Salon Xia

So today we brought our daughter to get her hair styled for Prom. Something we have all been looking forward to. We had been referred to this salon and books our appointment. We didn’t get the stylist that was suggested to us, but was told all the staff is great so we booked with Jillian (not sure how she spells her name) we brought in a picture of what my daughter wanted. She wanted full curls and waves from top of her head to the bottom. When she was done, it was nothing like what we asked for. The waves were only toward the bottom and the back was straight like nothing was done to it. Her hair was placed to the the side and that was it. We didn’t have time to say something and have it adjusted cause time was crunching. We are very upset because a day that’s suppose to be magical for her was off to a bad experience. We had to fix her hair at home and do the best to make the best out of this day. We are just sadden that for a hefty price and we received service that could have been done at home I wish I could upload pictures of what we wanted and what we got to clarify this :(

Cynthia has to be one of the most unprofessional hair dressers (in her price bracket) that I’ve ever, ever, had the misfortune to come across. It’s seriously disappointing because she’s a great stylist and the salon is close to my home and office. My first experience with Cynthia was more than two years ago. She was well over an hour late for my appointment. The receptionist called her several times and she didn’t pick up. When she strolled in, there were no apologies. Later when I was in the chair, she blamed the receptionist for booking her for a time that she wasn’t in the salon… even though my appointment had been made weeks in advance. Hello — she didn’t notice when she left the night before what time she’d be coming in the next day? While I was disappointed in her tardiness and lack of professionalism, I loved my hair. I really did. To clear the air and get it off my chest, I wrote an email to the owner of the salon who responded swiftly letting me know that Cynthia was an independent contractor and handled her business as a… well independent contractor. Okay. Got it. I came in once again probably a little over a year later and she twisted my hair — no extensions. No problem. Fast forward to today. I get a voicemail message from the receptionist at 12:15p, letting me know that Cynthia was canceling my 7am appointment tomorrow morning. Less than twenty-​four hours notice. Why?!? Because I had cancelled «numerous appointments in the past.» I was flabbergasted. Truly stunned. I had not cancelled a single appointment with Cynthia. Ever. I called back quickly and told the receptionist it was a mistake. I went on to say that I had called in late December/​early January to make an appointment for braids. Cynthia was on an extended vacation so the receptionist could not make an appointment until she returned. She took my information — I never received a call back. In early February, I called again. This time the receptionist said she couldn’t confirm an appointment because she had to check with Cynthia to see how long to book the time slot for, again taking my information — again no call back. This past Tuesday, I went to the salon — on my lunch hour — and made the appointments in person. Obviously, I want to get my hair done and I didn’t want a run around, I work full time and have two kids. I realize in retrospect it was Cynthia that was the problem not the poor receptionist. I made an appointment for this Friday morning for a deep conditioning and blow out and next Friday for kinky twist. I ended the call by reminding the receptionist that they entered all appointments in a computer system — wouldn’t it be easy to see if I had made any appointments in the last year and/​or canceled them? She said she could look it up, she would talk to Cynthia and she would call me back in a couple of hours. It’s five hours later and seriously doubtful that she’ll call and honestly, the whole run around has left a bad taste in my mouth. I just don’t understand why Cynthia, a professional stylist, wouldn’t just say, I don’t want to do your hair. It’s definitely her prerogative. All businesses reserve the right to refuse service, so why put the onus on me for her issue? And it is most definitely her issue. At this point, all I could possibly see is that she may feel uncomfortable with everything she shared about her husband during my last appointment and doesn’t want to see me because it reminds her of a bad point in her relationship. I don’t know. I’m seriously annoyed. I have an engagement tomorrow evening and it’s beyond lame that she gave less than twenty-​four hours notice of cancellation for the seriously inane reason she did. I sadly, will put up with a lot from a good stylist but this beats all. Never again.

I’ve been seeing Gillian for years — first when she worked in South Pas and now in Pasadena at Salon Xia. She is really a fabulous stylist. She takes her time with every service and then always makes things look polished for me with a beautiful blow-​dry and flat iron. I just had a marathon coloring correction. Going from dark hair to light involves stripping the hair of old color, neutralizing it, washing it about 500 times (or maybe 5 times — I lost count, but it felt like a lot), putting in color and toner, and then blow-​drying and flat ironing for the shine. Maybe there was more involved than this, but these are the basics of this torturous color service that I will never undergo again. I’m embarrassed to say how long I spent at the salon as DH cared for baby; suffice it to say I got numerous texts asking for my ETA and I had to keep revising the estimate. Had o’dourves not been laid out for customer appreciation month, I would surely have fainted. As it was, I left a couple pounds heavier with some lighter locks and a grateful, but slightly exhausted smile.

Finding a new salon/​hair stylist is a scaryyyyy thing but this salon is amazing and lives up to all the positive reviews!!! Stephanie Jimenez is just GOD SENT and always works miracles on my very hard to deal with hair. She is a must see! I love this salon and am really happy every time I walk out! So happy to finally have a home salon !!!

I’ve been coming to Salon Xia since I moved to Pasadena 5 years ago. Gillian Sobolic is my stylist and she is AMAZING and a wizard with color.
The salon is inviting, professional, beautiful, and relaxing to be in.
My review today is actually for the hair styling and make up that was done on me and my bridal party for my wedding.
Gillian Sobolic and Gabbie Garcia both did hair for me and my wedding party and wow. Totally impressed. Gillian and Gabbie both took exactly what the photos me and my bridal party showed them and replicated them to the T on everyone. Everyone was SO impressed with their work. The make up was flawless and speaking for myself I felt like a movie star.
Important to note also — we stayed COMPLETELY on time and that was such a relief on a wedding day.

I love Salon Xia. It’s cozy with an upscale feel and clientele without being snooty or intimidating. My stylist of choice, my only choice is Stephanie Hernandez!!! She is so awesome! She’s super up on all the great trendy styles if that’s what u want, but knows what to give you or guide you if you don’t know. Her assistant Priscilla is so sweet and gives a killer shampoo/​scalp massage! I have lots of hair and it’s thick so I take a ton of time up. Stephanie does the best job she’s truly a sought after stylist, and very educated in her craft. I’ve had my hair colored and cut by her for awhile now and I travel to her because anyone else butchers me and for some reason my hair grows back better with her? If that’s a thing lol!

Claudia Coppel is amazing! She puts you right at ease the moment you meet her. She is very knowledgeable and offers helpful at home styling tips during your sessions with her. I have very thick, wavy hair and she manages to give me long beautiful layers. I’ve seen her twice now for haircuts and have just scheduled to see her for highlights!

The stylist I saw here was really nice, but when someone does something completely different from what you have agreed on and then upcharges you to boot… well, that’s not so nice. I went in for highlights, and the stylist suggested touching up my highlights at the roots and then «weaving in some lowlights for contrast.» She told me my hair would be darker, and I said that was OK – I assumed she meant a darker blonde, because at the outset I had told her I liked my color (a golden blonde). She asked me why I wasn’t interested in single-​process color, and I said I didn’t want a regrowth line at my part. So she put some foils on top of my head, then left the scene and her assistant starting squirting a single-​process color over all of my remaining hair! My finished hair was a medium brown with barely discernible highlights — I was stunned. Then, when I went to pay, the charge was $ 165 instead of the $ 100 I had been quoted for highlights over the phone. When I asked about it, I was told the $ 100 was for the highlights and the $ 65 was for «color” – color I neither wanted nor agreed to! I told the stylist that we had agreed to «weaving in lowlights,» not using all-​over single-​process color – I used to work at a hair salon, believe me, I know the difference! She said, «That would have been even more expensive. These are my prices,» and walked away. I tried to live with it for a couple days, but I hated it. It looked so fake with my coloring. I did what I’ve never done before, and requested a fix. The stylist put in a few more highlights, which improved it, but I ended up having to go to another salon to really get it fixed properly – this was after I realized, six weeks later, that the single-​process color she had used was demi-​permanent. How did I realize this? Because I had a very visible regrowth line at my part – an ugly transition from my natural dark ash blonde to a fake golden brown. Exactly what I’d said at the outset that I didn’t want. Serious miscommunication? Cutting corners? I don’t know, but one and done.

Beautiful Salon! Always offered a beverage when I’m seated in her chair. I’ve been seeing Claudia Coppel for over five years and she always makes me look great! My hair is starting to thin but she has cut my hair in a way that it’s not noticeable. Claudia also consults me on which product to use and how to style it. She’s has great energy and keeps up on the incoming styles!

If you are looking for an amazing stylist look no further than here… Claudia Coppel is the absolute best!!! She’s a true professional and expert! I highly recommended her!

I decided to try out Salon Xia when in town for a friend’s wedding, as it was near where I was staying and had good reviews for curly hair. My appointment was with Stephanie, and I had a cut and a blowout.
Pros:
The space is really pleasant, with a lot of natural light and a really soothing atmosphere. everyone is friendly, and it seems like the clientèle are loyal and are friends with the people who work there. They offer you drinks, which I guess is standard for boutiquey places but is also nice.
Stephanie was sweet and pleasant to talk to. She listened when I explained what I wanted, and seemed like she knew what she was doing. While overall the cut turned out unflattering, she actually did fulfil the couple of specific requests I made about making sure it looked healthy rather than trendy.
The blowout turned out pretty good, which is probably why I didn’t notice the issues with my haircut until later. The one amazing thing was that it kept shape for the rest of the night, which never happens. (The humidity gets up to 20%, and my hair usually goes back to curly.) Whatever technique and products she used were incredible.
Cons:
Street parking is only an hour, which is not a big deal if people are on top of it. Stephanie was about 10 minutes late, which is normal but shouldn’t be happening when you know your clientèle don’t have a lot of parking options. Also, a man who I assume was the owner pulled her aside in the middle of my cut to chat about salon business. It was totally not her fault and lasted only 5 – 10 minutes but at that point, the timing was already cutting it close and I didn’t want her to rush the style as a result.
The reason I feel compelled to write a review is because I’m constantly on the search for a salon that can cut curly hair, and I was hoping that I would find one here. Unfortunately, while my haircut isn’t bad per se, it harkens back to a time in my adolescence when I waged chemical warfare on my hair not realizing that it didn’t look good because no one I went to could cut it the way you’re supposed to cut curly hair. The cut was professional (even, clean lines, healthy looking), and actually looks okay (though not great) when I straighten it, but the layers don’t really work, and when it dries curly I get this mushroom look: short and poofy on top, with a longer layer hanging down at the same length. Not so bad that it’s worth the trouble to go somewhere else to try to fix it, but I’ll likely get my hair cut in a month or two instead of my usual 6 – 12 month schedule, which is especially frustrating given the cut was not cheap. If you’re paying for a high-​end haircut it shouldn’t remind you of a childhood full of bad haircuts at the local salon.
If you go to the salon for a chill experience, don’t mind paying for it and aren’t dealing with parking, it’s not a bad option. But if you have curly hair and want a cut that will last you a couple of months, I’d search for alternatives.

I came here once with Groupon for a blow out.
Susanna did a great job. I really liked her. She was fun, very communicative .She did a 5 minute consult before washing my hair. Overall a really good experience I recommend her.

I felt that I needed to add a little something about Cynthia (again). I LOVE CYNTHIA! The climate of this place is where you can feel at home and still have your hair done (especially if you have kinky, curly, natural hair). Cynthia made my hair grow and I have been with her for 3 – 4 years. We started with nothing (practically) when it came to my dreads and now I’m sporting a ponytail. I am probably one of the few clients that Cynthia has who is constantly swimming or surfing. We laugh about this fact and she does not make me feel ashamed for being a Black woman who LOVES the water and we take care of my hair in the process. It is always great to see a woman of color in a business like this. Love Cynthia and I would go WHERE EVER she goes.
Cynthia has the patience of a saint. If I had kids, I would trust my kids with her.

Lulu is absolutely amazing! I had to find a new hairstylist on the Eastside after we moved and I accidentally found Lulu and have never looked back! She is such a pleasure to spend an hour with — not only is she extremely talented with hair, but she is wonderful to chat with and has a really amazing positive attitude all the time! My daughter goes to see Cynthia who is also incredible! I highly recommend her as well — the salon is a beautiful home and the energy there is wonderful. it’s like walking into a museum — every time I’m there, there is something to look at that’s beautiful!

I had to take the time to write a review because I have been coming here for a couple of years now. Despite being persuaded to try other places, I just can’t leave! Staff is super friendly and makes you feel at home as soon as you get there. The location is pretty awesome and homey. I’ve been getting my hair done by Stephanie J. since 2013 and I love what she does every time. Highly recommended for a fresh cut or layers. She also thins my hair out and leaves it so light since its super thick and heavy. Love Salon Xia!

this is a very hard review for me, because i really liked this salon, and the stylist, that’s probably i kept trying to go back and make it better, but
my last 3 experiences with the same stylist were really bad, 1^st time i asked to get rid of the red tone in my brown hair, i end up with BLACK hair, and
had to get the color stripped off by my hair dresser in my home town.
then i tried to go back and wanted to grow my natural color back, i got low lights, didn’t work you could clearly see my roots, so i went back shortly after to try fix it, and just get a toner all over, the hair came out once again too dark, i did get charged for it (usually in my country when you are not happy with your hair the stylists fixes it for free) so almost 200 dollars later I’m not happy with my hair again.
i learned my lesson. i won’t go back.

I typically do not write reviews, however I felt it was necessary to considring my AWESOME experience.
I wanted a basic trim, my hair is long and had damage due to highlights and blowdrying. I found Salon Xia online and called and scheduled an apt for a basic cut with a entry level sylist for the $ 45 price. I didn’t want to pay $ 60 for a senior stylist for a basic trim. The receptioist set an apt for me same day at 1:30pm, she told me if it was a problem she would call me.
I arrived at the salon at 1:25 as scheduled and was told she was not able to do my hair after all and she had called me to inform me and she left me a message. I did get a missed call on my cell but NO message.
She told me another stylist would be avail at 2pm, if I would like to wait, however the price would be $ 60, since she was a senior stylist. I was frustrated considering I didn’t want to spend $ 60 I wanted to spend $ 45 and I had to wait another 30 min. however I didn’t want to leave and find another place, i had the day off and wanted to get my hair cut, so I waited.
The Owner came over to me to apologize for what had happened. he was very professional and said he would honor the $ 45 cut with the senior stylist, instead of paying the $ 60. I was very pleased:) Awesome customer service !!!
Gabby was the stylist I met with, and I LOVED HER!!! First, she was very professional, pleasant, and warm. She took the time to talk to me and really find what I was looking for, and she even gave me advise on how to treat my hair. She reccomended I cut four inches off my hair, I only wanted a trim, but I took her advise and I LOVE MY HAIR!!! She was right on it, my hair flows so nice, feels so healthy, and I would absolutley go to her again and I recommend her to anyone. :)

I had a MAJOR horror experience with my hair 2 years ago (yes. 2 years ago) and I haven’t let a pair of shears near my head since. I was recommended to Salon Xia /​Claudia from a coworker who I trust and am so glad I listened because not only do I LOVE my hair I LOVE this new salon and hairstylist that I can by loyal to.
Here’s what I love about Claudia and Salon Xia:
1. She is VERY good at asking and confirming what I want and what she is doing.
2. Even though she is the professional she doesn’t make you feel like you don’t know what you’re talking about.
3. She was very knowledgeable on the products and what to recommend me for my hair needs.
4. Salon Xia is SO pretty! Such a gem hidden away from the hustle and bustle. I like how it felt relaxing and not like a club.
5. Attentive and kind staff

Eliza (not sure of spelling) did an awesome job with my hair cut. I love it! She listened to what I wanted & cut it beautifully. She’s got talent!
$ 45 — wash, cut, & style.
Bonus: She kind of massages your head when she washes your hair… it’s a nice touch!

I called around noon because I suddenly realized that the color I had done else where the day before left me, not blonde, and I REALLY wanted to be blonde. So despite the $ 140 I had dropped at another salon, I called asking for help. The receptionist asked me what I was looking for and VERY wisely signed me up for consultation and reminded me that she wouldn’t give me a quote, and the session was 15 with a stylist that did have the time to do a color should she decide my hair was healthy enough BUT not to expect to have anything done, because the consultation was to see how healthy my hair was and if it was too damaged to color.
I got Gillian who was very nice. She looked at my color, asked me what I had gone in to get, and what I didn’t like about it. I had a funky hair cut, it was always brown on one side, and blonde on the other split down the middle. the blonde side was also short like a bob, and the brown side was shoulder length (it’s a funky japanese style color split down the middle). I told her I didn’t like how gray my blonde side was and how much it darkened my hair (see the before and after photo I uploaded). I also didn’t like the peanut brown on the long side, though it was nice, it was brassy and too close to my skin tone.
She gently lifted the toner first, then fully dried my hair so we could see what we had. My roots were weird colors, so we went ahead and bleached it gently, and treated the long side to even it. (See my photo upload), she FOILED each section of my roots so the bleach wouldn’t touch the too damaged part of the strands. it was METICULOUS. and it took foreverrrrrr but it totally came out great. She REALLY concentrates on her work, and I was falling asleep but she still carefully did my hair, layer by tiny-​tiny layer. She was also very nice, and friendly, and I felt like she really understood what I was trying to explain about color and asked me to be sure, when other stylists in my past have just gone, «yup I can do that» and it coming out nothing like what I meant.
4 hours later, and my hair was nice again! It was the colors it had been originally (before I got the weird dye job). Bang trim, and I came out to about $ 300.
Moral of this story is, go to the right person the 1ST time and avoid having to pay up to $ 500 getting it dyed, then dyed back, and being back where you started. T. T
