Granny’s in Payson

Lovely place, the new owner is friendly and everyone was so kind. Well spaced out. No clutter, no junk, some craftsmanship items. Worth a visit.

So i guess this will be the first negative review from a Payson resident. There are many antique stores in Payson but i can’t say that i have been bowled over by any of them like the big ones down in the Valley. They are for the most part quick visits due to the size of the places. I guess i’m just spoiled by the larger ones. One exception was Granny’s Attic which was the only one i bothered returning to on a few subsequent visits. I haven’t returned for several months and now thanks to a few recent negative reviews i’ll never return again. It was a nice quaint little store which is the only positive thing that i can say about it. Oh well.

I must say the owner of this place is out of control, she is the rudest person I have ever meet in my life, she also allows a dogs that bites run around her store. My 7 year old granddaughter was chased by this dog until we decided to leave only minutes after arriving. So don’t go here and expect the usual relaxing experience of an antique shop.
For the short time we were there most of the stuff was modern junk and not antiques. Its a shame this place use to be nice. WOULD NO LONG RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. AS ANOTHER Unilocal SAY BUYERS BEWARE.

Let the buyer beware in this store!
I recently dropped in and browsed the place on my way to California. A folding pruning knife in one of the cases caught my interest. Attached was a label that read: «Old cowboy knife made by the Monumental Knife Company, in business from 1873 to 1884.» The price was $ 55.00.
As a collector of Old West artifacts and a history buff, an item such as this, with a dateable 19^th Century time frame and rare manufacturer, was very appealing.
I tried to verify the information on the label by attempting to read the tiny, faded manufacturer’s imprint at the base of the blade, but the condition was so poor it was impossible to do with the naked eye, and the dealer was not at home to answer the call. However, with the assurance of the store owner that this was a very experienced and knowledgeable dealer, I made the mistake of trusting the label information.
Upon arriving home, I examined the imprint under 60x magnification, and found that the manufacturer was Montgomery Ward and Co.(which has been making these knives from 1872 all the way up until the present), not Monumental.
I finally was able to contact the dealer, who honorably offered to take the knife back. However, the store owner claimed that I should know my antiques and in any event, all sales are final, so too bad.
I think some kind of accommodation could have been worked out based on the fact that incorrect information was supplied, but I guess I’ll just have to settle for having learned an expensive lesson.

What, no reviews ! WTH ! Ok so this place is nice. I mean, I am no antique store expert but i will tell you what, it was clean as a whistle, everything was well organized, the staff was extremely helpful and she was very very nice. Things she knew about she would tell us, the stuff she did not, she would not fib about. She was a very sweet older lady and honestly seemed like she just belonged there !
They had a good selection of merchandise and we wound up buying a few cuff links and the knick-​knacks. They are right across from the Fritz 260 café and are well worth spending a few minutes at.
