we stopped in after a final meal at the pickwick restaurant before it’s close december 7^th. we are not from the neighborhood any longer but love cupcakes so we stopped in for a few. it is very hard to find a really good cupcake. well, we were very happy to learn these cupcakes are very very good. we had the double chocolate, yellow cake with white icing which i have to say was the crème de la crème, carrot cake and devil’s food with white icing. the cupcakes were delicious and the mom and daughter who own the business, bake and greet you at the counter were delightful and very sweet and helpful. overall a great experience. the only reason i am not giving 5 stars is because the presentation is very basic. but the flavor — yum yum yum!!!

Love the sweetness of this place. Never gotten a bad cupcake never. Got a Six pack to go. Been getting cupcakes and cookies from here since discovering at Old Orchard mall. Sad to find out they are closing on December 24^th.

Prices are a bit high but that’s usually ok in most circumstances if you get high quality results right? Well unfortunately the cupcakes aren’t the highest of quality thus they are overpriced. Don’t get me wrong, I had a variety of cupcakes and the taste wasn’t bad at all. The cake part was moist and the frosting was light and fluffy. What stinks is that those alright cupcakes are about $ 3 each. That’s right, a single cupcake of normal size will set you back $ 3 so imagine buying 6 of them! Decorations on top weren’t very fancy either. The presentation is quite basic in fact. In my mind I definitely thought of better deals like buying a 24 cupcake pack at Mariano’s for $ 15. It’s neat that Mrs. A offers Filipino flavors (the place is Filipino owned) but that’s not enough for me to come back. Overall it’s not a bad place but you can get similar quality for cheaper elsewhere.

It was my first visit to Mrs. A’s Cupcakery and sadly, it disappointed. I purchased 5 cupcakes and got 1 cookie free. I was intrigued that they offered exotic flavors that are well known by Filipinos and purchased the Mango Shortcake, Ube, Buko Pandan, Caramel Apple and Birthday Cake. The Mango Shortcake had no detectable mango flavor which was a big let down. I have to say the other flavors were not impressive either. The Ube flavor was lacking and it felt I was eating a purple vanilla cupcake. The cake itself tasted dry and the frosting cloyingly sweet. They are a bit overpriced for cupcakes and I’m not likely to return, contrary to what the owner said. I’ve had better cupcakes in the city and for the price I paid $ 16+, I know I could have gotten better.

Liked the Philippine selection of flavors. Buko Pandan etc.
Came for my bfs birthday treat of German Chocolate. Sampled a few others (lemon)
They were decent but not as good as some I’ve had elsewhere.

These are the best treats around. The cupcakes are so tender and sweet. And the frissons are delicious. They have wonderful looking lamb cakes.

Went the first time with a groupon for cupcakes and bought a cake too. Cupcakes were «OK» but cake was great, so went again. They are pretty pricey for average tasting cupcakes, but it was for a party so I got them, but was disappointed this time they were horrible! Not one person liked them. Tried one last time for cookies, they were good, but cost a lot. The decorating is not very good overall. Done going there. Wouldn’t recommend… sad since I really was excited for a bakery close by.

I love a good cupcake. I have my favorite spots in the city and in the ‘Burbs, but I’m still game to check out new places and try their cuppycakes.
I love that Mrs. A’s is an independent shop. They also offer a lot of different flavors of cupcakes including some Filipino ones – Ube (purple yam) and Buco Pandan (young coconut). I didn’t venture to try those (personally I’m not a fan of Ube anything) but I did get an assortment to take home and share.
Mango, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, Chocolate and Vanilla.
The mango was my favorite. Great flavor and very true to the fruit.
The Salted Caramel was good too, but the icing was a bit too grainy.
The Red Velvet was disappointing and no where near the league of my favorite red velvet cupcake (from Foodielicious)
The Chocolate and Vanilla were pretty basic too.
I also didn’t find the cupcakes to be very pretty. They seemed like it was frosted in a hurry. I don’t mind paying a bit more for good cupcakes, but I didn’t find these worth the price in either flavor or presentation.
The owner was very sweet but seemed pre-​occupied. Everyone that came in was greeted, which was nice, but she went on to chat with every one of them, and unable to complete her task at hand. She was nice, but it just kind of annoyed me.
It’s a cute place, Unsure if I’d make the stop again.

Pricey and hit or miss. I tried them out with a groupon and the same deal as the previous comments that tax is on top of that.
Cupcakes are so so. Don’t expect fancy for the price. They are like something a good baker does in her kitchen. Not what you expect for the price they charge.
Some are decent. Strawberry and red velvet are good. Many of the chocolate were terrible very dry. It’s hit or miss when choosing the flavors. Disappointing when you realize it’s another miss when I try new flavors.
I have tried them several tines and been disappointed each time.

Have been wanting to try this place out for a while, but was highly disappointed!
Not sure how the cupcakes here are worth $ 3 each…
I think that I could make better cupcakes at home, and I will because I am never coming back to this overpriced «bakery.»
Frosting is super gritty and the cupcakes themselves are super bland.
In addition they cost $ 3 each!!! My hubby picked some up for us and ended up spending 15 bucks for 6 cupcakes!!! At that price, I thought that they would taste like magic happening in my mouth. Jewels and Whole Foods both have better cupcakes at better prices, just go there :)

I really want to like this place but the cupcakes that i had (mango, ube, red velvet, buko pandan) were not good at all. I will not go back again even if the cupcakes price will be 50% off.

The owner is obnoxious. I told her I had a Groupon, she sarcastically said «congratulations» and seemed really annoyed. She also told me the Groupon doesn’t cover tax?! So I had to pay $ 4 CASH on top of the Groupon.
Mediocre cupcakes, outrageous prices, she is probably pocketing the «tax» I had to pay extra and a horribly rude sarcastic owner. No thank you.
After she was rude to me several more times, she offered me a tiny cookie for free «because she is the owner and she can do that» and begged me to write a good review on Unilocal.
I would not recommend this place to a single person.

I wanted to like this place after filtering out the negative reviews and reading only the positive reviews on this place. I convinced myself that I wasn’t too picky about how I liked my cupcakes and that the negative reviews were people who had high standards on cupcakes. I purchased a groupon and was so excited to try this place out bc I love asian flavors such as ube, etc.
Having a sweet tooth, I am never really one to waste any type of sweets but I just could NOT finish some of the cupcakes. They were completely bland and the frostings (buttercream ones) were gritty and heavy. The mango cupcake that people wrote positive reviews on was my least favorite. I am not sure if maybe I went on an off day but I hope that the store improves their recipe.
I thought the cream cheese frosting on the red velvet & carrot cake ones were ok so my trip and groupon purchase were not at a total loss. I think my overall favorite was the carrot cake.
All in all, disappointing experience. I wanted to like and support this place and convinced my friend to come with me but unless we are desperate for some cupcakes (which I hope doesn’t really ever happen) we are not sure we will be back unless they make some drastic changes to their recipe.

My friends and I dropped by here for a quick dessert after eating at Cream of the Crêpe next door.
I wanted to love this place. The woman at the counter was friendly, perhaps a little overly so. She was really interested in what brought us there, so I assumed the place must have just opened or something (which I later learned it did not). She talked about how they (the family who owns the place) are Filipino, so there is kind of a Filipino flavor to many of their cupcakes. There are no signs in front of the rows of cupcakes, so she described what each of them was. I opted for a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting with coconut shavings.
About my cupcake: The frosting was pretty good, especially with the mixed in coconut. It wasn’t anything too special, though. The way it was decorated almost seemed like it had been frosted by hand with a knife/​spoon and not with a decorating bag. The cake part was also fine, but was slightly dry, which makes me think that this ‘cake was baked yesterday… or the day before. Overall, it reminded me of a better-​than-​average $ 1.50 cupcake that might be sold at a fundraiser.
While we ate our cupcakes, we overheard the workers talking really loudly. Since we were the only ones eating in there, the woman who rang us up kept trying to make conversation with us and interrupted our conversation a little. I get that she was trying to be friendly (and secure our future business, no doubt), but it was a little disruptive. There was an elderly couple who came in and the woman customer wanted to buy a cupcake for a friend, but her husband didn’t want one. «I don’t like sweets,» he said. She kept trying to playfully insist that he should really buy a cupcake or «at least a cookie.» I thought it was annoying at first and that she was really overstepping her bounds. But then she ended up giving him a cookie for free, which I thought was pretty neat. Mr. «I don’t like sweets» was very happy to accept it!
Overall, this place has a very mom and pop feel to it. This isn’t like one of those sterile, perfectly iced cupcakes you’ll find in major cities. The decorations are kind of haphazard, with tons of display cupcakes that I worry end up being sold. That would be kind of gross given all of that exposure to, say, a fly or something. Unless I had a Groupon or something, which i heard they have done, I probably would not come back here. I really like to support new/​local businesses, but given the cupcake I had, I am probably better off just making my own.
Tip: There is a $ 10 minimum on using a credit card. If you spend under $ 10, then you have to pay an extra fee for the credit card. I just paid in cash because I felt that over $ 3 for my cupcake was already too pricey.

While I wouldn’t say that this is my favorite cupcake in my area, I would say there is something sweet and genuine about this place. My only preference from cupcake places is a better carrier. I like when cupcakes don’t bump together or frosting doesn’t mix between them while carrying them home. The cupcakes weren’t bad, they were just ok and I say that because I usually enjoy perfect dainty cupcakes. :)
I will say that next time I venture in here ill try other things besides the cupcakes. Maybe some of their cute cookies.

Average cuopcakes, a little pricey even for Park Ridge. If I lived/​shopped exclusively in the ‘burbs I’d be impressed. The mango cupcake is really good though.
If you get the Groupon, be prepared to pay a $ 2 tax with your order.

There was nothing special about the cupcakes. They were not bad and better than a Jewel bakery but I have eaten cupcakes at a church bake sale that are as good. Bottom line, if you need cupcakes and don’t want to make them yourself, this is a good alternative. The owner told me that any cupcake store should be judged by their red velvet. I bought two, neither was anything special.
Bought a Groupon then had to pay a $ 2 surcharge when I arrived. If you want more money increase your Groupon price, not a big deal but annoying.
I saved the worst for last, maybe you should pull the curtain to the prep area. To the guy frosting a cupcake if your nose itches put the cupcake down before scratching your nose. Then wash your hands.

Typically if I happen to pass by a mom and pop cupcake shop, I can’t resist stopping in and checking it out. This day was no exception. In fact, I left with a half dozen cupcakes.
I don’t know what was my favorite part of Mrs. A’s Cupcakes — the over the top friendly and helpful customer service, the variety of flavors in cupcakes, or the delectable little cakes themselves.
The mother and daughter of the family owned business were more than happy to sit and talk with me about their business, their cupcakes, and even offer up advice on why some of my recent experiments turned out way to dry. After debating which flavors to purchase, I settled on strawberry/​/​strawberry, red velvet, strawberry lemonade, carrot cake, the purple yam, and mango/​/​mango. Each cupcake was light, fluffy, and extremely moist. The buttercream frosting was one of the creamiest and lightest I’ve ever had. The silky texture and not overly sweet flavor reminded me of whipped cream frosting. ((treats like these make me curse my failing pancreas!)) My favorites were the purple yam which tasted like an elevated vanilla cupcake and the strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. Incredible.
You can forget some of the larger chains or grocery stores that make cupcakes. They don’t stand a chance next to those of Mrs. A’s. Next time you need a dozen cupcakes whipped up, call Mrs. A’s — pure sugary happiness will ensue!

Simply the best cupcakes I’ve ever had! In fact, I’m enjoying one of my favorites right now — mango cupcakes. Just the right amount of sweetness and perfect buttercream frosting!
I only wish they were closer to Schaumburg so I could visit on a regular basis ;)
