Tangles Salon

My level of commitment phobia when it comes to salons is pretty impressive. It’s always been hard for me to find a stylist who cares enough to slowly get to know my hair and how I like it cut, and I can be pretty ruthless when it comes to moving from salon to salon (though I always feel guilty about it). So I almost never write reviews for them cause it feels too «official» for me.
I’ve had some interesting stylists at various places over the years. One used to cut hair when she was high. Another was a middle-​aged divorcee who claims I convinced her to get high for the first time. So Tangles was almost too normal for me at first.
I started getting my hair cut by Bri when I worked nearby. She and I initially fought over — and eventually took turns sharing — a parking spot. I guess that was a sign she was destined to tame my sideburns on a regular basis. Now it’s been over six months since I stopped working near the salon, but I’m still driving there for haircuts, which is pretty serious for me. Bri is both skilled and friendly, and most importantly has invested in learning my hair and what I like. I don’t have to remind her every time about my cowlick; she knows exactly where it is. She’s also a dog mom, and keeps me updated on her dogs’ adventures (or just shows me photos on their Instagram). Plus she never cuts my hair when she’s high.
The environment of the salon is clean and modern — it was renovated not long ago — and Jeanie, Cathy and the rest of the crew are some of the coolest people you’ll ever meet while getting your hair cut.
So there, I’m «officially» reviewing a salon. I may never wanna admit that I’m settling down at one… but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

First time customer and will be a returning customer. Cute salon with great customer service. My stylist Hector gave life back to my hair! Exactly what I wanted!

My hair desperately needed a new style and Nicole did a fantastic job. I have wavy/​curly hair that had fallen flat and Nicole’s cut brought it back to life! She even showed me how to style using the Devacurl method and I kept getting compliments! Overall, service is great. Super friendly, clean, and organized.

I have been coming here since June of 2015, I have Cathy & Hector do my hair each and every time. The environment is Soo wonderful, customer service is fantastic! Location is soo convenient. Park meters right up front or a parking structure on the side. It always smells Soo good inside too!
My hair is extremely curly and I have been wanting it to get very very long, but my hair takes forever to grow! Since I’ve been coming here, my hair grows slowly! But it does grow!!! They are just Soo wonderful here. I recommend this place highly! Thank you Tangles!!!

I’ve been floating around to different places in Pasadena in search of someone who can cut curly hair, and after looking at some pictures online as well as the reviews, I recently decided to try Tangles. I’m so glad I did.
I recently had my hair cut by Danielle, and I haven’t had a short haircut that looked so good in quite some time! With curly hair, it’s hard to find someone who can keep your hair from turning into a triangle when you cut it short, but the Deva Cut that I had done was fantastic. My hair looked good after the cut, which is extremely rare as my curls prefer to freak out over hair cuts.
Danielle is also fantastic. She listened to what I wanted to do with my hair and then made my hair look good.
Since my hair cut, I’ve gone through an entire cycle with this hair. Even on washing days, which are the days when my hair tends to frizz the most, my hair has looked good. A good cut really does make a difference. I would definitely recommend Tangles’ Deva Cut to anyone with curly hair! It’s worth it.

My family and I have been coming to Tangles for 10+ years. Jeanie is a wizard when it comes to hair and does amazing work. Today my sister Kaley is getting her hair did. The stylists at Tangles take their time and produce great results here. I’ve referred a few family and friends to this gem in Pasadena, and we all come out here all they way from West LA!
When you come to Tangles, you won’t be disappointed. You’re transformation after you walk out is jaw-​dropping– people just look amazing!
Definitely call and schedule because they get booked up quickly!

I was so lucky to be able to have the opportunity to attend the Unilocal event here. In the cute outdoor shopping area in Pasadena Tangles salon has a super chic salon. It’s a great area with a ton of shops, work out studios, and trendy restaurants. If I lived closer to that area I would definitely go more often. They have many options for parking or meters along the street.
The event really gave the hair stylists a chance to showcase their talents. When I arrived at the studio I was greeted by Katie B. Katie is in charge of Unilocal LA. It was really cool to see how the Unilocal community is such a real thing. It was more than just sitting behind my computer to tell my experience. Everyone that was invited conversed and understood what good service is.
Unilocal really knows how to throw an event. Champagne, and horderves were provided upon entry. Every Unilocaler was assigned to a certain stylist. The stylists were sweet, and excited. They gave us three different looks. First, they she gave me a top knot look. After each look they had a photographer taking pictures in front of a Unilocal back drop. Hence my profile pic! The second look they gave me was a braid. She gave me a really cool fish tail braid that wrapped around my head. So cute! Lastly, I got a full shampoo & blowout! She was sweet enough to style all my extremely long extensions too.
We were also lucky enough to get our make-​up done. I forgot her name but she did a really good job at giving me fierce winged eye liner. I fell in love with my blow out and the studio. The salon itself is so chic. It has a really good vibe to it too. You feel like its a salon you can trust.
They also provided the cutest gift bag which everyone got. It came with a ton of Unilocal accessories and coupons. Amazing and so kind! I definitely recommend trying out this salon. I love it!

Been coming here to get my haircut for about six months, maybe longer. I must say I really love coming here. The environment is amazing the staff is absolutely wonderful and very accommodating.
I live in Tarzana so Tangles Salon isn’t exactly around the corner from me which should say a lot. I get my haircut by Hector. For someone who is as picky as you can be about my own hair it’s me. Hector always knows what I’m looking for. Of course it’s always helpful if you bring in a picture of what your looking for either style or color wise and because I have fine hair to begin with I can’t just style it but every time I get a cut Hector always does a fantastic job!
They even give you the option of coming in for a «tune up,» yes your car is not the only thing that needs to be maintained. So coming in to get the edges cleaned up is crucial.
So come in for a great cut and friendly service!
Got to run a cut and color is in order!

Bri is AWESOME!!! After using the same hair stylist for 10 years in Seattle, I was skeptical I would ever find another person that would meet my needs and expectations. However, after moving to So Cal I had to find someone new & local to the area.
I researched stylists & salons as much possible, Unilocaled and read other reviews, viewed Instagram pics, website surfed & finally decided to give Bri a try!
I was NOT disappointed at all! She matched my shade of blonde perfectly and gave me a terrific cut! She is sweet, talented & knowledgable!!! I’m sooo excited I found her and so is my hair! :) Thanks Bri and Tangles Salon. I will be back in the very near future!

Went in feeling oh so blue and frumpy, that is until… Lyn Nakamura happens! She is knowledgeable and very patient! I wasnt quite sure what I wanted. Her consultation was excellent. She asked lots of questions, showed many pictures, and gave many suggestions! Very warm, pleasant, and an absolute pleasure to work with. She then she went to work… snip, snip, highlights… and low and behold… I was transformed from frumpy to fabulous! She gave tips for styling and made sure I was happy. LYN NAKAMURA ROCKS!!! Thank you my dear!

Love this salon. They always try to get us an appointment, even when I call on a busy Saturday. They are fantastic with my sons. The stylists are great about giving the boys cuts that work with their individual hair types. I highly recommend for older kids like mine who are quickly becoming sophisticated tweens!

Great salon to get a Deva Cut! I wanted to finally try getting a deva cut and I am in love. Instead of driving far to Capella salon for it, going to Pasadena was a reasonable distance for me. My stylist was Stephanie and she was the nicest person I have ever met. She took care of my hair and made sure my cut was to my desire. The receptionist was also a sweetheart and I am definitely coming back for a trim. Thank you Tangles Salon for your great service!

I only cut my hair about once every 4 – 6 months, and a few months back I decided to visit Tangles and get a cut and color. My stylist was Nicole, and she was really good about working with me to get the exact color I wanted. The cut wasn’t anything fancy, but it was also good.
It’s only now that my hair is really growing out that I realize how well done the cut was! Even though it’s longer, the shape is still very distinct, almost like I just recently had it cut and styled. I’m pretty impressed with this, and even though I’m not due for another visit for awhile, I’m definitely going back to see Nicole!

Trust me: it’s not easy to find a salon with stylists who REALLY understand curly hair – the wide variety of types, what each needs and thus, the importance of individualized approaches. So after a lifetime of mostly hits and misses, my curly hair has found its home: Tangles IS that salon and Bri is that sylist!
I was impressed with Bri from the outset. She was friendly and personable, asked good questions, listened carefully to the ups and downs of previous experiences and to what I was looking for (e.g., nothing too structured or processed) AND most importantly, she ‘got’ my hair (a subtle blend of finer curly, straight, wavy that can be a challenge precisely because it is no one thing).
Long story short: Bri gave me an excellent cut in two stages: first, before the shampoo. Then after the shampoo, conditioning and finger styling with Deva Curl products, she made little adjustments, based on the way my hair was falling, curling. The result: a perfect cut – soft, natural looking and feeling. She also showed/​explained how I could get the same results at home, even writing down the steps in the process.
I have since made the shampoo and simple styling process – which takes just a few minutes now– my own; and I continue to love the result and get compliments from family and friends – and even from strangers. And I introduced my husband to Tangles and Bri; now he, too, is a believer!
Yes, you will also certainly enjoy the attractive, clean and neat salon and the other friendly personnel. But go to Tangles, first and foremost, for the expertise. You will be so happy you did!

Had to find a new salon when we moved to Pasadena and since I have typically done the «wheel of hair cutters» at Supercuts in the past (you get whomever cuts hair the fastest with a wide range of outcomes), had no compunction picking the salon closest to where I now lived which happened to be Tangles.
I was assigned Bri, and when she asked how short I wanted my hair I blurted out a vague memory of the level of the blades at my last cut, «2 on the side and 4 on the top» I think I said… after she had been cutting for a few minutes and remarking over and over again that my hair «sure grew fast» I realized I had given the wrong settings… I looked like she was preparing me for marine bootcamp… lesson learned… the next time we nailed it.
The fee is reasonable (like $ 35?).Bri is personable… the facility clean and cordial… I have finally upgraded from SuperCuts to a Salon…

This review is 4 years overdue. I met Michelle B. in 2011 and she is till my number one stylist! I get bored of my hair often so when I go in to see her we talk about what I want and don’t want. However, most of the time I have no clue what I want. I have had super short hair, super long hair, layers, no layers, color, no color, bangs, no bangs, you name, she can do it. She is friendly, helpful, caring, and extremely talented. I love her!

I was looking for a new salon to go to and a friend recommended trying this place out for a cut and color. After browsing the website and the stylists Instagram pages I decided to make an appointment with Julie.
Julie was great! She’s so friendly and sweet. I went in for a balayage and a cut. I’ve been to salons (ahem, Glendale!) where it feels like it’s social hour for the stylists, where they take phone calls, have friends visit, etc, but Julie and the rest of the staff were very attentive the entire time and not once did it feel like she forgot about me.
After returning from my visit with Julie I was a little bummed about how dark my hair still was. Julie did a great job but I was hoping for something a little lighter. I reached out to Julie again and she graciously booked another appointment for me. The second time my hair was looking exactly how I wanted.
After testing out countless salons, I am really happy to finally find a salon and stylist I can return to!

I really love this salon. I’ve been going for about 2 years now, after my stylist moved here from another salon. I’m always greeted immediately and made to feel welcome.
The salon is lovely, nicely decorated, and is kept up very well. Also, the owner is really supportive of training and updating techniques for the stylists, which I love.
Parking is sometimes an issue, as it is an any Old Town business, but when I park at a meter, the front desk staff are always kind enough to refill it for me if it’s close to expiring and I’m not done yet. Such a nice and customer-​friendly little touch!

I love my hair! Bri did such an amazing job, I never knew my hair could look so beautiful! I had my natural hair color, last time I dyed my hair was 10 years ago. She made me feel comfortable and was so sweet. She did balayage, and it looks so natural, a good transition for me :) I’m so in love with it!

My hair would be a hideous rat’s nest if it weren’t for Michelle B. This girl keeps my hair on point.
I pretty much let her have carte blanche on my mane and she’s never made me want to shave my head (even when I’ve volunteered to model for a color or cut class, she’ll do her thing to further her education on all things hair, and of it’s not a good fit for my face/​style, she’ll immediately remedy the situation to something even more fabulous). It’s impressive that all these years following her around, she continues to hone her craft and go above and beyond to provide the best service to anyone that sits in her chair.
Whether a simple cut, a drastic ‘do change, or some color tweaks, she’ll hook it up with a look that suits your style!
The salon is great, too! They offer you a beverage upon arrival and will keep an eye on your meter if you park on the street!
