Wine Spectator… High-Flying California Syrah! 2006 is Another Banner Year for Paso Robles and the Golden State Rhôné Reds.
In this month’s issue of the Wine Spectator (March 2009), James Laube writes «California Syrah keeps getting better-and its ranks deeper» and as a Rhôné-style producer, we couldn’t agree more. To prove his point and ours, James put together a list of the newest and hottest «10 Emerging California Rhôné Producers» from the Golden State. Not to our surprise or anyone else’s… the majority of his Rhôné producers were from the Central Coast of California. Three were from Paso Robles, the best AVA on the West Coast to grow Rhôné varietals. Edward Sellers was one of them.
History
Established in 2004.
Edward Sellers is a boutique winery specializing in small lots of handmade American Rhôné-style wines from Paso Robles, California. Although modeled after the great French wines from the Rhôné River Valley in France, our ultra-premium wines speak distinctly of their progressive California Central Coast origins. The Rhôné varietals of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc are carefully handpicked from the finest vineyards found on the calcareous-rich hillsides of Western Paso Robles. Each of these vineyards has been strategically planted in small blocks to maximize the vineyards’ own unique soils, microclimate and character. It is this terroir that produces the finest Rhôné varietals found on California’s Coast.
Combining this exceptional terroir with our approach to winemaking, we are producing an elegant, structured, well balanced wine, with a luscious velvety mouth feel and intense fruit concentration. I know you will enjoy them!
