Color Me Mine

The main reason I hadn’t been to a Color Me Mine before is because I thought it would be really expensive. Surprisingly, it’s not bad. There’s a $ 10 studio fee and then you just pay for whatever you choose to paint. Everything is still marked up, but there are many cheaper pieces to work with. The weekends get crazy (with kids!) and are always booked out. On a weekday, it’s super empty and it’s pretty fun to sit for a bit and be creative, even if you’re not typically a very creative person. I’d definitely recommend this as a fun activity for kids or a fun thing to do with friends.

Brought my daughter here for our little date nights! Great selection of items to paint and awesome selection of colors of paints and brushes and fun stuff! Just a little pricey but it’s fun!

My friend and I decided to do some last minute crafting before Christmas and we decided on a whim to go to Color Me Mine in Pasadena. we went on a Wednesday an brought cans for the food bank and we got free lab fees for the day! The items they have to paint are pretty cool. The staff were so nice and helpful. We had a blast painting our designs. We will be back to paint more soon.

I came here for some fun quality time with a good friend and two of her daughters (the third daughter was too young for this activity). She made the reservation in advance, so I am not really sure how all that works. The place was completely full when we were there, and walk-​ins were being turned away, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Located in Old Town Pasadena, my go-​to parking place is the 90-​min-​free public parking lot diagonally across the street. In this case, I was dropped off, which turned out to be a great decision since we were here for 5.5 hours. The painting process takes a long time, so take that into consideration!
How this place works is that you walk around the store and pick whatever object you want to paint. They offer a large variety of items – mugs, plates, bowls, piggy banks, statues, planters, etc. Each item has its own price tag, and the larger items are of course more expensive. When we went they were doing a special where you would get $ 2 off for each canned good that you brought (for them to donate) and if you spent over $ 20 then they would throw in a free «resolution» mug (I went on NYE last year). Once you have your item picked out, then it is time to paint it. This is the messy time-​consuming portion. They do offer a lot of paint, but you have to share with the other customers in the store. There are several tables set up within the two adjoining rooms so that they can accomodate as many groups as possible. There is a small bathroom where you can wash your hands, and the staff will help with washing brushes and providing clean supplies. Once the painting is done, you leave it with them to fire in their kiln. I don’t recall what their fastest available time is but we picked up our items about a week later. And they were beautiful!
This was a really fun experience and I am glad I got to finally try this place out. The staff here are great and really helpful. Be ready to spend a LOT of time here and get messy if you come with kids, but it will be a lot of fun! I think it would be fun to do with a group of adults too… and probably a little faster ;)

Came Here For My Birthday Earlier This Year (June). I Had So Much Fun! I Go To PaintNiteLA, Etc. So It Wasn’t My First Time With A Paintbrush Or Anything Lol But It Was A First Painting Something Already Structured (In My Case A Rabbit). I Can’t Wait To Go Back

Its a fun place for dates, catch up, and much more. The problem is that its $ 10 for ENTRANCE FEE. that ONLY includes the TOOLS and PAINT. Its EXTRA for the ceramics, DEPENDING ON WHICH YOU PICK. Its definately nice place to take your date though, not saving on cash though. They ship the ceramics for $ 20 but if you come back and get it, it is Free.

Staff is very friendly, love Chelsea she always had a smile on her face. She explained everything and was willing to go the extra mile if needed. Definitely a nice place to spend with your kids or your girlfriends. Think it’s a good place for a first date also. Works as an ice breaker lol. Will return again!!!

Went here with my girl friend on a Sunday afternoon. We had so much fun! Time flies by very fast here. Everyone who works here are very helpful and friendly. We will come back!

I went to Color Me Mine for a meeting/​painting party and it was so much fun! The staff were very helpful and attentive to our group. It was very relaxing to paint with friends and be creative together! Great for groups and parties.

I used to do this type of stuff as a child in Florida. Mom would take us to the local ceramic store in the mall. Back then you had to sand down and clean up the ceramics. Now you just paint and then pick it up in a week after it’s been fired in the kiln. I think it’s best for kids who already love painting and drawing. Also seemed like a good date spot, as there were young couples there painting and chatting. Prices are a tad high to start, but large pieces are affordable.
Staff is friendly and attentive. You can park in the lot down the block, as Old Town Pasadena parking sucks.
I could go here once a month and have fun. However, my six year old doesn’t like painting or drawing except for Pollock type splatter painting. He had to choose the largest ceramic cupcake in the place. Of course, he got bored after doing one coat on the top (you have to do three coats at least to get true color). So it turned into a bit of a nightmare for me. If it’s your first time, make sure the kid chooses a smaller item. Otherwise you end up painting it for them.
Still, I liked it, and enjoyed making a Satanic cross out of their cross ceramic. I’m sure everyone thought I was nuts. Which I am.

Fun place to take your little ones! I took two of my little cousins here and they had a blast! I came on a Tuesday when they had half off their studio fee. I was kind of disappointed from their selection of ceramics. They didn’t have the unicorn from Despicable Me. I went to check out the one in Chino Hills and they had a huge variety!
So once you choose your ceramic, you then choose what colors you’d like to start off with, because the palette only holds five colors max. Other than that, you can ask for more palettes and use as much colors you’d like! They have stencils and markers you can use on your ceramic! They also have a variety of paint brushes! After you’ve finished painting it takes a week to finish glazing and adding some finishing touches!
There’s a parking lot that has 90 minutes free, but it’ll definitely take longer than 90 min.
Definitely a fun place to be, just a little pricey. Staff was very attentive, she was always refilling/​replacing our water!

Fun place to de-​stress and forget about reality.
Its easy and fun. Okay, I sat there for thirty minutes planning my piece but after that it was relaxing. You pay for studio time and the piece. You can color anything from a plate to a coffee mug to car figurines. It takes a week for it to be ready but they call you when its done.
You can use as many colors as you want, but don’t be wasteful. You could be there for hours, they don’t care. If you can’t come up with your own idea, you can go online and google ideas. There are some tools in the drawers you can use. For example, stencils, sponges or stamps.
I like it a little more than paint nite because you can go in whenever you want. For one, they give you more than two paint brushes. They have a lot of brushes to use from tiny to broad. Second, they refresh your water so its easy to clean your brushes and it doesn’t mess up your colors. Also, you can get creative and venture off into your own ideas. Plus there is a lot of space and you can bring in your own food or drinks. Across the street is an asian coffee shop with a variety of drinks and pastries. I would stop there for a drink before your paint session.
I put a happy face on the bottom of my jewelry box and it was smudged when it was cooked. I guess try not to get fancy with the bottom because the rack might mess it up when it gets cooked. No one looks at the bottom anyway.
Good experience. Its a little pricy but if you have some time to kill and money to spare, then its a good place to spend it. Have fun! Dont try to one up the four year old picaso at the next table, it will only lead to a paint fight ;-p

Horrible location, smack dab in the middle of Old Town Pasadena. I love Color Me Mine, but I don’t like to pay for parking.

It was my first time at color me mine. Such a fun experience. Only thing is that I wish they had been a little more attentive. There were kids running around and no one did anything to call attention to that. Eventually one of the kids running around fell and hurt herself. Ouch!

Man, what a great place to make you feel like you’re a kid again, too bad this is my first time doing this!
First and foremost, I would strongly suggest making a reservation here, we tried to walk in before and they said that we’d have to come back because of the amount of people there. (not all the tables were full but they do spend a lot of time helping you out and there’s always some kind of party in the back).
Basically, you sit down and they explain the procedure: go pick out your item, then fill out this form, and then begin the painting process.
After all the fun decorating occurs and you’re ready to leave, just know that it does take a full week for them to put it in the kiln and make it all pretty and glassy looking. I believe the Pasadena location does a special where the paint fee is $ 1, first Friday of each month i think? Normally it’s about 10 – 11 bucks per person, so pretty good savings there.

Thank you for your presence at this year’s Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Wiggle Waggle Walk. The free paw prints on tiles and bowls were such a special treat and something that will be cherished in our pup’s forever home.
The pick up process was very well organized and after receiving an email that the tile was all fired up and glazed, was happily greeted by friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back to make my own artistic mark for the upcoming holiday gifting season.

If this is your first time at Color Me Mine, this is how it works.
1^st: Pick a ceramic piece to paint: Prices are located on the bottom of each piece. A mug is about $ 18 – 22 whereas bigger and more intricate ceramic pieces can be up to $ 40 – 50
2^nd: Figure out your design: They have stencils, stamps, masking tape, etc… You can either use these or you can free hand and design your piece on your own. Pencil on what you’d like and the pencil markings will completely burn off after they glaze put it in the kiln. So no worries if you can’t erase your marks off. I was actually disappointed by the selection of stencils and stamps they had at this particular location compared to locations I have been to prior.
3^rd: Pick your colors: Anything you don’t paint over will still get glazed, so you can tape over it to omit a certain area.
4^th: Paint: Paint from light to dark. You can always wash it off if you mess up. Paint three layers on to get the solid look, or it will come out of the kiln looking transparent.
Overall, I had a lovely experience with my friend here. I would just like to mention that there was only ONE GIRL (out of three) who I felt was truly working. Maddy was very helpful to us and the other customers. I can’t help but feel she was overwhelmed because her two other coworkers were chatting away in the back while she was getting paints, explaining the process to first time customers and blow drying the art between layers of paints. I hope her manager reads this and awards her for her hard work!

I love this place! I’m not the most artistic person, but what was great about this place was that I was able to find a cute owl piece and color in the face and body (no need to be creative to color)!! Some of my more artistic friends painted their own picture on mugs and plates. There are definitely regulars who come often because of how pro they are and don’t need assistance.
Seating: this place was not the biggest. There were maybe 5 tables that seat 3 people and a room for a party of 10. So if you have a small birthday party that you want to host I’d definitely recommend this place. I know where I’m going for my bachelorette party!! I was there with a group of 9 people and we already occupied 3 tables. Luckily we got there at 2 pm because people without reservations started to come near 4pm-​ish and they were told to come back because of the lack of seating.
Service: 5 stars for service! They made sure we understood how the colors would come out after our pieces were baked and gave us clear and precise instructions. They also replaced our brush washers whenever the water became too cloudy. I even saw one of the staff members teach a little girl how to do a tie dye color on her plate! It was pretty neat!
Parking: unfortunately there’s no parking lot but Street parking for $ 2 in the meter was not bad at all.
Price: smaller pieces of ceramic came out to be around $ 10+ whereas the med-​large pieces were 20+. There’s also an extra $ 10 service charge (im guessing to pay for the paint used, gas used for the baking of our product, and etc.)
I WILL DEFINITELY COME BACK!

I stopped by for their first Friday special which includes a late closing (midnight), live music, $ 1 studio fees, and byob.

Allison was amazing. She took time to actually break down things for us and made herself available if we needed anything. That little bit of effort from her would make me come again.
Location
This is the first Color Me Mine that I’ve been to so I don’t have anything to really compare it to. However, I did feel like it was a bit cramped. The tables were close together and even right next to the shelving that carries the ceramic pieces. Having the ceramic pieces so close to the tables made it really hard to look at the product offering without getting in the way of other guests.

From what I saw was that studio fees are about $ 7 but if you go on the first Friday of a month they’re a $ 1.
Overall
I’d go again, especially if it’s the first Friday of the month. Drinking, painting, listening to soothing music, saving some money– all make for a great night.
