BetterGrow Hydro is an amazing gardening center with locations in the heart of Pasadena, CA and Los Angeles, CA that specializes in hydroponics, organics, and indoor growing. We offer the largest selection of indoor growing supplies and equipment in Southern California. Many stores sell grow lights & supplies, but here at BetterGrow we have the knowledge and expertise to help ensure that your growing experience is a successful one. That knowledge and expertise comes from the fact that we have been involved in hydroponics since the mid-80’s, and that we are the only store in the country that founded and still owns and operates a successful commercial hydroponic farm that utilizes the Nutrient Film Technique to produce a wide variety of the highest quality lettuce and herbs in Southern California. Living Lettuce Farms, founded in 1995, caters to L.A.‘s finest restaurants, caterers and farmers’ markets. WE ARE EXPERTS IN GROWING, both in hydroponics & soil, indoor & outdoor.

BetterGrow Hydro, Inc. was co-​founded in 2000 by David Goldman. With over 25 years of hydroponic and indoor gardening experience, we opened up our hydroponic farm over 10 years ago not as a side business, but as our only means of support. While most small farms fail within the first 2 years, ours continues to run strong. That’s because we’re experts at what we do! The bottom line: At BGH, we don’t just sell products, we give our customers what they need to be successful growers themselves. And that’s priceless.

In addition to his daily roles at BGH and Living Lettuce Farms, David also consults on many commercial hydroponic projects. Some of these projects include the custom hydro growing chambers located in the SBE Hotel in Beverly Hills, a rooftop garden in a medical building in downtown Los Angeles (complete with hydroponic grass and over 40 custom hydroponic planters lining the perimeter of the roof), to name just a couple.

A Canadian, online customer here — BetterGrow Hydro workers were, kind, attentive, and communicative over email during the transaction process. What really stood out to me, however, was the quality of of packing. BG Hydro is a take your money and run type of operation. They took my order, then came back with backordered parts. The backorder lasts long enough that you can’t dispute the charges, so when they don’t ship you the things you ordered, you’re just out of luck. Called and tried to get it resolved, and the company said they didn’t have to ship the items I already paid for. Simply put, they’re crooks. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!

These guys are awesome! If you look close enough in all the nooks and crannies, you’ll notice they’ve packed everything you would need for most any size setup. I needed a product line that they no longer carried, but I was very happy when they presented me with there only sample kit of the line direct from the manufacturer! And for free!

I’m not a hydroponic gardener. In fact, 2013 is the first year I had any remote success at gardening and it was still at the cost of a lot of plants who died to make me a better gardener, and I’m still at the newbie basil, rosemary, spider plants, and golden pothos level. However, that minute level of success still gave me the urge to plant some magnificent cherry tomatoes in 2014. If I don’t succeed I still want to die trying! (Or have my plants die trying for me!)
Since I can only have 5 gallon tomato containers, I figure hydroponic is probably my best shot, so I came to this store to do some research today.
The person that helped me was friendly and not pushy and told me all the cheapy options I can use to try hydroponics for a year and see how I like it. What I found out in addition to that is they also sell organic fertilizers for regular potted plants! Amazing right? The prices in this store are super competitive with the prices I saw online too.
I’m still not entirely certain I’m going to try hydroponics in 2014, but if I do, I sure know where I’m getting the supplies. Also, whatever happens with my tomato adventure, I know I’ll be getting the fertilizers from this store in the future.

BGH (Heather) did follow up with me and provided what I asked in the get go. Both Heather and I agreed that their customer service needs some attention and I shouldn’t have had to go through what i did just to get a response from them.
But Heather was awesome and handled my complaint with the utmost urgency and made good on her word. For that I give her and BGH a thumbs up, I just wish I didn’t have to go this route. But I believe this issue will shed some light on their customer service practices and make everything better in the long run.
As far as I am concerned this matter is handled. I will give BGH another shot down the road.
I will move my rating from a 1 Star to 3 Stars for how Heather handled this situation. Hopefully they resolve their Customer Service issues…

Another on of my Favorite Hydro shops. They have a well stocked inventory and the staff is super cool. They have Web Wednesdays which lets you purchase in store at internet prices. They even carry Canna… Canna is tough to find at stores because Canna has tougher distribution requirements. They brew their own teas which I hear are phenomenal. I talk to Nick a lot and he has a gang of knowledge because he tests a lot of their products personally. They’ve suggested a few products that actually saved me money and worked better… Thanks Guys!

Store carries great selection of supplies, problem is how much the price fluctuates each time I shop here. I’m constantly haggling to get a competitive price. The price starts out so high that even when they give you a break, the cost is still above average. I always walk away from here feeling like BGH got over on me again.

This hydroponic store carries most everything you can think of. Knowledgable staff. The store itself is cramped quarters. Too much product for such little store space. I had alot of questions answered by the guys behind the counter. It’s nice to see someone that actually knows what they’re talking about at a specialty store. I can’t tell you what kind of retards they hire at Armstrong gardeinig sometimes. Ask for the ona filters if you have to divert odors from growing onions etc. The only odd thing is they have plants growing in the store and they didn’t look too healthy. They had bug damage and were all discoloring so I dunno about that one.

My husband is a gardening freak. A freak. Well, if you know me, then you know why he’s a freak. But that’s beside the point. My man grows just about anything. His thumb is purple, which is better than green. His passion has been cacti and succulents for years. And he manages to grow a lot of his rare and eclectic collection from seed. (Not an easy thing to do.) Recently he learned about cacti faring well from hydroponics.
So today while toddling about doing chores, hubby says he wants to stop by the hydro store. Been eyeballing it for a while. I was sort of on the aversion side of this place thinking the usual nefarious stuff I think –if not for any other reason than my own nefarious indulgences. (Call me Mrs. Kettle!)
But I was more than pleasantly surprised by this place. We were greeted with outstanding, not pushy, but welcoming customer service. Service that was knowledgeable about plants, horticulture, hydroponics all the way around, the politics of organic and more.
Not only that, Marco took his time with us, we were there probably an hour or so before even making a small purchase (book). What struck me was a passion for what they do at this store. This isn’t a hydro-​gonna-​grow-​some-​greenage-​hippy-​dippy joint by any means. (Although we all know the appreciation for hydro yields with our brothers and sistahs who grow some funk of their own… hey, pass that over here!)
It’s gardening for grown ups. It’s love of self-​sufficiency. It’s appreciation for plants, the planet, good nutrition, balance in politics… and some super friendly conversation too.
I think I love this place (insert stupid Partridge Family song here) and know my husband will be spending a lot of time and moolah at the hydro store.

Good place to get all your growing equipment. I only hat driving there because the exit ramp is always full with big rigs. They have everything you need for indoor growing and outdoor growing. They also have grow tents that are top rated, I can speak from experience because I own one. I do not grow hydroponically but they have a variety of hydroponic systems. Staff Is very knowledgeable and has been a great help setting up my first indoor grow room. So I would definitely recommend this place, they have anything a beginner grower and commercial grower will need.

Note: This is a review for the Better Grow Hydro online store only, as I’ve never visited the physical location.
I think they have a pretty good selection of gardening products, but the customer service leaves something to be desired. First of all, they have the worst credit card policy ever. If you want to ship your order to an alternate address (i.e. not your billing address), BGH requires you to call your credit card company and add this alternate address on your card. They explained to me that this was an «extra security measure.» Ok, so I complied even though I’ve never had an issue with this before when shopping online… Then I ended up playing phone tag with a customer service rep and after no one returned my calls or email, I resorted to the «online live chat» option to speak with someone who might be able to update me on the status of my order. This rep insisted that I had to give her my credit card company’s number so that she could «verify that the address change was made.“Why is that even necessary? I already confirmed it, so she shouldn’t have to. At this point, I just cancelled my order because it was almost 2 weeks after I first placed the order and I still had to jump hoops to get them to process it. Unbelievable.
