Tech City

Do not recommend this place. I brought in a old IPad that had been dropped and didn’t turn on anymore. I gave it to the lady at the front desk and told her that it didn’t turn on, and that I wanted it fixed. They ended up «fixing «it for $ 20 rather quickly, which was good. When I went to the place to pick it up, I tried turning it on and I noticed that the icons on the screen had a weird pink tinge to them. I pointed this out to the front desk lady, and she said «Oh, you didnt tell us that – you just said you wanted to be able to turn it on!» Umm… yah… kinda thought it was implied that I wanted it fixed… into working order… with no weird pink color to the screen. On top of that, the lady tried to make me feel like it was my fault that I didn’t tell her that it had been dropped. Huh??? Isn’t it pretty common for IPads and IPhones to be dropped? So, if you go to this place (which I will never do again), make sure you tell them specifically want you want fixed on your device. Or they might try to play dumb and say that you never told them that…:(

I highly DO NOT recommend this place. I went to get my hard drive cloned and swapped. Their tech guy was completely rude on a Saturday morning when I called, and even hung up the phone on me, twice because he didn’t want to hear my explanation.
I’m still waiting for a call from them to return my old hard drive. It’s been 4 – 5 months now. I’m sure I’ll never receive that phone call…
But they will never get my business again… I will also be sure to spread the word to all my friends and family to not to bring their equipment here.

Luv Tech City. Very knowledgeable, great service and quick. They have helped with laptop, desktop, phones, etc. Thanks Tech City for saving us over and over again!

some people fall in love with their doctors — today I fell in love with my computer tech (just kidding) — but really — this guy is the smartest and fastest tech I ever had! if you don’t use this guy it will be the biggest mistake of your life. my computer is my life and this guy saved my life today. I’m keeping Chandi (the owner) for life!

Awful customer service, you’re better off going to a Best Buy, and that’s not saying much. They purposely sold an incompatible piece of hardware to my brother (when he was quite clear with his specs), then didn’t allow any returns. «Buyers Beware» indeed – buyers beware this place at all costs.

Not recommended.
This wasn’t the first time we were here. In the past they seemed to be trustworthy but recently we’ve become unsure. This last visit is definitely our last visit. We brought my laptop in to be checked due to some recent slowness on a few sites. They let us know that the hard drive was going bad and would need to be replaced, new operating system, transfer of information, plus other incidentals added up to over $ 300.00 in repair on a computer I paid $ 400 for just under 2 years ago. They were surprised when we declined the service and opted to pick up the computer and paid $ 45 for diagnosis. Got it home, started it up and behold — a black screen. Called Tech City because it was working when we dropped it off, just a little slow. The (condescending) associate was quick to say that the hard drive went bad but we could call back when the owner was in.
I don’t like to impose on people at work but had a bad feeling about this so I asked one of our IT techs if he would mind taking a quick look at it. I’m posting this review using my «went bad» hard drive laptop. Turns out — it took my IT professionals a little searching to find the misdirected connections but they were able to do so and everything is back to the way it was before we went to Tech City. In my opinion Tech City is relying on deceptive business practices and preying on the trust of their customers.

So far so good. I take my pc there for things I can do myself just don’t feel like doing. Did buy a laptop for my mom there too. A little pricier for sure but the warranty makes it worth it to me.

Fix my PS3 with out BS. Great price and fast. Nice people in Park Ridge.

Refurbished items are so expensive. You can get a new laptop at Wal-​Mart for the same price with everything in it.
Took me laptop in to get worked on and they promised it to me in 24 hours. The excel kept freezing up. Two days later still nothing and they said I had 138 viruses on it. I couldn’t believe it. Then he said, well, not viruses, but malware and spyware and stuff. Paid $ 45 for no service and my laptop is now in worse condition than when I took it there.

These guys are the best! Why would I spend $ 1000 on a new pc that will be outdated next year? Instead I go here every few years and spend a small fraction of that on a refurbished tower. I have been doing this for 10 years and have never had a problem. Everything is fresh and tweaked for max. performance.
I’ve had my current tower almost 3 years and I thought it may be time to upgrade due to this new design /​mfg. software I am using. Instead of pushing me to buy a new pc, they suggested a new and inexpensive graphics card and my pc is more than up to the task as they said it would be.
I’m sure their repair and service is also outstanding, but I wouldn’t know. I haven’t had any problems with a computer since I’ve been shopping here. Dig that!

Horrible customer service. Dropped off a flash drive to be repaired and get the info onto another disc or drive,. Girl who was doing her nails behind the desk said it would be done in 3 days. Great I thought. Well after 7 days, I tried to give them the benefit of doubt, I stopped in, don’t live too far. The tech person said that he forgot about this drive and would get right to it in a few days. OK, people forget, again I give them the benefit of doubt, (Mistake #2). I call about 4 days later, making sure to give them enough time. The nail girl answers tells me it was going to be approx. «$ 500 or something». I thought «or something», WTF? So, I go in and try to retreive my flash drive to go else where. The tech then tells me give me a few more days, and tells me he will hook up some wires to the ends and I’ll have the infomation from this flash and put it on another for you. He sounds very confident. I let him do it, (Mistake #3). Again I don’t hear from them for 7 days. I call and the tech, now he says that there is no way he can get the info from my flash drive onto another drive. I tell them I will be in tomorrow to pick up my flash drive. I drive there the next day to get my flash drive and guess what. They don’t have it. The tech decided to take it with him to where ever the heck he was going. Finally, after about a good three weeks, I have my flash back and it is taped up and looks like it has been through hell. This place is a toilet. Never again in my life.
Update 21 Sep 11: This idiot who looked at my flashdrive, ruined it and now no info will be able to be restored. He melted the chip when he decided to weld/​soder the prongs. Useless. I took my beat up flashdrive to a real computer specialist and this is the news I got. Au revoir flashdrive. R.I.P.

I just got a great deal on a desktop computer from here. I got a great system, with lots of cool added bonuses. It is much cheaper than the bigger, brand name stores. The customer reps are really nice and are great at explaining all that computer jargon!
