This owner is no longer operating as Edie’s. It is now Ginger market. It is worth a trip now!

I, Ragnar Giantsbane, weep at the thought of Eddie’s Market going out of business. It’s small miniature markets like these that give communities their local flavor. It pains my heart to see the shelves empty, the drink selection dwindling, and the for lease sign taped to the window. I like this place because they have an uncommon drink selection(Stewart’s, Nantucket Nectar, etc.), and to see the mothers hastening back and forth ferrying meals to their kids playing in the park across the street. I, Ragnar Giantsbane, recommend that you experience this place one last time before black-winged night claims it. I, Ragnar Giantsbane, shall think of days long past and dream that a new store, worthy of Eddie’s mantle, will inherit this location. Until then, I will sacrifice eight goats, rip the hairs from my beard in lamentation, and compose an elegy that even the God’s will envy.

I went in here looking to get a sandwich, and was instantly filled with disappointment when I saw the menu… They have swiss, ok… That’s cool — wait, step the fuck back, thats the ONLY cheese they have?! This place gets only 1 star for having the pushy service I would expect in China Town, a very limited selection of… Well, everything, and being much more expensive than it should be. A poor boy deluxe costs about $ 3.50 in the Bay Area with everything, and not only gets you more, but it also gets you much a much better product with fresher ingredients. Delis might be a bit more scarce down here, but when Ralph’s has you beat, it’s time to throw in the towel.

Hmmm… where to start? The new owners significantly improved the purpose of this small market/food place. They are awesome people and very welcoming. Most importantly, they make the most freaking delicious chicken Teriyaki and rice with a side of a Korean noodle that I cannot get enough of. I like to pay compliments where they are due and this place deserves it 5Xs fold. I get my lunch here at least 3 times a week. Their crab salad is not to be missed. I like the new owners; they truly made themselves part of the neighborhood and so happy they are here. Is it lunch time yet?

I LOVETHISPLACE. Their sandwiches are great. It’s a clean place, friendly service. The joint may not look like much, but it’s very tasty, with a great selection.

I found this cute little market across the street from Grant Park. I went there for something to drink but realized they are not only a market but they have sandwiches and Teriyaki and rice too. There are a few seats inside or you can walk across the street and sit at picnic bench across the street and watch the kids play.

Eddie’s Market is back in business again(third operators?) with an expanded menu. They still have some of the old sandwiches(Buffalo Breath — roast beef, horseradish, sour cream etc from the first incarnation) but now offer hamburgers(okay) and teriyaki plates(beef is great). The new operators(Korean?) are very nice and friendly. Sandwiches made to order. I haven’t tried breakfast yet. Support local independent businesses and give them a try. Previous lessees(referred to in first review?) won’t transfer alcohol license. Orders can be phoned in. 217 S Michigan Ave 6267952447 9 am to 8 pm(6 pm in winter)

[Update: This place is out of business.] Located across from a park in a residential neighborhood, you’d never notice this sandwich shop unless you slept in the park or got lost. Luckily, you probably have no need for it. My co-workers and I use to call this place the«Default Deli» because it was the closest sandwich shop to our office. One by one everyone got tired of it and defectors formed a «Subway Train» opting to walk a few extra blocks to the local Subway or Il Capo. There’s nothing especially wrong with it but they just seemed annoyed with extraordinary requests(like a different bread). My biggest pet peeve was watching the sandwich artist work inefficiently, contorting his body every time he needed something. Tip to Eddie: put all the ingredients on or above one side of the counter so that you can work without twisting around. You’re gonna hurt your back! I actually don’t think it’s Eddie’s anymore, but the new owner kept the name and added a sub-name, something like«Roma Italian Market».
