Fattal’s Syrian Bakery

What can i say? Amazing in all aspects, love their pies, try the Spinach and cheese one. Love how the prices are lower than NY, love that everything is fresh and the delightful smile from young girls at the cashier. The nuts and coffee and meat collection is wonderful. Remember that their prepared food has no preservatives so the hummus is mot a sabra hummus, eat it soon or it will go bad. Love this place

Fattal’s description of itself as a bakery is a bit incomplete since while the main store did have some traditional middle eastern sweets in a bakery counter, together with a selection of nougat by the pound and some stuffed grape leaves that were on the decidedly dry side, they also had fresh meats, a small freezer section and a couple of aisles of dry goods. In the rear there is a separate vendor (with his own cash register) selling savories, including spinach pies, meat pies and hummus to go or stay (there are several tables); it isn’t the most extensive selection, but as with the rest of the store we found the staff friendly. We didn’t have opportunity to deal with the vendor who runs a jewelry counter (in a bakery?) in the middle of the store! However, in busy downtown Patterson we appreciated that they not only had a small parking lot, but also had a gentleman there to direct traffic. Some other middle eastern groceries have more diverse products – particularly fresh baked goods, and the only real bargain we encountered were the olives by the pound, but if in the neighborhood we’ll stop back.

When you step inside Fattal’s, you feel like your taking a trip into an international souk … there’s something in the market for everyone: jewelry, food, meat shop, freshly baked pita, desserts, teas, snacks … you name it! We stopped here for some sandwiches and were so delighted that we did. The sandwich shop is located at the far end of the shop, has enough seating for a few friends: good variety of middle eastern delights … was splendidly tasty and the meat was fresh — it is I think the only eatery in the arabic section of main street to have a meat shop inside, so you are guaranteed fresh meats in your food. Also not only is the meat fresh but Fattal is known /​famous for their outstanding pita breads … remember having their pita as a kid in the 80’s, so tasty, soft, fresh. Great food, awesome variety in authentic middle eastern cuisine: you can not go wrong! Another great thing is that unlike all the other eatery’s on the street this has their own private lot with ample parking. If your in the area would highly recommend stopping by and stepping into a truly international market.

This feedback is on the prepared food only, Even though I shop for groceries there, And like it. I will never eat thier prepared food again EVER. They would rather put chunks of fat the size of dimes in the sharwama. I literally bought 46 dollars worth of the sharwama, just to throw it out …THE FOOD IS HORRENDOUS…

I recently returned from Jordan and I’ve been craving specific Middle Eastern Teas, coffee and food. This bakery has everything! I was pleasantly surprised that the same coffee, oil, teas and spices I had Jordan… I can now get in NJ! I love this place! They have EVERYTHING!

great selection of cheeses, olive oils, mezzes, dry goods and various products from Syria and the surrounding areas. We ordered a wonderful hummus, homemade grape leaves, and baklavas. Yummy.

Great place that reflects this polyglot area of NNJ coexisting together as neighbors. Some notables: Syrian baked goods, rose and saffron paludeh (Iranian ice cream dessert), Turkish fruit soda, Greek baklava, feta cheeses, Russian teacakes, tahini sauce from SA, kibbe (meat nut grain pie), apricot rolls, sticky medjhool dates, many olive oils, hard to find spices, rose water, pomegranate sauce, flavored kefir (drinkable yogurt), a wide variety of teas and even jewelry! All with Fairouz (Lebanese singer) playing over the store radio. Multiculturalism at its finest. There is a seated area for hot meals and a large parking lot for cars.

I’m not in NJ often but when I am, my friend takes me to the most amazing places. This place is no exception. Had an amazing lamb platter that I’ll never forget. Plus they’ve got so many unique products. Don’t miss a visit here.

I’ve been there a number of times with my father and we keep coming back. The food is good and not too expensive either, nice place to have a good lunch.

Purchased lamb liver last week 2lbs $ 12
And when I opened the package at home found out there was more than a lb of fat tucked under the meat. This is so wrong

I’ve only been here a handful of times but so far from what I’ve seen it looks like a good place. They have a huge variety of foods and other stuff which is nice.
I bought some of the sweets for the first time today. I got some of the «bird’s nest» sweets and found STRINGS OF HAIR in 2 of them! I didn’t see anything wrong with the other sweets I got but I’m just glad I bought them for my house and not for guests like I had planned.
Makes me rethink buying the open sweets again but I’ll definitely check out more of the store another time.

I’ve been there a couple of times and gave it 5 stars, but last Saturday I took some friends from overseas there and I was disappointed in the food. The service is wonderful but the shawarma was tough and needed some seasoning or salt. The lejmehmajin had no flavor, the zetu zataar was dry and like sand and the kidbeh was missing something.
What saved us the spinach pies, almost as good as my grandma’s and the olive bar, and the sweets.

I want to this place about a year ago. Great lamb gyro! They have so many different items in the store. Would definitely go back.

First things first: everyone that works here is friendly and eager to help.
Now, about that food…
There are many fantastic items on offer from Fattal’s. I find myself unable to leave without grabbing some kibbi, feta, houmos, pickled beets, or olives just to have in the house. The spinach pies may possibly have crack in them, and I don’t care a bit.
The sweets are delectable. The halva and the baclava should be a moral imperative for anyone who worships at the altar of dessert.
But what truly brings me back time and again is the pita. They must sell these by the truck load, because I have never once walked in when they weren’t still so recently out of the oven that the inside of the bag had fogged from the steam. These soft, round, brown lovelies are absolutely delicious, and perfectly good just by themselves.
Confession: I never make it home without breaking into the bag and devouring at least two.
Really, neither will you.

Love this place but the parking lot is always so packed. Fresh bakery indeed! Bread, meats, everything is so yummy!

Clean Well Stocked Very Friendly
I haven’t been shopping in this area in over ten years, after some great advice from a local Unilocaler Chuck A. my son (who has Syrian blood on his mothers side) and I took a quick drive to have some authentic Syrian food at Aleppo. After a great meal we took a walk down Main Street to check things out, stopped in a few shops and came across Fattal’s Syrian Bakery. I had totally forgotten about this great ethnic market, excited my son and I walked in the front doors which opened up into another world of culture & cuisine.
The store has a excellent selection of products (many Halal) including a bakery, eat in café, butcher and a jewelry shop giving it that Bazaar atmosphere. Well organized and clean we easily navigated our way around stopping and frequently thinking «I can’t believe they have this». After thirty minutes or so we walked to the check out area arms full of ethnic goodness. The check out guy was great, we chatted as he smiled and made small talk with us, refreshing.
I choose Halal whenever available most notably for meat as by Islamic Law Halal requires that: «Animals are consistently treated with mercy and respect and will be blessed with the name of God (Allah) prior to slaughter». This is a practice that is in keeping with my belief that animals should live and eat like they would naturally before being slaughter by the most humane methods possible.
Very happy to have rediscovered this area with it’s decidedly Middle Eastern shops and restaurants.

Gold and Halal meat.
If you ever wanted to complete all your shopping in one place — Fattal’s would be the place. Where else would you find a jewelry shop, meat shop, bakery, grocery store, general store, restaurant, and pastry shop all rolled into one? Upon walking into the bakery (how on earth did they choose to call themselves a bakery, of all the many options available to them?) I was amused to see women buying earrings while kids and couples were eating Lahmajeen and Shawarma. The store had all kinds of packaged goods originating or popular in the Middle East: from pita bread to olive oil, spices to hookahs…
I stopped by the pastry section and got some Baklava, Beloria, Harissa and some Ghraybeh cookies. The Harissa (Semolina and Honey cake) was dry, as was the Beloria (stringy dough crust filled with Pistachio). The Baklava only interested me from the point of construction as apparently a Syrian baklava is tilted more towards the nutty side as opposed to syrup or dough. So, visualizing a piece of baklava split up into 8 equal sections, the version at Fattal’s would only have two-​eighths dedicated to the pastry dough and the remaining six-​eighths to nuts. A nearby Turkish version would instead reverse the ratio and have less than two-​eighths for nuts, while a nearby Palestinian one would fall in-​between but have less layers of dough than the Turkish version.
My rating only reflects an evaluation of their pastry and cookies section, for to me life is more interesting than the math problems in high school that intended to develop the skill of figuring out the volume of substance needed to fill a container with defined dimensions. Clearly they have a lot to offer their many loyal customers, given the volume of cars that occupy their dedicated parking lot.

So not only is this place a bakery, but its a mini-​supermarket, mini jewelry shop, meat store, and my favorite component: an eaterie!
A very popular one actually. We were there Saturday for a brief pick-​me-​up lunch and we ordered basic chicken shawerma and spinach and cheese patty. the shawerma with some added spices was incredible!
Their falafel is fresh, their tabouli is constantly being moved off the shelf to be served on to-​go platters and for eat-​ins…
Their lamb gyro is great too because it didnt have all that crazy fat that some NY places have it, it was fresh lamb and it was tasty (and I am not a huge fan of lamb) but this was great!
