Great service! They changed my leaking radiator and a bunch of other things within 1 day for a reasonable price. I will definitely come back!

Let me start by saying I’ve been coming to Hilo for oil changes for years. Good service at a reasonable price.

Although the sign out front advertises an oil change for under $ 20 I was advised that my car requires synthetic oil and the final cost would be in excess of $ 60. This is after years of getting non-​synthetic oil changes… at HILO. Supposedly there was an industry notice advising only synthetics to be used on my particular car — Plymouth Vibe. Really?
This reeks of «bait and switch». I left and will never go back… they have lost a customer for life.
I then drive to MEINKE on Hill Ave. A national company which I’m sure will have heard of this so called «notice». Nope… they charged me $ 19.95 for a non-​synthetic oil change. You can even schedule an appointment to get in-​n-​out quickly.

Less than 2 miles from Hilo but worlds apart when it comes to Service & Price… and honesty.

Hilo Auto Service is great! I have a 2008 Ford Focus with 80,000 miles and have taken my car to Hilo since 2014. They installed a water pump, transmission and motor mounts, belt tensioner, new battery and all oil changes with synthetic oil. The owner Eli and technician David are beyond honest and the service is exceptional. I recommend Hilo Auto to everyone.

Very disappointing experience — Mind you I had been going to this place for years to get oil changed but purchased a newer car and had to get my first oil change. He looked me up in the system since I was a «regular.»
The guy knew I wasn’t into cars because I could even tell him what year my new car was. So I point to his sign and say «I want the quick oil change.» He asks what kind of oil and I say I don’t know. He runs down the options and I say/​ask «Synthetic? I’m sorry I don’t know the difference.» He replies «Ok, synthetic. It will be ready in 15 minutes.» The car is ready on-​time so I approach the register and he says «That will be $ 65.80.» I asked «What happened to the $ 19.99 oil change?» His reply was «Oh that’s for regular oil not synthetic. You should have known that. You’ve been here before.» My final reply to him was «You are correct I have been here before and have never paid $ 65.80 for an oil change.»
I quickly paid and will surely not be back there again. I’ve referred everyone in my office there over the years to get their oil change done. Needless to say they have already heard about my experience and won’t be back either. Proper customer service tactics would have confirmed the price of the synthetic vs regular especially since I pointed at the $ 19.99 sign outside. Now I wish I had read Unilocal before this last visit. I’d be $ 40 richer.

Took longer then was originally told. Not too much up selling. Just a cabin filter for $ 30 bucks. Meh

They pulled a bait and switch! The sign outside advertises an oil change for $ 19.99 but when I pulled into their shop they insisted that I needed synthetic oil which would cost at least twice as much.
They refused to perform the regular oil change claiming it was unheard of to use anything other than synthetic in a car like mine, so I took it to the dealer and guess what? They gave me a standard oil change and the car is just fine.

Eli and his team are so awesome. We have two cars and one of them (2003 PT Cruiser) has been coming to Hilo for all it’s major services ever since we moved to the area. They have taken really good care of it. One time the air conditioning stopped working after they had flushed the system and replaced the fan. I brought it back and they made sure it worked perfectly for no charge. Most recently, which prompted me to write this review is I just brought my 2011 Volkswagen Golf in for it’s 80,000 mile maintenance. This car has been to only the dealer for all of it’s maintenance so I was really nervous bringing it anywhere. We are on a real tight budget this year with Christmas and the current state of the economy (we only have one income) and I was ready to do some of the maintenance now and the save up for the rest after the holidays. Eli gave me a quote that matched our budget and was able to do all the maintenance in one shot. This was a HUGE relief for me especially since we were in a really tight situation. After going to Hilo for years, I can’t believe I am just now writing a review.
They don’t just do oil changes… They do everything and they do it with quality service, parts and tools.

I have been going to Hilo auto for about 20 years. They always make me feel at home and like family. Eli is very welcoming. The service is fast and you will always get the lowest quoted price and it stays THAT price when you receive the bill. I have recommended all my family and friends. Great place to get great service.

I’ve been taking my and all of my families vehicles to Hilo Auto Service for 5 years plus… They are always professional, employ top notch mechanics and the prices for labor and repairs are always fair. I will not take my business to any other mechanic. They are that good. Whatever problems your car may be experiencing, the professional crew at Hilo Auto Service will be able to troubleshoot and repair your ride in a timely and affordable manner.

If I can sum it up in a few words, I would have to say, these guys are honest!
As I rely heavily on other Unilocalers’ reviews, I will tell all about my experience with Hilo.
I came in today, for the first time to get my car diagnosed. Other places couldn’t wait to charge me $ 90– $ 110 just to diagnose my car. They test drove it, pulled the tires off, and inspected my car, for Free! No pressure on repairing my car with them.
Hours later, my husband took his car there to diagnose his car. He was previously told by another mechanic he needed to change his bearings. After Hilo checked it out, they couldn’t find anything wrong with his car. They saved him over $ 300, and we both really appreciated the honesty!
The mechanics are experts and they all are very helpful. I will be back there to take care of all my future needs with my car.
It’s really hard to find a trusted and reputable mechanic out there, but take it from me, these guys know their stuff!

Omg, I have been coming here for years! Fast, friendly service, they do an awesome job and I never have to worry about being ripped off or over charged. They are very honest and to the point. I can’t believe I used to go to BMW for my services, what a waste!

We have been coming here for a few years for oil changes. I love this place! It’s family owned and operated and they are so nice, and hospitable, they’ve never tried to up-​sell me, they’re incredibly quick and efficient, and extremely reasonably priced! I’d much rather give my money to a family shop instead of the usual big guys… Give them a try, you will keep coming back.

I took my Jetta in here for two different repairs. For each repair I ended up having to come back an additional time because they didn’t fix the issue properly and my check engine light came back on within two days of having it «fixed» there. They admitted that the problem was due to a «faulty purchased piece». Um. why is it that on two SEPARATE occasions the piece they purchased was faulty? That seems a little odd. They’re either buying from a sketchy company or are lying to cover up their own error.
The second problem I had was with my engine overheating. Well, even recently after they REALLY «fixed» the issue, i had another problem (within two months) with overheating! I decided i wasn’t going to go back to the same incompetent place after I’ve wasted my time and almost 200 dollars for nothing so I went to a different autoshop that said the problem was actually DIFFERENT and more involved than the people at Hilo… not to mention the fact that they charged me LESS than Hilo. This is unfortunate because Hilo IS good for oil changes. Not much else. I will not be back.

I can’t say enough thanks to the. Owner his son and his two great mechanics. Honest prices are fair. I have been going to them over 5 years. Don’t waste time. I will not go anywhere else to service my cars.

I was on the freeway, when my car started restarting itself. My husband and I exited the freeway and found this repair shop not far from the freeway.
I believe the guy who helped us was named Kevin Hilo. I parked my car on the street and he offered to move the car into the shop garage for us, and checked everything out. The battery was just not installed tightly enough and he corrected it for us for no charge since it was a minor fix. The service was fast and EXCELLENT (the service guy even offered water for my dog) and they were so honest. Any other place would have ripped us off, but because of the honesty, I will definitely be back here if I need any car repairs when I’m in Pasadena! Thank you! A+

So my first encounter was that I desperately needed an oil change– didn’t think I was going to make it home without it. Hilo was the nearest auto shop according to Unilocal,so I called and although they were about to close, they agreed to stay open to change my oil. $ 60 for a synthetic oil change done in 15 minutes. Compare that to other places I’ve been ($ 80 — $ 90, 1 – 3 hours)!
The second time I came in to get my brake pads and rotors replaced. There was a small complication with their auto supplier, but they were honest about it and offered me a discount for the extra time. Their prices beat anywhere else I could have gone to get a full brake job.
I’m going back next week to get my brake sensors replaced– which they noticed and immediately ordered the parts so that they’d be there by the time I return.
Extremely friendly people. You can tell they work on cars because that’s what they enjoy doing. It isn’t about the money for them like it is with many other auto shops.

Service was fast and efficient. Prices beat Jiffy Lube, EZ Lube, and other coporate chains.
