Lovebirds is unique in the sense that we have a bakery in store so all of our pastries and croissants are made fresh daily in house. We brew a variety of fresh gourmet coffee that is a perfect complement to any of our breakfast items. Lovebirds also has a robust lunch selection that is sure to satisfy any craving and appetite. We are also super flexible here and if you want to customize your sandwich, not only can we do it, but we encourage it! With more than 70 lunch items, there is definitely something for everyone.

History

Established in 1984.

The history of Lovebirds Café & Bakery starts more than 30 years ago when two brothers, one an Aeronautical Engineer and the other a Chemist, wanted to try their luck in the food industry. Our first store was opened in Alhambra in 1983, and has now grown into a five location chain known as Lovebirds Café & Bakery.

Business Owner

Post college Jahanshah (Big John) and Jahansooz (Little John) went into business together. After a lot of trial and error, Lovebirds Café & Bakery was born. The brothers built the café from the ground up and revamped their business plan several times before they got it just right. Initially, the brothers opened a Juice Bar and Italian Ice Cream shop. This then lead to them expanding into sandwiches and further on to making their own bread. They learned how to make bread from a German bread mix supplier and still buy the mix from them to date. The brothers welcome to you Lovebirds Café & Bakery where you will find exceptional food and service.

I seriously don’t get all the people complaining about delivery service, clearly not Lovebirds fault. Everyone knows ordering from Eat24 is complete BS. Hmm Idk maybe you should get off your butt and go pick up your food :).
Anywho, I love it here. I’d been hearing all the rave about Lovebirds for some time and finally made my way over and now I’m obsessed. There aren’t many healthy food choices around and I’m super picky when it comes to Caesar Salad. Now this is my go-​to spot. When I first had the Caesar salad it tasted kind of plain but now I add pepper and Avacado and it’s soo good, literally the perfect salad.
Side note* I also tried their French toast last week and omggg soooo good!
Parking: I always get lucky and find a spot in the front. I’ve even parked in the loading zone a few times just to run in and grab my pickup order. I’ve never had issues with the cashiers taking too long to give me my order. I think they’re starting to recognize me now lol.

No stars! If you want to actually get your food, don’t order from this place. 3rd time trying to get food delivered from here. They show up after an hour and a half to two hours and no one ever calls to let you know that there’s an issue. When I call to get order status, there’s always «an issue with their system». Complete bull and very unapologetic. I finally learned my lesson!

Lovebirds has the best sandwiches and desserts in town. We get sandwiches for our company lunches about once a month. The chicken salad sandwich is one of the favorites. The location is extremely convenient. I call and place the order the night before and show up about 11:30 the next day and our order is always ready to go. The prices are pretty fair. Thanks Lovebirds.

I occassionaly come here for desert when I have a sweet tooth or soup when I’m sick. Not too fond of their sandwiches. They are pretty basic and simple. Not worth my dollar.
Everyday is a different soup menu and its honestly a hit or miss with this one. Sometimes its too salty so its hard to rate this one.
They had a special where you get a free desert on your birthday but I’m not sure if the deal is still going on.

WHAT HAPPENED???
Did Lovebirds change Chefs? I’ve been eating here for years so I know what to expect when I order items. It was not the case this time.
My beloved breakfast burrito which I have ordered many many times changed. It was not satisfying. I AM VERY SAD. Believe that the price went up and the food isn’t as good. It was the type of egg they used. Also just the whole combo in a bite didn’t taste the way I have had it for years and years. Even the flour tortilla wasn’t good. The only thing that was the same was the salsa.
I was trying to order through Eat24 to use the weekend discount. However, the breakfast burrito was the only item that was not on the app menu. I had to call it in. Believe that the price went up too since I have ordered. Knowing exactly how much I have paid each time, I was surprised to see the receipt. In fact I did the math — price increased by 28%.
Don’t think I will be coming here for the breakfast burrito any longer.
Also, the pastry/​cake case didn’t have as many items as before. It was strange. I only saw 3 bars and 2 cakes on the right side. Chef and staff change? Change of ownership. Whatever it is, I was highly disappointed…

raising the price in itself wouldn’t have made me that disappointed but CHANGING MY BREAKFAST BURRITO and telling me that nothing changed???

I’ve had the same breakfast burrito from this location for years. In fact, I had it the way it was supposed to be only 2 – 3 weeks prior to this. It doesn’t sound like an off day. I may not want to order from here again.
Just so you know… Lovebirds used to be in my Pasadena Eats List (a very short list). Took you off the list.

The delivery arrived in 2 hours 30 minutes. I have no words for their muffin and iced cofee, tossed them into trash once tasted. Chicken and turkey sandwiches were average, definetely not worth the wait.

Two areas with registers; one unattended. The staff offer no encouragement to the patient online picker-​upper. Five instances of brief eye contact followed by dismissal. Thirty minutes into my wait at the counter, I tapped at my phone and asked Eat24 for an update. Fifty minutes into my wait, I canceled my order.
Did I mention this is my second (and final) failed attempt to pick up an order from this café? However good the food or coffee might be, I have no idea. I had plenty of time to notice that they could use some help with their design cues (the customers have no indication where to line up, or where to wait for an order.) The staff lacks the impetus to initiate contact with customers.
When they’re staring pointedly at the hopper instead of asking the giant, hungry gentleman whether he requires service, one wonders whether this is a food service establishment or some kind of obscure performance art.

I strongly dislike to give bad reviews but this time I feel very disappointed. But first of all, this review is for their sandwiches at this Lovebirds location particularly and only.
Me and my wife are regulars at the Alhambra location getting sandwiches and pastries at least 3 times a week. Sometimes they are limited in pastries or they have non at all and since Lovebird Colorado location bakes all breads and pastries for all other locations and sometimes we drive to Pasadena to get them. This morning I ordered a Wild Alaska Smoked Salmon sandwich to go for the first time and when I got home a surprise I got when I open my sandwich. TINY little sandwich! I checked my receipt to see if they by mistake charged me for half a sandwich but no, it says «whole». It actually said «whole». Then I called the store and asked. So the lady who answered the phone inquired employees and yes, they gave me «whole». Are you Kidding me? Then I asked why at Alhambra location they give you the same sandwich for the same price but near twice the size? Her answer was: yes, the sandwiches are smaller than the other location, same bread but less meat. Why? Because different ownership.
I’m sorry but I feel cheated on and disappointed!
Not going to order sandwiches again from this location.
The pastries are a worth to drive there, NOT the sandwiches.

A local friend and I visited this place on her recommendation to catch up over lunch a couple of days ago. It is a larger place than the name might suggest, and the lunch counter setup (not table service) seems to work well, although it gave more of an airport feel to the seating area.
I was intrigued by the menu’s offering of a Wild Alaskan Salmon sandwich, and chose that for my main course. However, the menu failed to specify it was actually SMOKED salmon, which I still had and enjoyed — thanks to the choice of ciabatta bread (many other options were available) with the main course. However, I might have appreciated if the type of preparation was specified, since I assumed it was going to be grilled. The drink selection was surprisingly limited, and a cookie I had with my order was on the small side.
Nonetheless I feel I’d come here again if I lived in the Pasadena area, as it had more of a «local» feeling than some of the chain-​based eateries in the vicinity, and probably also was more affordable than some of its neighbors.

Don’t tell anybody, but… I’ve been in love with the chicken salad for about 3 years now. I love it so much, that I used to visit 2 – 3 times a week. I’ve slowed down… but I’d eat it everyday if I could.
Chicken salad is simple to make and I’m always surprised when I come across a really bad one. Thank goodness that’s not the case here! You get plenty of chicken in every bite. It’s not dry, greasy or too mayonnaise-​y with bits of gristle or fat. It’s perfect with the right amount of tomato, lettuce and bread. I can say the same for the tuna salad as well. Simple recipes that taste damn good.
Don’t get me started on their tomato bisque or lemon bars. Everything is freshly made and you can tell by the taste. Yummy, yummy, yummy.

First time here. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The pastries looked amazing, but sadly i did not try! aybe on a splurge day. My 6 year old and I shared a make your own omelet. It was very fresh and satifying. Im not a huge potato fan but he killed them! We also got a fruit plate and snacked on that before our meal came. Its really big. Thank god because ots 7 bucks! But you can tell its freshly cut. Oj and coffee also good! Not a bad breakfast at all, cant wait to try the sandwhiches for lunch!

I had the salad and sandwich combo. The Cesar salad definitely had too much cheese but the chicken salad sandwich was pretty good! The crust of bread was so hard. I’ll probably be back again hoping the bread will be better

I’m a fan of this café! I have never been here, so cannot comment on the service. But the sandwiches my friend picked up for me were awesome!
My favorite is Love That Basil… it’s heaven on bread for vegetarians (am not a vegetarian, just love veggies for lunch!). I had mine on seven grain bread which itself was delicious. It has Gruyère cheese, avocado, fresh basic, mixed greens and my favorite pesto! It was so yummy, I didn’t even stop to take a picture for this review. The full sandwich is huge, I could only eat half for lunch. My friend ordered the half size of the Alaskan salmon (cream cheese, capers, tomatoes and red onion) on Jewish egg bread, it was yummy as well.
I can’t wait to stop by next time and try more sandwiches.

I love this place! The location is well sized for being situated in pasadena, the décor isn’t overwhelming but it is elegant and the food is delicious! I never thought I would like a black bean egg burrito so much.
The orange juice is heavenly. It makes you realize that there is definitely a difference between bottled orange juice and fresh squeezed orange juice.
I won’t hesitate visiting them in the future.

I came here for a quick bite to eat during my lunch break. I ordered the smoked salmon with cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and capers sans the bread. I try to avoid gluten and bloating, the staff made my order into a salad instead. Prices are pretty average for a lunch and a soda $ 11. Doesn’t look like there are any lunch specials. I would probably get the lunch special next door for $ 7 at Japan Bistro, but have been tying to switch it up since I eat Asian a couple times a week.

A great spot in eastern-​ish Pasadena to grab lunch. VERY busy at that time but if you can get in after 1 pm it’s nice and quiet and seating is plentiful. I have yet to be disappointed by the sandwiches; I like too the availability of half-​orders.
Be careful w/​parking — when I was there the enforcers were super-​quick on the ticketing, so obey signs re: parking limits posted up front.
