Pies. Wait a minute… PIES! Oh, how I love pies. I bake my own pecan pies, but I cheat and buy the shells. I have total admiration for artists who craft their own crusts, fillings, and then bake them to perfection.
Made From Scratch in bucolic Peninsula attains perfection. At the opening day of the Peninsula Farmers Market, I spied with my little eye Nancy and her table, upon which sat exactly two pies. (We got there kinda late.) One apple, one cherry, both vying for my attention. Apple won. It was tough, making it all the way home without diving fingers-​first into that dish, but we exercised restraint right up to the kitchen. Then, two pieces, without ice cream, vanished. There is nothing on earth better than a freshly-​baked, lovingly crafted and perfectly proportioned pie from Made from Scratch. (One member of our household had her second delicious piece around six this morning, because pie is, after all, «part of a complete breakfast.»)
Quick word of advice: Try to get there before I do next Wednesday. I’m buying her out.
