History

Established in 1929.

Mayers Flower Cottage roots go back to a cut flower greenhouse operation started by Joseph Mayer in 1929 selling flowers to the New York flower market. As the business developed there was a need to better serve our customers by opening a retail flower shop in the early 1960’s so Joseph’s sons Richard & Robert opened Mayer’s Flower Cottage. Years have gone by and today the store is owned by Jeffrey & Lynda Mayer who together with their design team lead by Debbie & Stephanie continue to deliver the quality service our customers have grown to expect.

Business Owner

Jeff grew up in the family business who got his first pay at age 5 helping to pick field flowers. As he grew he continued learning the business then went on to Cornell University and earned a BS degree in commercial floriculture. After graduating he spent a year in Europe working at several growing ranges. Upon his return he took a position at SUNY Farmingdale teaching Horticulture, helping with the family business and starting his own field grown cut flower farm. Eventually he became a partner in Mayer’s Flower Cottage. During this time he remained active in the floral industry serving as President of L I Cut Flower Association & as a National Director of F T D
