Dive Zone Scuba

I first went to tgis dive shop to get my daughter certified. I and my daughter had a great experience. She got her open water license quickly and professionally. Went there last week to get some new straps for a pair of fins for my dad. They carried them and they we very reasonably priced. I will have them train my other kids as well when they get older.

The Best Local Dive Shop in the Houston area. Have done all of my Advanced Certifications with Dive Zone Scuba and they were excellent. Oh by the way! Most of the Equipment that I used during my training is the ones that they sell (Which means they don’t deal with Cheap stuffs).
Also, they go offshore almost every week out in the Gulf. (Which is a spectacular Site and great place for new /​amateur divers to get the true taste of Salt water Diving.)
And when it comes to advising, Chris and Tanya have a great deal of Experience behind them.

I’ve gone here three times hoping each would be better, but each times it gets worse. Even though I literally live 30 seconds away, I will be going to Houston if I need a dive shop.
The first thing you notice when walking in is the horrid pet store smell, which I’m guessing comes from the birds that in cages.
Once you get over that, you wonder how they can run a business due to their lack of organization. It looks similar to one of those houses on the TV show «Hoarders».
The lady that works there is VERY nice, has always been helpful, and is the only reason why I’m giving two stars. However, the man always seems to be in a bad mood and seems to be inconvenienced that you asked a question.

DO NOT GO HERE! Unilocal will not let me post this without giving any stars but they do not deserve the one star I was required to select. I bought a Living Social deal listed for scuba lessons with a lifetime scuba certification to 60 ft. It also says it must be completed within 6 days of start date. I scheduled my class (m, w in class) (Thursday in pool, Saturday, Sunday in lake) which is all the same week. I live about 45 minutes from the dive shop. I took the class Monday and Wednesday. At the end of Wednesday’s class they fitted us for scuba gear and have us directions to get to the pool for the next day at 5pm. On Thursday at 4:30 pm when I was already almost at the pool, I received a call from shop owner saying that the pool is rented out for a private party and we’d have to reschedule the entire rest of my diving days. I set it for the very next week. I called to ask about something else during the earlier part of the week and mentioned that I’d see her Thursday. She said again, that the pool would be closed but she would set it up for us to dive at a friend’s pool. I called again to confirm the day before, and she said that the friend’s pool was not an option and I would have to reschedule. She told me to call anytime I wanted to and tell them I’d be there. It took me two months to finally work out a diving schedule.
They did manage to bring my gear to the pool and that went fine. That Saturday I get to the lake and was required to pay $ 15 entry fee (this was charged both days.) Also as I was leaving Saturday they told me not to forget to bring the required $ 60 the next day to pay for the rental of the gear. None of these things were mentioned in advance and the deal says with certification. It became clear to me that I would not receive my certification without paying the extra $ 90. I think that this deal was a huge ripoff, what started out as $ 199 ended up being $ 289. I’m sure living social saw none of the extra money they pilfered from all of us that bought vouchers and they pocketed the whole fee (except for maybe the lake entry.)
I am extremely disappointed and feel deceived. Not to mention the whole shop was filty and I will never return to this place. The male owner was also extremely rude. If I struggled even slightly while diving, instead of offering help, he would write down insults on his underwater pad. The whole experience was horrible. Do not take the female’s word for anything because she’ll promise you anything and then her husband will just turn around and contradict it. Get EVERYTHING in writing, though still I doubt that will help.
It is a shame that now I have to find a new place if I ever want to utilize my certification for more dive training or events. I realize that sometimes you get what you pay for with vouchers, but the whole aesthetic of the shop and complete lack of customer service seems constant.

Ok read the comments below and then mine for an objective Unilocal review. I’m a huge fan of Unilocal,it never steers me wrong and I want to set the record straight.

2 there are many dedicated customers, I see them come in and out
3 yes, the place could use some polish and filing but that does not distract from the quality of teaching and equipment.
Sure, It’s not organized the way I would have done it but some people don’t like their eggs dry and rubbery and steaks bloody like me.
Bottom line, you get safe and competent training here and when it comes time for me to buy equipment ill start my shopping here

The owners are very passionate and friendly. Unfortunately their shop is a train wreck, smells awful, and again is a complete mess.

OMG! This shop is absolutely DISGUSTING! I stopped in to purchase a new wetsuit, mask and snorkel. This shop was sooo unorganized it looked like a bomb went off in there. There was food, boxes and trash everywhere. Nothing was orgainized on the walls, everything was threwn about on the floor. Relucantly, I was given a wetsuit and told to try it on in the restroom. My mother had to wait in the storage area for me. Inside the restroom, the trashcans were overflowing, it stuck, the carpet, mirrors and sink were filthy. I got the wetsuit on and turned around as saw a large pair of women’s underwear, complete with a bloody kotex just laid out on a pile of magazines!!! I COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE WETSUIT FAST ENOUGH! I WAS THOUROGHLY DISGUSTED AND TOLD MY MOTHER TO COME LOOK AT IT! We got the heeby jeebies and hightailed it out of there telling the owner that we were grossed out and he really needed to get his act together if he wanted to run a business in Pearland. I, too am a Pearland business owner and I would be ashamed of myself if this was my business. I will drive to Sugar Land to make my purchases!

Very professional owners/​instructors. They have a few decades of experience between them so I feel extremely comfortable with their instruction. They have all of that real word experience that pays dividends after you start going out on your own. Thoroughly impressed.
