a service. Then I said I would book the appointment with her. To which I asked about specific details and she said «umm, I think so.» Ooookay, finally when I asked her the price, she didn’t know the cost of the service!
Well, I am here and this place is off to a an awful start. For starters, I had to wait about 10 minutes for a receptionist to come to the desk, after another worker which was sitting there (unbeknownst to me and didn’t have the common sense to go get her in the first place) went and got her. She was nice, but was just chatting it up with other people instead of taking care of me. She saw me at the desk with my paperwork (not wanting to leave it out in the open) and just kept talking. Then walks over and is like, «yes?» I was like, «yeah I didn’t want to leave my paperwork sitting here.»
Secondly, there is the absolute most adorable dog running around the place. I am a 2000% percent dog lover, but how is this sanitary? What if someone was highly allergic? I’ve just never seen such a thing. And now I wrote this review, 20 minutes past my appointment time. I would let you know how the actual service was, but I am actually about to get up and walk out. I would say to definitely NOT COME HERE.

Just had lash extensions done by Magna. She was awesome, super nice, and super helpful! I have a crazy schedule. They were able to fit me in this morning at 7:30, which I really appreciated since they don’t even open until 8ish. The area was nice and clean, and very inviting. My only complaint is I wish the building had the name. They are located in the basement part of a doctors office. But other than that, I’ll be coming back in 2 weeks for my fill in!

The short version: next time I want to be seen a half an hour late after arriving 15 minutes early, receive a passive-​aggressive lecture, and experience excruciating pain, I’ll just make an appointment with my dentist. At least he’s a friendly guy.
If you are looking at this review to decide whether or not you should make an appointment here, PLEASE read this. For the record, I’ve had many facials at many different spas in the Bergen County area, some better or worse than others, so I’m not a rookie. I basically know how things work at these places and the different variations in services. This was an experience I can’t get over.
I showed up for my 2 pm appointment around 1:45. The spa is in a basement of a doctor’s office, which sounds worse than it actually is. The space itself is very inviting and relaxing, and the receptionist is friendly and polite. There is a therapy dog there who is a total love and the only saving grace for this review, but I also can understand why many people would be put off by it. Hasn’t anyone there ever heard of allergies? Again, didn’t bother me but I can understand complaints.
I filled out the standard paperwork and handed it in by 1:50ish. Sat down, and waited. And waited. Checked in at 2:15 and was told that I was about to be called back.
2:30 comes around, and a woman comes running into the waiting area, quickly introduces herself and runs away again. Fine, as long as I get my full service, I don’t care, but I could see someone being annoyed at waiting more than a half an hour for their appointment.
She takes me into the room, throws one of those tube-​top towels at me (which has old Velcro that won’t close… pretty gross), and leaves me to get settled. I let her know that the tube top won’t close so I’ll try to keep it wrapped around me. Before I can get the words out of my mouth, I’m peppered with questions. «You’re here for a full hour, right?» Yes. «Are you here with a Groupon?» Yes. «Can we upgrade you for $ 20 to our organic line?» No thank you. Please note the full hour question and answer, as that part is important. As soon as I refused the upgrade, her whole demeanor changed.
The facial itself was AWFUL. I got a thumb to the eye at least ten times, she basically slapped products on to my face and then scraped them off with a towel, and the extractions?! Let me say, I once had a wisdom tooth extracted and the surgeon didn’t give me enough Novocaine. That was a better experience than the extraction section of this facial. She was pushing down on my nose so hard at one point I was sure it was going to break, and I have cuts on the inside of my mouth from her pushing my teeth into my lips. I guess all of the whimpering and tensing up I was doing weren’t registering because not once did she offer me a break.
During most facials, once you get through the extractions, they then put a soothing mask on your face and rub your shoulders/​arms. I got a mask that was burning the now very sensitive pores on my face, and then she went over and was texting on her phone. It’s real cute that she didn’t think I could tell she was texting, but I could. She then half-​heartedly slapped my shoulders a few times for my «massage».
I had been polite up until this point, mostly because I hate confrontation. She goes to wipe the mask off of my (already burning) face with a SCALDING hot towel. Now, I LOVE the hot towel portion of a facial, usually, but this was absolutely scalding. I politely said that it was quite hot and that I needed a second, and she says, «Oh. Well, some people can take it. I guess you can’t.» EXCUSE ME? EXCUSE ME? Oh, it’s on. She then half-​heartedly asked me what I use on my face (I’m sure getting ready to sell me something) and for each answer I gave her, I got a nice passive aggressive response. «Oh, no WONDER your skin looks like that». «Oh really? That’s pretty bad». «You probably shouldn’t do that, but I know you will no matter what I say». Um, do you know me at all? By the way, my skin is not that bad, I had a small breakout the day before my facial. Not worth insulting me.
She then wrapped up our little torture session and left the room. I looked at my phone. The facial had lasted 32 minutes, most of it spent in pain and/​or annoyance. I can only imagine how much pain I would be in if I had actually gotten the full hour that I paid for! Nice of them to start a half hour late and then decide not to give me my full service as if it was my fault.
I very quickly had the receptionist scan my Groupon and then, for the first time in my adult life, I left without tipping.
It appears from reading these reviews that if you have someone named Magda for your appointment, you might make it out ok. Maybe Magda should open her own spa somewhere and run very far away from these people.

I was looking to book a facial last minute (day of) and found Ethereal Health & Fitness on Groupon. When I called to make an appointment, I had to leave a message but they returned my call within the hour.
The space is very calming and beautiful, just as a spa should be. The staff are friendly and I especially enjoyed my facial with Edyta. She is thorough, and asked appropriate questions to see what treatment would be best for my skin. I ended up purchasing two additional facials because I really enjoyed my experience.
I’m really looking forward to my next facial!

I went from a groupon figured let’s give this place a shot. Close to home. The atmosphere is quiet and looks elegant. I was very disappointed that there was no one at front desk and I had to wait 5 minutes before being greeted. Once I received my service it was average. Question do you think it’s appropriate to have a dog at a spa? My answer as much as I adore dogs is No. It was a big turn off. I did hear that there is a lady who does do colon hydrotherapy that is good but I haven’t experienced her yet. As far as eyelashes it a big No No for me. Other services may good that I haven’t experienced. I will rate it a 3 but it doesn’t compare to some spas that are out there.

Great atmosphere. Highly recommend Magda for facials!

I had a groupon for a facial that was expiring so I worked it into my busy day. Best decision ever! Heaven! I almost fell asleep. Magda was wonderful. I told her I have sensitive skin and use only hypoallergenic products on my face. She was super careful with all the products she applied to my face to make sure I had no reaction throughout my facial. She put a mask on my face, wrapped my face in a hot towel and rubbed my shoulders with eucalyptus oil and I thought I died and went to heaven.

I would have to say that this place is great after using my groupon. Magna was professional and gave me a full facial. I would definitely go to this place again.

This place is amazing. I found it through groupon and I’ve had nothing but a positive experience. Melissa is so friendly and accommodating. She always makes sure to fit me into her busy schedule and always takes her time on my lashes. They even will open early or stay late to make sure their clients are able to get the appointment that they need. The staff is so wonderful, and the spa is so relaxing and clean. I have gotten my lashes done several times and I am the most pleased with Ethereal Health and Wellness. Get your lashes done by Melissa, you won’t regret it! :)

This is a review for EYELASH EXTENSIONS. I found this spa on Groupon after falling in love with eyelash extensions. I made an appointment with Melissa. When I walked into the spa, my first thought was that it was super relaxing and trendy inside. They have a dog which I’m assuming the owner’s dog. Big turn off since this is suppose to be a professional, clean, spa, not someone’s home. I had my lashes done and when it was time to open my eyes I noticed how much more lashes could have been added and how piecey they looked. When I got home the lashes immediately started falling out. I called and looked on Unilocal for reviews and saw that Magna had great feedback so I decided to have them fixed by her. Again, it was time to open my eyes and my lashes where not as piecey but very short, she said maybe the glue made the lashes I had done with Melissa fall out easily, so she was going to use a different glue and shorten the length, which was fine because they were very full. About a week after having the fixed my eyes had green mucus in them and in the mornings they were crusted shut. I was really upset. When it was time for my 2 week complementary fill-​in, I made an appointment with Magna for 11:40, at 11:30 the spa called me and told me I would have to come 40 mins later because something happened to their computers and had affected all their appointments. I ended up coming the next day. I asked Magna if the glue she was using on me was formaldehyde free because I had been hearing this is a popular ingredient uses in lash extension glue and she told me she couldn’t answer that question and that she didn’t know. Definitely not something you want to hear from someone who is near your eyeball for 45 mins with tweezers and possibly formaldehyde glue. I opened my eyes and my lashes looked extremely piecey and very poorly applied, almost as if she did them quick because this was my complementary fill-​in. I expressed to her that I wasn’t happy and wanted her to add more lashes, and she told me she didn’t have time because she had another client waiting. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! I am a client. I am in the beauty industry and I would never say that to a client! I think it’s the most important thing to make sure your client always leaves happy and without green mucus n their eyes the next morning! Finish one job at a time. This place maybe good with their facials and other spa treatments but if you’re okay with a dog in a spa that you’re paying a decent amount of money in then this place is for you. Oh and not to mention this place is in the basement of a walk-​in doctors office. Between the dog and the doctor office I understand why I got an infection. If you want Lash Extensions try HY GORGEOUS or LASHFUL.

BEST OF THE BEST!!! I would give 10 stars if I could! SUPER friendly staff, the highest quality services I’ve found anywhere (and I’ve been to a LOT of spas both in Bergen County and in my travels) –this place has it all! I love the yoga classes and Magda’s facials are nothing short of divine –she’s the most talented aesthetician and one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. I honestly can’t say enough about how much I love this place… Truly a hidden gem!

OMG this place is absolutely amazing! I will be moving out of state soon but wanted to get a facial before doing so (you know, to put my best face forward). Well after researching about a dozen places offering facials on Groupon, I decided to give Ethereal a try. The décor is very cute and the ambiance is perfectly soothing and relaxing. Magdalena did my facial and it was nothing short of heavenly. She’s super friendly, very easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable about what works best for your particular skin type. I’ve never felt so pampered in my life. I will definitely return when visiting NJ.
