Gracie Barra Pasadena was established to provide the highest level of Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu and Self Defense Martial Arts instruction by giving students a safe, progress-​oriented learning environment in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley. Following the teaching methods of Master Carlos Gracie jr. we are able to offer a martial arts program structure for all levels; whether you are a beginner or experienced martial artist. We provide a clean, safe, friendly, family oriented environment that allows our students to improve upon their martial art skills. Gracie Barra Pasadena is owned by brothers and Pasadena residents, Orlando and Armando Sanchez.

Prof. Orlando Sanchez is a Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu Black Belt under renowned Professor Ze Radiola, of Gracie Barra PE in Recife, Brazil. Prof. Orlando is an undefeated professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter. He is a member of the Kings MMA Team in Huntington Beach, CA, led by legendary trainer Master Rafael Cordeiro. There Prof. Orlando trains Muay Thai, No-​Gi Jiu Jitsu and MMA with champions like Fabricio Werdum, Renato Babalu Sobral, and Wanderlei Silva.

«Coach» Armando graduated in 2002 from Arizona State University with an honors distinction of Cum Laude bestowed upon him – a feat that is achieved by very few students. He also received his Masters degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2010. Teaching comes natural to Coach Armando which is evidenced by a successful 10-​year teaching career. He trains in the martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu daily in both the Gi and No-​gi

Beautiful facility and amazing people. I love walking in and immediately being greeted by smiles and a high five! From the very first day, the entire team and all the coaches make you feel welcomed and like a part of the team, they really are one big family. Their classes are perfect for everyone of all levels and they really go into detail with technique instead of just throwing moves at you. They really take their time to answer any and all questions and go around to make sure everyone has it down so no one feels lost or confused. Regardless of your skill level, everyone there is willing to train with you and help you out, which really makes you feel like part of the team. Wether you want to compete or just do it for fun, this is the place to go! No matter what, you’ll get some of the best training around! I love this place!

Update 2 years later and yes sir my boy is still here, in the course of that 2 years. My daughter decided to join July 2016 is her one year anniversary and almost to her gray/​white belt she’s loving it and made so much friends. Also I myself joined this year, I go almost 3 days a week and it’s so much fun besides the benefits of getting a full body work out. I can confidently say I learned new techniques that will help me with self defense. And lastly I got my husband to join too and now he can’t stop talking about how much he loves Jiujitsu. So if you’re considering any form of martial arts try Jiujitsu especially gb Pasadena or la Canada with the best coaches, and ADCC and future UFC champ Professor Orlando. We love it here everyone is really caring and humble, amazing people! It’s no wonder that gb Pasadena n La Canada will remain a very popular location ! With new beautiful flooring and soon to have state of the art spa type feel restroom and locker room. Expensive mats and ample parking! They really do put a lot of money in this facility. Always clean, always beautiful. Just been such an amazing journey for my family. Will update a few years down the line n yes most def you’ll still see us here!

*** If you are serious about trying Ju-​Jitsu, this is the place to be! It’s awesome for both Kids and Adults, You will learn techniques on how to protect and defend yourself. For parents that is a main goal. GB Pasadena is a Very friendly and operates on positive environment. All Coaches are very approachable and are tentative to all levels and ages. Here you will get the best day-​to-​day training hands down!
The schedule is full of classes to meet anyones schedule. Gb Pasadena is Owned by Black Belt Orlando Sanchez & his brother Coach Armando.

I started training at Gracie Barra Pasadena over 4 years ago when I was 13 years old, and I also had the privilege of teaching in the kids program for almost two years until I left a couple months ago.
For the most part my experience there was amazing. I wasn’t interested in jiu jitsu at first, but my parents pushed me to try it out and after a very short time, I was hooked!
As time went on, the team became like my second family and the school was my second home. I learned a lot, especially under coach Josh, one of GB Pasadena’s previous instructors. I felt like I belonged, and I was proud of the values of respect, teamwork, learning, humility, and anti-​bullying that had been taught to me since I started in the kids program, that I myself had the privilege of teaching to kids, and that I believe continue to be taught to the kids at GBP. I realized, however, that I cannot truthfully say that all of the same principles taught to the kids carry over to what older students, specifically the more advanced/​those who compete, are taught.
Although I, along with several other coaches and students, recently made the choice to no longer be a part of the team, I am grateful for the time I spent at Gracie Barra Pasadena. I love everyone there, and I’m grateful for the great memories as well as the lessons of hard work and of never giving up. I love BJJ now, and it continues to be a significant part of my life.

My kids have been training at Gracie Barra Pasadena for five years now. They started as toddlers with Professor Orlando and they enjoy it as much today as when they started. Over the years, the childrens and teens program which has developed under Coach Armando is outstanding. He has a brown belt in jiu jitsu, but his background as a teacher with a Masters in Education shines through in how he is able to connect with each child and sees where their individual needs are. The classes are a great balance where there is structure and discipline which is part of learning a martial art, but also fun and engaging. My children have developed strong friendships at Gracie Barra Pasadena, largely through the positive atmosphere and the bonds and camaraderie that jiu jitsu fosters. Importantly, they have also developed self confidence and esteem which carries over into their school and outside lives.

Great hobby for kids! The coaches are great and not only do they get exercise but the kids also get more confident, learn respect, form friendships and learn about what to do if someone is bullying someone at school. There is no kicking or striking which appealed to us. Our family highly recommends this place if your child wants to start with a martial art.

Gracie Barra Pasadena is hands down one of the best jiu jitsu instruction academies. I have been to several schools in my time and the facility, staff, and team atmosphere here is surpassed by none.
I have trained on and off at GB Pasadena for the better part of 3 years. In this time, I was attending university far away and could not make the trip over to GB Pasadena to train. I tested out many academies, but none could match the excellence of GB Pasadena. Right after I graduated from university I made sure to come right back home to train at the best academy, GB Pasadena. The lead instructor at GB Pasadena is none other than Professor Orlando Sanchez himself, one of the best jiu jitsu practitioners in the world. Supporting him in instruction are coaches who always place at all IBJJF competitions. Everyone is friendly at GB Pasadena and Coach Armando alongside Orlando has cultivated a family atmosphere where people can interact, trade BJJ techniques, and just hang out. The facility is equipped with changing rooms, vanguard elevated mats, and sweet booming loud speakers. GB Pasadena is an extremely positive environment to learn BJJ and everyone is welcoming. Outside of BJJ Orlando and Armando work to teach kindness, humility, and humbleness. They stress the importance of not just improving your BJJ technique, but character building and improving as an individual.
GB Pasadena is a great place to improve in BJJ and in life! I highly recommend training here.

This place has literally changed my life! I am constantly inspired and pushed to be a champion in all aspects of life. Everyone who trains here, be it Doctors, Lawyers, Artists, police men etc. all come together to train hard and support one another like family. Coach Armando & Professor Orlando run the school with great pride and professionalism. I am honored to train with such an amazing group of people. I love the staff here. Coach Armando, Coach Alex, coach Faith who teach the champs 1. We have been with this establishment for almost two years. The parents here are awesome also they are not crazy tiger parents and let the coaches deal and handle the kids. Hello that’s why we pay a monthly. Let the coaches teach them. Like most other martial arts I’ve been to that is what happens. But thankfully the parents are great and let them teach.
My girl has been doing awesome and hopefully she will get to compete when she is ready. I love that this place does not force you to compete or have to compete.
This Gracie Barra Pasadena is thee best jiujitsu. Yes so I am bias!

I love everything about Gracie Barra Pasadena. After my first free class I signed up right away. :) Professor Orlando is the best. He and all the coaches do a great job! If you love being active and working out or just want to try something new, you just have to try jui jitsu. It’s something else. The best part about it is knowing you have a place to go where everyone is positive and motivating. You train together, you learn together, you win together. I highly recommend Gracie Barra Pasadena!

Professor Orlando’s modo is «Champions in Life» and that’s what each jiu-​jitsu student strives for at GB Pasadena. We train hard and with humility. In the year that I’ve been training at GB Pasadena, I’ve gained so much, everything from great camaraderie, fitness, endurance and the art jiu-​jitsu. Competing has only elevated my jiu-​jitsu, and the support leading to the competition is unbelievable. The coaches and teammates go out of their way to help prepare you and support you along the way. Professor Orlando takes time out of his busy schedule to coach everyone at competitions. He’s there to answer questions in class and roll!
Our coaches are extraordinary! Coach Armando, Ben, Bert, Johnny, Shawn, Garrett and Josh! Each coach has their unique style, ability and patience to teach anyone.

I am writing as a parent with a child enrolled in the Little Champs program (4 – 6 yrs). Short version is I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
I have just a casual knowledge of Martial Arts and was looking for program to enroll my son in. I was considering a few highly rated programs closer to my home, when another parent enthusiastically recommended GB Pasadena. He described Jiu Jitsu as being especially good for kids because there is NO STRIKING and size/​strength are not necessarily an advantage. That sounded good to me, but I had no idea if my son would take to it or not (he’s not the most physically adventurous kid.)
By the end of the initial trial session, my son was hooked. Coach Armando is amazing. He runs the classes with enthusiasm, interest, and respect, and that carries through to all the kids. They work hard, but they also are having fun, and they support each other. There is a real feeling of community here. Coach Armando and Professor Orlando have something very special here.

Moved from Guam on a scholarship to a music school in Los Angeles and had been training with a couple bjj practitioners back home, I felt like it was about time to get back into shape and train again. Did my research and came across GBpasadena, gave them a call and spoke to coach Mando after having one conversation I decided to roll through been there for almost a month now and loving every minute of it! Professor Orlando Sanchez is a beast and all the coaches are so Humble, kind and they push you to be not only a better martial artist but to be better in life! Go GBPASADENA.

First, everyone was very nice and supportive at Gracie Barra Pasadena. I was totally new to Jui Jitsu and a little wary, but the staff was friendly and would even call to check in on me, which made what happened later even worse. I had a health issue that came up that made it difficult for me to practice, so I went in and discussed with the owner, but in the end had to stop. I had signed up for a six-​month contract and this was only the second month. I was fine paying the rest of the six months, but after that I continued to be charged the monthly fee. I thought this was a mistake, and I was being erroneously charged, so I called to clear it up and request reimbursement (the sum was over $ 1,000 dollars). I was told I had to give 20 days notice to end my contract, so all the charges were valid. I did not have a copy of the contract, so I had no idea I had to opt out of payment after the six month contract expired.
Overall, this just left a really bad taste in my mouth and ended up being a really disheartening experience. The owners knew I had stopped coming because of health issues, but they just happily kept charging me. So if you sign up for a six-​month contract — IT IS NOT FOR SIX MONTHS! YOU MUST NOTIFY THEM TO OPT OUT.

I have been training at Gracie Barra Pasadena for over a year. Gracie Barra Pasadena is the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dojo in San Gabriel Valley. Jiu Jitsu is an excellent martial art for everybody and training at Gracie Barra will add a number of benefits to your life, including weight loss, overall fitness, confidence, and most importantly self defense. I recommend everybody in San Gabriel Valley check this place out.
As far as kids martial arts go, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is number one since it will teach your kid self defense and instill in them a strong sense of confidence as well as discipline. The kids classes are nothing short of amazing and I recommend all parents I know living in San Gabriel Valley to give their kids a chance to learn a great self defense martial art at the best school that teaches it.
There are also women’s only classes. Training this martial art at Gracie Barra Pasadena will help with fitness, weight loss, self-​confidence, and great self defense.
Gracie Barra Pasadena has a great kids martial arts and self-​defense program, a great women’s only martial arts and self defense program, and it also has daily classes for everyone to train at. There is something for everyone, and everyone living in San Gabriel Valley should be training at Gracie Barra Pasadena!

I was introduced to this place by a good friend of mine, and I’m glad I was. If you have any interest in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or martial arts in general, don’t hesitate to check this place out. The owners are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and Professor Orlando is just so darn inspirational. You also really feel like you’re part of a family when you train here. If you’re looking for weight loss or just plain ol fitness, this is the place to be. I’m also planning on convincing my lady to check it out, since they’re starting up some female only classes.

I need a place to train since my home school was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Found 2 GB schools that were open. Northridge was a bit far from, but Pasadena was only a 40 minute drive.
Like every Gracie Barra school Ive attended, the instructor and students welcomed me with open arms. Felt at home. The students here are very good. The teaching is also top notch.
One thing that is different here than my home school is that it is competition driven. We ended the class in a typical 5 min jujitsu match. We were going for points. Wasnt prepared for that, lol.
I enjoyed my visit and plan to go there on Sundays from now on.
