Pasadena Meadows Nursing Center

Months ago my my dad was admitted here and I saw the Unilocal reviews, mostly positive. I overlooked the bad reviews because of the glowing reviews. The facility looks brand new, it’s modern looking, looks on top of their game. Especially the first month! They try so hard to make a good impression in that first month. It was as if I had hit the jackpot for my dad and I had found a great facility!
Then the cracks started to appear. My dad was constantly complaining of needing his diaper changed and the staff saying they had just done it. Of course it hadn’t. I watched other patients call out for help and spend 45 minutes to over an hour calling for a nurse, even with the call buttons being lit up. Or I’d see nurses come in, turn off the call button and say they’d be right back. It would be an hour or not at all. They’re short staffed, so a few nurses are really watching over 20 patient clusters at a time. The nursing staff are all relatively nice but they’re overburdened.
Then there’s the social workers. One of them, Patricia, she’s very curt and doesn’t care to talk much with families. I had met with her once and she kept deferring me to other people. Always hiding in the nurses station. Then there’s Jasmine. Useless. Misplaced important request formers, didn’t schedule appointments even when I had confirmed multiple times, had no idea about any of the programs my dad would qualify for, had to reminder her over and over again about things I wanted her to look into. I don’t think wants to be a social worker because she lacks the instinct for it. She’s going to school for something else from what the staff said. Neither social worker has any idea how to hunt for social programs to help your patient. I was constantly told to talk to billing for these programs. Why the heck would billing know? Like I said, their social workers know nothing. On that topic, Billing and the business office are the most knowledgable there. There were questions I had that most departments should have known, it was their business to know, and I’d get a «uhhh I don’t know.» I had one girl say she’d look and it would take 5 minutes. I walked out for a minute and came back to her on facebook. She didn’t know I was behind her, so I watched her for those 5 minutes message on facebook. One of the other staff had to tap her and she promptly hid it like I had never seen it, and said, oh, well, honestly, I don’t know the answer to your question. Go to business office, who knew exactly what to look up. Even printed me out what I needed. She’s a badass. And that’s the best thing I have to say about Pasadena Meadows.
There’s the discharge nurses. Two of them aren’t registered for the job. Admin are making them do the work anyway. Let’s say, once they decide they want you gone, they’ll try to get you anywhere but there. The staff doesn’t have ANY connections, so they outsource to recruiters working on 100% commission.
They have what are called «customer service» workers who weren’t certified at all in anything far as I could tell. I saw them as helper monkeys doing grunt work. They were relatively attractive women who would smooth over bad news to families. They’d also be ordered to move patients from room to room. Yeah, about that. I watched my dad’s stuff get misplaced under their watch and mix it up with other patients.
Constant other issues included the lack of communication between staff. The nurses and nurses station had ZERO idea my dad was being discharged the day he was discharged. Despite me telling both the business admin and the discharge ‘nurse’. If you don’t have planning meetings with every one of the staff that works with your patient (PT, dietary, activities, social worker, etc) none of them will know what’s going on. Their doctor isn’t onsite and only comes once a week. Food was nearly inedible. I know, I tried to on multiple occasions to see why my dad was so hungry when I visited him. I come from LAUSD schooling, so I know what bad school lunches are like. It made my school lunches taste classy! Oh, and you need to go in person to do any serious talks. Trying to get ahold of any of the staff over the phone means 10 – 30 minute wait times, or a constant «I’m sorry» from the receptionist (they’ve lost a few receptionists in the last few months, that’s telling). Let me also add that Physical therapy will tell you patients are doing better than they are… until their insurance runs out. Also I was being told my dad was being seen by PT every day. I can tell you that wasn’t the case. I’d wait hours to see if they’d come. Nope, no PT. Their PT admin will make the actual therapists cover that up.
What I’m saying is, Pasadena Meadows isn’t atypical as far as nursing home horror stories I’ve heard about after the fact. They just aren’t the facility they portray themselves to be. Avoid our mistake.

My friend’s father has been a patient at Pasadena Meadows for about a month and was recently transferred to an acute hospital for further evaluation and removal of a tracheal tube. He will be returning back to Pasadena Meadows for recovery due to the good clinical care. The director of nursing who from my understanding is new to the facility, is there every time we come and visit and she sets the tone for all the nurses in the building. We even have cell phone numbers of some of the employees which makes it a lot easier for us to communicate about his progress. I am impressed by how we are called and informed of his status at the hospital daily.

My grandmother was there for a few weeks after hip surgery and after reviewing the comments I was hesitant in bringing her for recovery but her doctor assured me the care was good. The care, food and cleanliness of the facility was acceptable. The reason why I’m giving this place a four star guess the calls take a little long time to transfer but considering the nurses are busy caring for their patients it’s understandable. Overall I would recommend this place and will bring my grandma back if needed.

The aesthetic was deceptively inviting. Upon my first visit to the location I thought it was beautiful inside and out. If their patient care was anything like their maintenance care of the facility perhaps there would be no complaints.
My aunt has issues that were communicated to the staff upon her arriving at the location and several times during her stay. She was sent for an evaluation and was placed on medication to prevent her episodes from occurring. The staff often called my mom that my aunt was having episodes and when my mother would question if they were giving my aunt her medication on a consistent basis, they would transfer her around and leave her on the phone to hold until someone ultimately hung up on her. Since my mother is disabled herself and doesn’t have transportation she wasn’t able to visit the location personally to see to my aunt’s care.
In respect to my aunts privacy, I won’t go into further details on her treatment but suffice it to say they «lost» my aunt. After the hospice nurse informed my mother that when she went to attend to my aunt, she was told she wasn’t at Pasadena Meadows any longer, my mother called them and they told her she had been sent to the hospital. Upon contacting the hospital, they advised my aunt had been sent back to Pasadena Meadows after being seen in urgent care. It took my mother several calls and being told they didn’t know where my aunt was that under advisement of my brother who is with the Sheriff’s department that she contact Pasadena Police Department to request a welfare check. After the Pasadena Police deputy contacted Pasadena Meadows, they were provided with the whereabouts of my aunt and provided them to my mom. It’s ridiculous that law enforcement had to get involved just to get simple information to the whereabouts of my aunt.
They treat patients who aren’t entirely capable of caring for themselves as an inconvenience and dismiss concerned family’s inquiries. The way this location treats patients who are mentally incapable to take care of themselves is atrocious and I would NEVER recommend placing a loved one in their care if they can’t make decisions for themselves or if you have a disability or distance issue where you cannot visit regularly to monitor the care of your loved one personally.

In visiting my grandmother I was very impressed with this facility. I have been to other nursing homes where the place feels dark and gloomy but as soon as I visited here I knew this was a great place. Right as I came in the entrance I felt at home. An open vibrant lobby, huge fish tank, and lots of natural light. It seemed that everyone working was very kind and helpful while accommodating my visits with family. Everything looked and felt clean. My grandma loves her nurses and also the BBQ chicken they make. They really care about everyone there and it shows.

The facility looks good and the CNAs and LVNs try hard but the administration is a mess. The director (David J. Weaver) is barely attentive and the social worker and other administrative staff are too young and inexperienced. It seems as if they are focused on getting patients for the reimbursement but not concerned once admission is finalized.
I think the nursing staff is good but the pace is too busy and they are overwhelmed. My grandmother’s clothes went missing a lot and ended up on other patients even though they are labeled. Don’t be fooled by the administrators that make all sorts of promises about care. You will end up frustrated. My grandmother was moved around a lot to different rooms without notice and when I would call to speak with social workers and administrators, I would get the run around. Her hospice care team was also denied access to her, so I moved her to another facility. This place could be good with a different administration in charge.

I am not a person who writes positive reviews on Unilocal but I wanted to take the time to show my appreciation of Pasadena Meadows for taking great care of my aunt. My sister and I are the only family my aunt has and we all live in Downey CA. My aunt’s doctor recommended Pasadena and we decided to take a chance and give it a try despite the distance, so far our experience could not had been better. The director of rehabilitation took the time to go over the rehabilitation plan for my aunt, the customer service team were always available to help with my aunt’s demands. The activities director was able to bring the Christmas spirit back to my auntie by getting her involved in a «door decorating contest» during Christmas time. She has made a great recovery. This facility will definitely be our first choice if my aunt ever needs rehab again.

We didn’t like their CMS rating but we still went there for my grand pa. It was a good experience, good customer service, good nursing. It was explained to us that the rating is mainly from the old place. It was the old Marlinda. It is totally remodeled and has been under the new owners for a little over a year now. We would definitely recommend.

My Mom had her nicer clothes STOLEN our of the laundry here, many times! I want to get her an iPad but I know for certain it will be STOLEN by the staff!!! This really irks me. How can they hire people who do such things in a nursing home? Disgusting. My sister put her into this place, but I want to find someplace SAFER for her than Pasadena Meadows. This used to be a better place, but then they sold it. Now IT SUCKS!

This place is chaotic! Not a good place for elders they seem to have mix of young and homeless looking patients. They move patients around without letting you know. My mom was in this facility and they moved her room 3times! Without letting us know. I don’t understand the purpose of moving patients around And missing some of her stuff.
