Unconventional leak, which turned out to be a defective seal on spa light fixture. Tim had a problem in that the repair part arrived, but had a defective system in keeping a tight seal. A bit of smart sense and silicone caulking, and a week to let it set up right, and the spa is back in business. The thing is, Tim did not give up after trying everything. He was going to make it work. thanks

Back yard pools did a amazing job on installing my new pool filter Which was covered by my home warranty. If you have a home warranty or not, I recommend this company in a heart beat. Like many of the reviews here, I was referred to Backyard Pools by our home warranty company. The customer service of the telephone was wonderful. However the communication with the actual technician has been awful.
I was told I would get a phone call when the technician would come by, when I was away from the house. I never got a phone call, and had to follow up a few days later. Apparently he stopped and made a diagnosis, but neglected to call, or leave a note.
I did get a call when he was supposed to stop by again another day, and he said he would call me to explain the issue.
A few days later, I still haven’t received a phone call, and I still don’t know what is going on with our pool heater.
Poor, poor communication with the customers.

I was referred to Backyard Pools by our American Home Shield warranty insurance. I was worried because we’d been referred to some really dodgy companies by home insurance companies in the past. We were pleasantly surprised to find this company easy to schedule with, they came out within two days, basically rebuilt our pool filter and it only cost the $ 75 co-​pay. Very pleased.

Every small (and large) company should spend some time with Jack to see how he runs his company.
He understands the key of success: respect your client’s time and money, and make them feel special and not like they are just another issue you need to address.
He also knows how to surrender himself with a great team: Liana is incredible in kindness and efficiency. Jimmy is very professional and knowledgable.
To summarize in one word: Jack and his team CARE about what they do. Bottom line.
Not that I am looking forward to work with them again because it would mean that I have issues with my pool, but if I ever need some work done, they are the company I will call.

Called my Ins to file a claim @ 1000 am and at 100 pm they called me from backyard pools they were 150 feet away !! It seems my neighbors were having service and New pumps !! How can we go wrong if my neighborhood uses them !!!

I recently purchased a home with seller provided home insurance. It gave me confidence that anything missed during the inspection wouldn’t be a headache. This was far from true. The inspector noted some items with the spa. There were some leaks, one over the spa motor, but the spa was sound and the water was clean. After moving in and using the equipment. I couldn’t get the blower to work and really had no understanding of how any of it was supposed to work. I called AHS and they told me it would be $ 75 to have someone come out, inspect and diagnose any issues. That was on August 12^th.
August 13^th: I get a call from LeAnn. She was very helpful and has great customer service. She told me Tim would be available later in the day and if I was available. I was happy things were moving so quick. I left work early to wait for Tim but he was a no show. No phone call either.
August 14^th: In the morning LeAnn called me to apologize on Tim’s behalf. She told me that he got hung up a on a job and left late. She really has great customer service. I would give her 5 stars. She said Tim would be back in my area, by the end of the day, and assured me he would show up. Later that day Tim shows up and does a full diagnosis on my equipment. Tim disassembled the D.E. filter, removed the grids and discovered that all were new but one. He also found corrosion in the tank and a long list of other things. It was all very bad news and worse than expected. He called me and told me he will prepare a report for AHS and send me copy. Right off the bat it looks like a lot of it won’t be covered by the insurance. He said he turned off the breakers for the filter pump since he suspects it might overheat. He told me to dump chlorine in the pool every few days too since the filter is in pieces and the pump is disconnected. O.k. fine, a few days should be fine to hear results…
August 26^th: Almost two weeks go by… nothing, no calls, emails or updates. I call in to see where the process is. I also found a receipt from the previous homeowner that showed work done on the system a few months ago. I didn’t know if it helped but any information is better than nothing. LeAnn was once again very helpful and gave me Tim’s manager’s number, Jack, to see if he would like a copy of the receipt I found. I contacted him, he wanted to see it so I quickly texted an image of it.
August 27^th: Jack wants to come out and inspect the system. He calls me at 11:43 am asking if I am available at 12 pm. I appreciate the quick response but I don’t work close to home. I call my Dad and he can be out at my house around 3 – 3:30. I relay that to Jack and he says he won’t be in my area that long and it won’t work out. That is fine let’s plan for another day next week. He said he will touch base with me early next week to schedule something. Later in the day at 2:59 pm he texts me and says he can be at my house at 3:15 pm and if I am available. Of course I couldn’t, my Dad was originally going to be there but that was originally too late. My time isn’t being respected. My spa problem was a problem for them. I called AHS (very long phone call) and asked to cancel the insurance policy before my initial 30 days. This way I would get a full refund of $ 660. I figured I would just put this towards new equipment.
Monday came and no call from Jack. I haven’t heard anything from him –even to this day. I wouldn’t expect it since I no longer have AHS insurance. But when was someone going to followup on my standing water? Why would experts drop this problem in a homeowner’s hands? While this process was being dragged out my spa’s water was turning into a health hazard. I didn’t know how much chlorine to add, I can’t balance this water, how do you keep a spa clean with no filter? Especially since Tim purged the D.E. into my spa. It was a bigger mess than I started with. I also paid $ 75 for this hassle and received no report. I can’t even see exactly why the heater doesn’t work. Which wire was chewed? How did I get $ 75 worth of diagnostic work?
To cut my losses I went to YouTube, assembled the grids, added D.E. and vacuumed my spa. The water is still over-​chlorinated –but it is clear. I also purchased a new cartridge filtering system and pump. I learned way too much about spas this past month. But because of my experience with Backyard Pools I had to.
It is a shame I had this experience. I really tried to separate them from my feelings towards AHS. I will never carry this insurance again. It isn’t worth the time their process takes. My peace of mind is worth more than the cost of a $ 280 filter system. I really wished Backyard Pools would have lived up to their great reviews. They could have spared me from many headaches with spa repair. They failed me.

Mike came by this time to fix a broken motor in my pool equipment.
He was so knowledgeable and efficient. The last time they came to my home they fixed a different pool problem quickly and permanently. All of the technicians are great. Mike is fantastic.
Liana helped make the appointment and managed the visit over the phone. She was extremely helpful. They even told me about pool pump rebates from DWP. I highly recommend them!

So we’re first time pool owners and inherited a large pool with the house we just bought. Within days after we took possession of the house, the pool was cloudy and green and out of control. Jack from Backyard Pools came out within hours of our call and then returned the very next day with the absolutely necessary replacement equipment.
He installed it that evening and the returned at least 6 times to get it calibrated for our pool. Did I mention the evening he came back to install the filter was July 3^rd? He didn’t leave until the job was done (it was getting dark and I know he had a family event going on) and he didn’t stop coming back to our house until the situation was «all clear.»
Jack and the team are all great. In a business that has sometimes good people with limited time and capability to do even mediocre or decent work and with some less than totally credible folks, Backyard Pools stands out as exceptional and I am now a loyal customer (with a bright, clear, blue pool) for all of my needs.

Another visit from Backyard Pools but with Jimmy. He came and installed a new energy efficient pump, fixed my jets, and spoke with me over the phone and texted me back when I had questions. He was very professional and friendly and I would recommend him to anyone! I totally trust this company to take care of all my pool needs — they are AWESOME!!!

I am so happy with this company. I was lucky enough to find them through my AHS. They have done such a great job and I would highly recommend them. They have gone above and beyond to make sure I am taken care of.

Sam from Backyard Pools saved the Day! Sam was called from «Old Republic» to help us out.
Extremely professional and quick. Sam came on a short notice. Diagnosed the problem. He taught my son and I how to change the filter, which is quite a task. As we are new to pools and want to maintain ourselves, he took the time to teach us how to perform this task. He was patient and ensured we understood the rational for every step! In addition, he fixed the saline machine, now we have a saline pool!
He also gave us a crash course on how to maintain our pool and even some supplies to maintain our pool!
In this day and age, it is a rare breed who goes above and beyond the call of duty and Sam from Backyard Pools did just that.

I was referred to this place by my homeowners insurance. Sometimes my insurance company refers me to good service providers and sometimes they refer me to a terrible service providers.
Backyard pools is one of the best service providers I have ever encountered, and I have been a homeowner for a very long time. The lady that runs the office is named Liana and she is nothing short of fantastic. She is very knowledgeable, fun to talk to, and will talk with you as long as you want to talk with her about your pool problem.
Likewise, the guy who came out to do a significant sized job on my pool pump system, Sam, was an absolute delight and also an absolute expert on what he was doing. There is some sort of a manager/​owner named Jack, who I only dealt with on the telephone, but he was very easy to work with. He speaks in simple declarative sentences, and he listens carefully to whatever question you ask him and he answers whatever question you ask him.
These are very honest, very ethical, very skillful people. And I say that as a person who, overall, is rather critical of service providers.

Sooooo. I called my home warranty company. They made an appointment for me with Backyard Pools. I called Backyard Pools to confirm with Lianna. Jack showed up on time and fixed my pool pump. He did not try to sell me anything more than what I needed. My filter is working perfectly. I paid Jack the deductible. It’s nice to do business the way business should be done. Thank you.
Five days later…
Wouldn’t you know it… the pump Backyard Pools installed was defective. I called them, rescheduled, they brought a new pump the next day, installed it and now all is well! Too bad they don’t do automotive, dry-​cleaning, dentistry, house painting, travel or a million other things. They would probably be great at those things as well. Thank you to Lianna, Jack and now Sam.

Backyard Pools were assigned to me by First American home warranty, but unlike some other repair guys I’ve been assigned, I liked Backyard enough to have them also do other non-​warranty improvements on my pool and spa system. Jack has been really responsive whenever I’ve had any issues with my old equipment, and Sam goes the extra mile to teach me how to do maintain the system myself. Knowledgable and pleasant dudes.

We had a leak around our pool equipment, we went through our home owners insurance and they sent out Backyard Pools. I am so grateful that they did. Sam, the technician, did a great job at repairing the problem and explaining everything to me. He was very knowledgable. And as a bonus he was sweet to our rambunctious puppy :) It did take 2 trips out to fix the problem (we had two separate leaking parts), but that was ok with us since they were professional about the situation.
Liana who scheduled the appointments was polite and friendly. She followed up promptly and was easy to get a hold of.
I won’t hesitate to call them again if we have a problem with our pool or spa.

Having recently purchased a home that came with a hot tub in pretty rough shape, I called in the services of the folks at Backyard Pools. Though at the time my residence was outside of their regular coverage area Jack was gracious enough to come all the way out to make a diagnoses, arrived right on schedule and quickly determined the various issues with my unit. Though he could have recommended several very expensive options, pleasantly he recommended the most affordable arrangment to get things back up and running.
Sam came out a few days later to do the work and again arrived right on time and very quickly made the repairs and also went above the call of duty by identifying & replacing the gas line running to the heater which posed a potential safety hazard. In addition Sam also took the time to patiently run me through the usage of the system as well as answering my questions as to how to best maintain the water, etc.
About a week later the water pump which originally came with unit and which Jack thought might still have some life left in it and therefore left as is, decided not to start, so I gave Backyard Pools another call. After speaking with Jack and texting him a couple of snap shots of the faulty pump, they determined the best course of action was replacing it since it was so old parts were no longer available. Since our house came with a home warranty plan, Liana recommended I schedule the service through the plan. After jumping through some hoops with the home warranty folks — who tried to assign the work to another vendor — Liana after several calls ironed out the difficulty and got the work order scheduled. Thanks Liana! Sam then came out immediately the next day and replaced the water pump with a much better & quieter unit. While he was at it, Sam again went out of his way by also improving the water flow by simplifying the piping between the pump, spa and filter and thus reduced an excessive water pressure issue that was left by the original owners. Thanks Sam! To top it off, I expected the new pump to not be covered by the home warranty, but Sam, Liana and Jack were able to work it so the full costs of the unit and repairs fell under the plan, thus saving me a ton of $$$.
My hot tub is working like a charm now and I can’t be happier with the work done by Sam and the excellent service of Jack & Liana. Thanks so much guys! I’ll be using you for all my future needs. To anyone else out there I highly recommend these folks — honest, dependable, top quality work and fast!

Great! I had a spa heater on the fritz– called them and they got back to me right away. Said they could have someone over the next day (a Saturday)– Jack called before coming, and arrived promptly. He quickly diagnosed the problem, and made a repair, rather than trying to sell me a new heater. Nice, professional. The repair was done for the price of the service call ($ 85). Highly recommend!

Sam and his son Johnny came over to repair my damaged pool pump this morning. To sum up the experience, it’s just simply the best professional service that one could ask for, far and beyond exceeding all expectations. Sam was very informative, demonstrated great expertise in many different areas, and he took the time to show me how everything worked step by step, not to mention all the excellent advice and general pool maintenance tips that I learned from talking with him today. So without a doubt, I would very highly recommend Sam and Backyard Pools for any pool service needs. The next time I need reinforcements to help me with the pool, or if my family and friends asked for a referral, I will certainly pick up the phone and call Sam and Backyard Pools!
(By the way, I’d like to also thank Leanna for her wonderful help booking the appointments for me earlier. You guys are the best!)

Jack has been great to work with! When our jacuzzi decided to drain itself (and blow a gasket), American Home Shield sent Backyard Pools to save the day. He came out the first time but AHS didn’t tell him that our jacuzzi was empty, so we refilled it and he stopped by a few days later while we were at work. He re-​sealed the top thingy (sorry, I have no ideas how jacuzzi’s work so you’ve gotta deal with my lack of vocabulary here) and made sure everything functioned correctly.
Side note: before our jacuzzi blew the gasket and drained itself, we were having problems getting the temperature above 70 degrees. I failed to mention the heating issue in my ticket with AHS, and even though he wasn’t supposed to check for anything other than what was on the order, Jack took a quick peek for us and said everything was okay with the heater. Everything was NOT okay with the heater before he showed up, but magically, after he left, the heater started working! =)
My husband and I were able to enjoy our jacuzzi for the first time and it was great! Thanks for your help Jack.
