I can’t rave enough. I love the intimacy of this theatre from the lobby to the people to the performance space. Every show is an artistic gem — costuming, lighting, acting, set design — it all.
There’s often younger or up-​and-​coming actors that never cease to amaze me. And the mix of seasoned veterans with a more raw /​edgy set of actors brings such energy & current to the shows.
Happy to go back & back & back again.
This is a small, black box performance space. 100 seats or less. They are chairs with arms, as opposed to traditional theatre seats. The front row is often nearly on the stage. You’re engaged from the beginning all the way to the end.

What a great way to start season 31 at the Gamm! Saw A Streetcar Named Desire last night. Marianna Bassham as Blanche was amazing as was the rest of the cast, Karen Carpenter, Steven Kidd, Wendy Overly and Anthony Goes to name a few! The Gamm is so gifted with such amazing talent that it’s possible to have this tremendous cast and still be thinking about other fantastic members of the company that weren’t even in the show. RI is truly blessed to have this great gem. Under the artistic direction of Tony Estrella this theater has become my favorite in the state! I can’t wait to see the next one! Thank you Gamm Theater!

I like Trinity. I love the Gamm.
Edgy. Bold. Top caliber acting. Intimate space. Intrigue of space inside the old Pawtucket Armory.
They are not afraid to tackle new works and re-​interpret classics. Overall the works are a bit darker than other area stages. I am still haunted by Festen, 1984, Red, and others. But if we go to the theater to be moved and explore the complex spectrum of human emotion, then consider me moved.
It’s a very special place. The perfect balance of small/​intimate/​community + performance of the highest quality.
If you haven’t yet seen a show there, you simply must.

Everyone is super friendly and a lovely little theatre. Too many seats very close together however. Spent $ 49 to see Morality Play. I was squished. I am big and needed the extra space. Good mixture of audience even though I was next to a sleeping elderly woman.
The acting was quite good and was entertaining.
Left during intermission because of the tightness. I would go back however maybe try and pick a seat strategically.

We saw MacBeth here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was superb and the sets, costumes, staging, production, everything was beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever been transported into another world the way I was watching MacBeth at the Gamm Theatre. When those ghosts showed up, I was legit scared and clinging onto my husband’s arm. What a memorable and beautiful night! Thanks, Gamm.

For the last three years I have seen almost every production that this theatre has done. I will say this: I may not agree with the choice of shows, however the acting is always incredibly professional. Also I would like to mention that the set design has always been amazing, and I’m not sure how, but they can even change the seats around to fit what the space calls for. There is a reason why I consider this the top theatre in Rhode Island.

The Gamm is a truly special place. They deliver high-​quality, thought-​provoking plays in an intimate setting. Each season is put together with great care. They’re not afraid to tackle newer works or to challenge their audience. Every detail of each production is done to the T, from sets, to costumes, even the pre-​show music. I love much of what I see there, and respect/​enjoy the rest!
Tip: Bring cash so you can treat yourself to one of their rotating selection of yummy, homemade cookies during intermission!

It’s small, it’s quaint, and it’s inexpensive. What more could you want?
I’ve seen a number of shows here and chaperoned a field trip here and always have a really positive experience. The talent is amazing, the staff is professional and helpful, and it’s a very intimate theater experience.
I’ve seen Romeo and Juliet, Paul, 1984, A Child’s Christmas in Wales, and a handful of others. They were all well done, and a pleasant experience.
Bring cash, as they boast a modest selection of wine and local beers.

I’ve seen three shows at The Gamm now and I am hooked. First production I saw was the Santaland Diaries, obviously based on the David Sedaris essay, that was just a one-​man show. It was fantastic, hilarious, I was in pain from laughing by the end.
The 2012 season so far I’ve seen Boom, which was very funny and very well done, but didn’t necessarily blow me away and 1984, which was amazing.
I should have re-​read 1984 before seeing the show, but I didn’t and I still remembered it well enough from high school to appreciate the subtler moments. I just cannot say enough good about that play though. It was easily the most intricate show I’ve ever seen, with the four actors playing dozens of smaller parts, but there was never a moment’s confusion as to who was who or what was going on.
The sets are always flawless. In such a small space, I don’t know how they manage to make so many changes each time, but it’s always a whole new experience.
The staff and volunteers are friendly and happy to help.
The bathroom is always clean.
My only complaint is a very small one, and that is that the chairs get a bit uncomfortable after a long show, but because it’s so small, there are no bad seats. It’s a trade off.
I’m probably going to buy season tickets, so I’ll see you there.

I was recently able to go see the Gamm Theatre’s production of Hamlet, and I was absolutely blown away. This is not the kind of top-​flight stuff you’d expect to see in this setting. The set design was a genius work of simplicity, the kind of setting that seems deceptively low-​key but ends up practically playing a role of its own — especially in the final act!
If you read this in time to see the 2011 Gamm production of Hamlet, GO. If it’s too late, be a little sad, but mostly be glad that the Gamm exists, and it is there for you and me to see outstanding performances in an unorthodox space right here in the (Greater) PVD (area).

Great small place. I went with my class to see a doll’s house and it was pretty good. The actors did a great job on there parts.

I agree, top notch acting. This small (affordable) theatre is a gem! Went to see Hawthorne’s Scarlett Letter in June 09 (my first time there). Loved the way it was adapted, very creative yet it did not lose the feel of the book. Intimate set and seating. Would love to go again

A great theatre that despite it’s small size takes on projects that bigger, more established theatres shy away from. The acting has been top notch at every play i’ve attended and the layout of the theatre has you right on top of the actors… all the better to appreciate the subtle nuances of the performances. If you are looking for a quality and inexpensive night out at the theatre, this is the spot.
