Paso Robles Inn

Wow. Friendly folks, a beautiful property and food that was top notch. They even had a friwndly shuttle to and from the AMTRAK train station. No reason to stay anywhere else.

Hubby and I both very much enjoyed our stay. Mineral spa hot tub marvelous! Sulfur smell no problem if you add into the water the nice sulfur smell cancellers which are provided. Additional plus — we booked the wine tour package. Well worth the price if you like wine and want to enjoy tasting at 4 or 5 wineries and not have to worry about who is the designated driver. All in all a great little getaway which we will probably repeat in the near future. And p. s. the gardens and landscaped areas are beautiful!

The mineral tub experience was worth the slightly elevated price. However, be aware of the Sulphur like smell that permeates. The room was very nice, very clean and worth doing once. The grounds are beautiful.

A beautiful setting for a wedding! My brother had his wedding reception there. The photos we got in the garden were incredible! The ballroom is spectacular and very fancy. The floor in there is ideal for dancing, as well. Much of my family from out of town stayed there, and they only had good things to say as well.
I also have eaten here on other occasions, and their food is quite scrumptious!

Okay, get the good out of the way first.
Staff was very nice and friendly. Location great to be around the downtown hub of restaurants and tasting shops. Mineral water thing definitely not worth the smell but the shower temp and pressure was good. Gift of the story of the Inn was a nice touch.
Now to the not so good. Old and built long ago, this motel type Inn is so poorly insulated that I heard an ant pissing on cotton in the next room. Every single thing they did we heard, and it was a family of Chinese people trying out every amenity.
The next failure is the linen! How is it possible in this day and age that an «Inn» that charges $ 200 a night has such pathetic bed coverings. The sheets were a 4 thread count that felt like sandpaper on my skin. The blanket (if you want to call it that) was almost see through and the comforter was anything but.
Mix the above with the interior decorating with the ugly window coverings and cheap furnishings and you have the recipe of dissatisfaction. Really didn’t enjoy our stay here for the price tag on a weekday.

This hotel is an absolute gem. In fact, half the reason I’ll travel to Paso Robles is to stay at this historic inn; the other half is to go wine tasting. The first reason to stay here is that you can draw hot mineral spring water to a tub on your private patio! I’m absolutely astounded how under appreciated this is in the USA. In Japan, bathing in hot spring water is the purpose of the vacation and something everyone loves to do. Here in California I can only think of four places that offer this luxury and am astounded that these places aren’t permanently sold out and twice as expensive!
Secondly this place is downright charming. I always like to stay at places with a bit if history and character. This place has so much history that they even give you a wonderful hardback book as a gift which I found so fascinating that I ended up reading it all in one sitting. I really like that they have fireplaces in the rooms — nothing creates a feeling of comfort more than a nice fireplace which you’re not going to find at a Days Inn or any other McHotel.
As for the smell of sulfur, I’d pay extra for it; this is how I know the water is the real deal and they’re not just feeding baths with heated city water. For all the complaints about the sulfur smell I say that is like opening a 94 point Burgundy and complaining that there is too much barnyard in the bouquet. Get over it, you’ve got something grand!
In closing, I absolutely adore this hotel and refuse to stay anywhere else when I come to Paso Robles. It makes me a little sad at how under appreciated it is but on the other hand I really hope they do not get too popular so the prices stay reasonable and I can get a room.
I’m betting however that with the new bathing facility they speak of building that this hotel is going to enjoy a very profitable future.

I was in Paso Robles on business, and once it was confirmed I was staying overnight, I looked at both the Hotels Tonight app on my phone, and
. I found this hotel in the same price range as the Holiday Inn Express and less expensive than La Quinta and other comparable hotels, yet the reviews on the apps by guests were very high, 4.6÷5.0. I called the hotel directly, but the rate was exactly the same so I booked through
so I could get the room/​travel credit.
Upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the location (very central to downtown Paso Robles), but the ambiance of the hotel as well… somewhat rustic and older, but definitely classic and classy! I was quite surprised to find a very nice steakhouse on the premises and a warm and welcoming lobby! I met another traveling couple in the lobby who were very friendly, and we were all speaking with the desk clerk, Danielle as they were being assisted and I was waiting. Danielle was extremely pleasant and accommodating! I had initially been assigned an upstairs room, and I requested a downstairs room due to my back problem and items I would be carrying into the room. Danielle gave me room 603… this property is broken up into several buildings with courtyards, a koi pond, etc. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and rustic! Mind you, this isn’t a «luxury» hotel like you would stay in while visiting Las Vegas or San Francisco, but this hotel is classic, clean and fits in perfectly in the Central Coast Wine Country!
My room was cute… enough room to walk around, a tale and chairs, nice flat screen TV, comfortable bathroom and a fireplace! The bed was very comfortable and the room extremely clean! The only «dated» item was the wall air conditioning (which I didn’t use this time of year).
I would definitely recommend this hotel while traveling either for business, or while spending a weekend in the Central Coast Wine Country! Great location, excellent & friendly service, and beautiful grounds with nice, functional rooms. For the price, it’s so much more than some of the bigger chains!

This motel is admittedly in a *fantastic* location. 5 stars for location, no doubt. Walking distance to the square, multiple restaurants, movie theatre, wine tasting, great coffee (shout out to Spearhead — excellent espresso! Slow service but friendly). Location can not be beat.
However, the Inn overall was less exciting. Very plain, very small rooms. Literally 1 foot walking room around the bed: left end table and doorway to bathroom/​hall; foot of bed had the bureau and TV atop; right side with end table and small sitting table. That was the entire room and was horribly tiny. Absolutely no place to put belongings! We barely had enough floor space to put a couple cases of wine we bought during the week.
Bathroom was under developed. No towel racks, not even for the hand towel. No shelves. No art (I’m not looking for Picasso here; just a simple photo or two in either bathroom or main room would have been nice). Ceiling air vent not working well, filling the room with humidity.
Room just plain and boring. Little open space to right of fridge in front of mirrored closet was just, well, empty. Should have had a shelf or something functional.
Despite having a fireplace in the room (gas, operated by switch), it was the only heating option for the room. So if you want heat at night, you have to have a bright fireplace running. Additionally, it did not actually turn on when the room temperature dropped significantly below the set heat. For example, it was very cold outside this week (32degrees, below freezing!). I went to bed leaving the heater set for 64 degrees. Woke up shivering with the room at 56 degrees, with the heater aka fireplace just not turning on. Had to shift the switch to Off, then back to Set/​On for it to turn on.
Hot tub nice, and heated pool was fantastic. Towels stocked in the pool area all the time. They do boot you out immediately at 10pm though, which is a bit early.
I’d not stay here again.

This is a great hotel, if and only if you get a spa room. It goes from a 2-​star to a 4-​star when you have a tub on the balcony. We had the most amazing time when we upgraded our room and got to experience the hot springs. It’s also in the best location, walking distance to the main downtown area. And by walking distance, I mean across the street. Great hotel, but make sure to upgrade yourself if you want a 4-​star experience.

My wife and I arrived in Paso Robles around 4pm one afternoon. We had a reservation at a chain motel but stopped to walk around downtown before checking in. We enjoyed the area and commented on several great-​looking restaurants to have dinner. As we finished circling around we noticed the Paso Robles Inn. It looked like a great spot and my chain hotel reservation was still cancelable so I went inside to inquire about a room and walked out five minutes later with a $ 159/​night «deluxe» room with it’s own sulphur spring hot tub. I quickly cancelled my generic chain hotel room.
Our room here was awesome. Large, comfortable, huge bathroom, private patio with hot tub, comfy bed, fireplace, plenty of room.
Extra credit because the bathroom heater/​fan cranked and the room was warm and toasty when I took a shower.
I was suprised to see the 3 star average here but I think that had a lot to do with the price. We got an offseason deal and it seemed very worth it. Not sure how much I’d like it for almost $ 300/​night in the summer.
We’ll definitely stay here again next time we’re in town.

Beautiful grounds, great location and a decent price for Paso but I was expecting just a bit more. The main draw for me was our dog friendly room. I was dissapointed to find that there were absolutely no dog ammenities provided for my dog. I thought I read somewhere that they provide bowls and a bed but there was none of this when we arrived. Our room was clean but small and in need of an upgrade. The sauna was nice but they cut the heat off on a slightly misty morning. I did enjoy the upstairs bar. Overall, the pictures on the website show how beautiful the grounds are, but in no way are reflective of the rooms. Great location on the square and may reconsider in the future for that reason.

A good friend of ours recommended this place as an ideal location for our wine touring vacation. She was right. It is ideal. So convenient to pretty much everything including being walkable to a host of great restaurants, city park, tasting rooms, etc. I wasn’t prepared for the garden however. It is spectacular! I didn’t expect that! Such a beautiful, peaceful space with tons of greenery, lounge rockers, huge trees… it is amazing! And so well manicured! Sitting on the balcony overlooking this space was a treat and something we did every day, usually with a bottle of wine.
Despite a minor hiccup at check in, which Chelsea resolved by putting us in the Troublemaker suite (hmmmm?), this was a totally enjoyable experience. The room was gorgeous, the bathroom huge with granite countertops, double sinks, fridge, microwave, wine glasses, large flat screen tv, and the amazing balcony complete with hot tub, we felt very much at home here. Sure, there was a sulphur smell that at times was pretty strong. But inside the room the AC pretty much took care of that. We did have some issues with the wifi but that is not uncommon no matter where you go. Maid service was prompt and efficient, staff was friendly, and the accommodations were excellent.
If your plans call for you to be in the Paso area, you should definitely give Paso Robles Inn a try. I think you’ll love it.

Outstanding walkable location to all of downtown Paso Robles with beautiful outdoor garden space perfect for relaxing or enjoying a bottle of wine complete with a babbling brook and comfortable lounge rockers.
Many thanks to management for turning a room issue at checkin with a very broken king bed into a positive with a great room upgrade to a gorgeous fireplace winery themed suite that we thoroughly enjoyed! The balcony overlooking the beautiful grounds and the room was very comfortable and well appointed. Personally I didn’t find appeal in the sulphur hot springs water for the outdoor jacuzzi. That aroma isn’t for me!
Kudos to the maintenance guys who not only showed up within 5 minutes to fix a broken light bulb but were also kind enough to help me pop a cork on a stubborn wine bottle! Great service from the restaurant, as well. Wi-​fi service was spotty and could use an upgrade.
Overall I’d stay here again and would definitely recommend the winery themed suites!

This historic hotel is right downtown, steps from everything in Paso Robles – park filled with oaks and fallen acorns for the kids to collect, restaurants, shops, and tasting rooms. We’ve stayed in a hotel on the other side of Paso Robles before, and staying in a strip mall is really not worth saving the extra bucks.
And this hotel is awesome! It is from the 1880s, and it has beautiful grounds. My son loved the coi ponds and bridges. He and my husband had a nap-​inducing rest in the swinging lounge chair. Our room was quiet.
I don’t understand the other low reviews. The other options in town are seedy-​looking motels nearby or generic ones off the freeway. If you are staying in Paso Robles for more than a night, this is your best bet.

We stayed in one of the expensive dog-​friendly garden view rooms. Yes, the garden is pretty and smells like sulfur. The room is no different from any chain hotel costing half as much. It’s relatively clean, relatively quiet, is very small, has a wobbly mattress, and a tub/​shower combo. There’s a sealed gas fireplace for the winter time. For the summer, we had an A/​C that was shaking loudly and throwing chunks of filth onto the floor as they broke free of the fan blades. Maintenance seemed upset that we called them twice about it and did not want to clean it. The sulfur smell from nearby private hot tubs does get a bit strong without working A/​C. The bathroom was very clean but had no soap holder for the tub, no clothesline for swimware, and no racks for bath towels. Dog amenities were included with the pet fee but we already had these.
The shared pool and hot tub were badly worn but looked and smelled clean. It should be noted that only the private tubs have the mineral water. Shared pools are normal water. Garden furniture was clean.
The restaurant has decent food but service could have been better. My «medium well» steak was very well done in the middle and deeply charred at the edges. I was told that it was exactly «medium well» but I could have a new one that was «medium.» Really? Just do it over without pretending that it’s my fault.
Cut the price in half and it’s a nice place. There’s nothing to justify $ 269/​night.

Cute grounds with koi ponds. The swings are also a nice addition. Heated pool. Mineral tub on balcony was nice, and they give you scented bubbles to use if the surfer smell bothers you. Located in downtown PR, so there are a couple of places to walk to for lunch or dinner if you don’t want to eat at the hotel restaurant. This isn’t a full service hotel though– if you need something from the front desk they may ask you to come get it (we needed spoons). They don’t start serving breakfast until 7, so if you’re a really early riser then bring a snack to hold you over til 7am when they start serving. This place is great if you kind of just want to relax in the tubs because that’s basically what you’re paying for.

Didn’t see cockroaches as claimed by others. We were near the pool. Friendly staff. Lobby filled with free air freshener for the car. The bathroom was clean and has makeup wipes. The place is welcoming but my husband can’t sleep due to foam pillows. Please provide feather pillows. WiFi is good, make sure you get the secure not the open connection. Overall the visit was ok but could be better.

This place is disgusting!!! Turn away and never look back… They are infested with COCKROACHES!!! When I told them they were apologetic and gave us a $ 50 dollar discount off a $ 300+ room. That is still not worth sleeping with cockroaches. Please save yourself and stay at the Marriot just down the street.

Roaches! In the hotel room. Creeping around at night. WTH? Over $ 300 a night for roaches! The manager wouldn’t talk & sent the front desk clerk. Gave us 15% off & wouldn’t even come out from the office. I’m thinking this must be pretty standard.
15% for Roaches! I’ve visited at least a dozen times & never been subjected to such horrible standards.
Shame on you Paso Inn… Shame.

I ain’t afraid of no ghost! Okay yes I am. I woke up in the middle of the night and had to turn on the TV because I was getting scared that I was going to have a close encounter of the crap my pants kind.
If you don’t know what I am talking about THIS PLACE IS HAUNTED okay maybe that’s not a real thing but that is what people like to say about it.
I came here for a work offsite for a couple of days. The rooms are pretty large. The smell of sulfur is pretty noticeable. And the map of the parking lot is still in my car for some reason.
I’m going to go pull that out and throw it away now. I just need to be careful because it is in the back seat and my back seat is pretty small, like, there’s no way you would try to be intimate with someone in the back seat kind of small. And I just hurt my back at the gym the other day, so when I have to reach back there to get the map out I am afraid that the tight space might cause me to contort in a way that might strain my already strained back. On second thought, I will leave the map until I am well enough to retrieve it.
The ghost would have wanted it this way, I bet. The ghost has won this round and I am okay with that, mostly because the ghost lost in the most important round. You know, by dying.
Ha ha. I am still alive! What do you have to say about that? Nothing. Of course. Because you are 300 miles away and I’m not afraid of you anymore PS please don’t find me and haunt me I secretly respect you for real.
PPS at some point I will die and this review will need to be updated because it will no longer be true. I wonder if Unilocal has a plan for that.
