Business Owner

Dr. Mike Kesner grew up in Sugar Land, and is the founder and owner of Made Ya Smile Dental. He has been practicing dentistry in the Sugar Land area since 1984.

Dr. Kesner received his undergraduate degree from Houston Baptist University in 1980 with a double major in Biology and Chemistry. He received his DDS degree in 1984 from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the International Association for Orthodontics, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management.

Dr. Kesner is a faculty member for the DenMat Corp., the inventor and manufacture of Lumineers. He lectures nationally to dentists on the cosmetic dentistry and the Lumineer procedures. He also teaches «over-​the-​shoulder» Lumineer placement courses in his office to dentists from around the nation. Dr. Kesner has been named the «#1 Lumineers dentist» by the DenMat Corp.

Hi everyone,
I have been a patient in this clinic since 2014 and there has been an issue almost every time I visited them with the administrative staff. I did not want to change them since I was happy with my hygienist over there.
However, the last two procedures I had were complete failures. I had a crown on my left side and a filling in my front tooth. I could not use the side the crown was on for three weeks and I was trying to be patient thinking the tooth is still sensitive. When I was checked on by another technician — yes, it is always the technicians who do the majority of the work there– I was told the crown was high and I should have been checked upon. Plus, when I talked about the problem to the dentist, she told me she trusts her assistants. On top of all these, I was informed by the administrative lady that I was not going to be charged extra for the extra visit even though it was totally their fault.
Another thing I would like to share is I told them I was going to be overseas in three weeks before the procedure. They told me that it was a simple procedure and I was going to be just fine. It cost me $ 1056 after insurance. However, they messed up bot «simple» procedures. I was uncomfortable all throughout my vacation. Also, when I was flossing the filling she did got uncomfortable as well. Now I feel like there is something stuck in between my front teeth all the time. I need to get it fixed again as well.
I feel like that place is only interested in taking your money rather than providing good service to people. If that was not the case, you would be treated by real doctors. I was planning to do invisiline and lumineers with them, I am so glad this happened and saved from bigger troubles.

I wish Unilocal had a zero star rating. This place booked my appointment a week ago and took my insurance information for verification. We come to our appointment, they make us sit and wait for an hour and then tell us they do not accept our insurance.
Who does that?! We were with our four month old baby and an hour in the lobby for nothing really pissed me off.
Word of advise for the facility: if you take info for verification, call and tell customers before they show up, respect you and our time. Also, get some window blinds, your lobby area is like a sauna…

I went to this place a few months back and they were so rude to me the Dentist didn’t even want to talk with me. I was treated like if I had a problem. Oh well I now go to Dental Etc. In Pearland on Business Center Drive and was treated awesome by the staff and the Dentist Mitchel Mai. If your in a practice dealing with patients you need to have ethics and treat people with humanity not like they’re some problem bothering you just a tip.

Had a wonderful and relaxing semi-​annual cleaning at made ya smile dental! Love the hygienists and dentist. They truly care for their patients and their dental health!
Switched dentists as they charged $ 300 for routine cleaning the last time. Yikes!

The following is my personal opinion and interpretation…
My first semi-​annual appointment was not kept by the Made ya Smile team. I gave up and walked out 45 minutes after my appointment time. I eventually made another appointment for the semi-​annual cleaning/​check up and continued using them.
After my first appointment they presented me with a treatment plan of several thousand dollars for repairs to teeth I had no problems. There were some aesthetic things that would cost much more money than I had/​have.
After each cleaning, I felt as though they expected me to purchase additional services. There is a very hard sell, for a medical practice, at this business.
During my most recent appointment, there was the «discovery» of a tooth with a crack. No pain, just a hair line crack and I made an appointment to have a crown installed. When I arrived at the office for my appointment, I made an inquiry concerning the finality of the payment I was going to make. The personnel in the office made it clear that they would not give any assurances that I would not be expected to make additional payment when I returned for the final crown installation.
I just don’t roll that way.
Be very wary of the business practices of this franchise.
I should add that negative reviews are NOT allowed to be posted in the «Reviews» section of the Made ya Smile website.

What the heck. Your office harrassed me with like 5 phone calls to confirm my appointment tomorrow. I work and cannot always answer the phone. Then they finally reach me and the staff is RUDE! They say the number I gave them will not work for them… I am sorry if others have not shown but I was planning to. I will never do business with you again. Very much not happy!!!

Dr. Kessner — Your counter response is STILL not true on all 3 points:
1. This visit and post is still in no way related to my brother in law! I have since seen another dentist — NOT my brother in law — that has confirmed the service was over-​estimated. My brother in law is not even reviewed on Unilocal,so there is no ulterior interest.
2. Your staff had called numerous times over multiple weeks threatening me to remove this post. You state I have not removed it because of my brother in law. I’d like to see your evidence asserting that I did not remove it because of that. It’s not true.
3. I was not on the phone upon engaging in the actual appointment with your hygienist or the dentist. I am educated enough not to sit on a cellular device while an x-​ray is being conducted. Logistically speaking, I’d like to understand how anyone can be talking on the phone while their mouth is being examined. Really?
This post is staying up so consumers are aware of this experience. This is the exact reason why a site like Unilocal exists. I should have seen the litany of reviews for this company before walking into your operations.
