THEMTHUMBPRINTS. GAMEOVER. But seriously they’re so freaking amazing and I’m getting all my friends hooked. I also really love their turnovers. Everything I’ve tried here is good but the thumbprints esp the sugar ones and the apple turnover is my favorite!

Out-of-towners and locals alike: I have your new go-to spot for cakes if you would prefer something that didn’t come from the supermarket. We picked up a carrot cake birthday cake for a friend, and it was one of the better choices we made that day. One piece of the moist cake, sweet cream cheese frosting, and walnut coating around the edges of the cake makes you second guess if your favorite aunt brought it to the party. In short: Trefzger’s is a bakery worthy of your calories.

What to say– a great throw back place, just don’t look for the latest trend here and be prepared as the staff might engage in conversation with the customers.

As I sit here with one of their sticky pecan rolls in front of me, I can only describe it as Heaven. Their bakery goods always are fresh and delicious. I’ve never been disappointed.

This is the perfect place to get any pies or cakes that you need. We recently went to a family Christmas and brought four of their pies and everyone loved them.

My husband grew up in the Peoria area. He kept telling me how good this place was… and it is! The cakes and cupcakes are to die for! The flavors(lemon, banana, etc…) are awesome and the frosting is perfect. The Red Velvet is just beyond amazing! We love it so much we had them do our cupcakes for our wedding last October. They even rented out a cupcake stand to use for the event. Each time I go back to Peoria I pre-order 1 dozen to take home and freeze!

Trefzger’s Bakery did our wedding cake and they were wonderful. The cake was more beautiful than I imagined and Martha was fabulous to work with. It tasted great and the guests loved it as well.

When I first moved to Peoria, everyone kept talking about this bakery and if I had been there. Honestly, I had ever heard of it. People brought in pastries from this place and I fell in love. They were so moist and just delicious! I have to say the prices can be a little steep on some things, but they are good. The building isn’t very noticeable and it’s easy to miss, you can drive right by it and never know it was even there so if you are looking for the place, keep a sharp eye out! Once inside, it’s very small, but there are lots of yummy things to pick from. Usually I buy boxes of their day old stuff. It’s still sooo good and much cheaper. We eat it up so quickly anyways that it doesn’t matter that it was from yesterday, there are never any leftovers!

Trefzger’s is one of a handful of bakeries in Peoria, and reflecting this place its kinda boring, uninnovative, quality is ok. Honestly I used to like this bakery, they have a few good things the pecan cookies are good, they melt in your mouth and are sweet and salty all at once. Chocolate chip cookies are yummy, but very thin I like those more fluffy. The rest of the stuff is ok, other cookies too sugary, nothing really that makes you want to waste your calories. They have mini-cheesecakes brownies you can order for a party but taste and appearance you can tell baker has little training or sophistication in presentation… I mean it looks like something I made at home. My real problem with this place is the speciality cakes, I would never have taken the time to rate this place until they messed up my engagement cake. First problem is the decorators here have little training, rely on old-fashioned techniques, and have not kept up with what is in trend. The cakes here are old and tacky looking. My friend got her wedding cake from here, what she wanted should have had beautiful gold designs, but this place is out of tune with things they had never heard of gold dust for icing, and she got a cake with yellow designs… it could have been amazing but came out ugly. Another time I asked for a cupcake wedding cake like with three tiers of cupcakes and a cake on top I got«No we dont do that» they were not even willing to take an idea(that is in EVERY bridal magazine/sweet sixteen blog) and make it work, it would be respectful to the client and great for their buisness. I wanted mini-wedding cakes for a bridal shower and they were lost at how to achieve this concept, I actually had to show them the cake pans from wilton, but gave up because it wasnt worth it. My engagement cake… I wanted a simple beautiful cake I sent so many pictures to the decorator, really tried to explain what I wanted, the concept, look I mean there was no way she could have messed it up, I gave her an EXACT picture but I had no confidence in her because she couldnt figure it out. I ended up desperatley buying $ 100 worth of ribbon and jewels, because I figured once she messed up her end this would save the cake. On the day of I got the cake, I ordered and paid for off-white pearlized fondant. It was a plain white butter cream cake. $ 1,000 for what looked like a mothers day cake… They did not even know how to pearlize a fondant cake, their technique was so outdated that she had figured making it glittery would make the cake pearlized… NO you actually need a tool to make the cake pearlized I know that and I am not even a «cake decorator» Flowers I wanted red and pink, they were all white. I hate a white cake, it did not speak to my engagement parties colors, or my personality. Was a HUGE dissapointment, I know its silly but seriously every time I see those pictures it hurts… a girl gets one engagement party… one cake… I will NEVER use this bakery again.

Trefzger’s is the go-to bakery in Peoria for all cakes, breads, and other sweets. Seriously, if you havn’t had their cake it is worth making the trip out there. I will not eat a cake at a party unless it is from Trefzger’s!

I had to be on a low iodine diet(LID) for radiation treatment and it is so hard to find a restaurant or bakery that KNOWS what their food is made with. They use non-iodized salt and offer certain pastries & breads that are completely egg-free(a must for low-iodine dieters & vegans alike), they even had egg-free cream horns & tarts! Bread is usually off limits when on this diet and since most are on it for several weeks, it becomes VERY hard to find something, anything, to eat on the go & Trefzger’s offers SEVERAL! When I called, I got to talk to someone who knew all of the ingredients and recipes and knew right away what to recommend. My companion also got a bunch of breads, cookies, brownies & cakes and said they were all amazing. If you have to be on a special diet or need to know what’s in your food before you eat it, give this place a try, you’ll be glad you did! Ask them about shipping, you never know — they probably would.

LOVE their frosting… it’s the best frosting of all time. They really need to open a bakery closer to Chicago, so that I don’t have to wait until my friend brings some in to work once in a while after she’s visited her family in Peoria. I need it more often than that! I wonder if they freeze/ship their cakes??? ;)

This little bakery has won me over. I was driving through Peoria from a trip, and decided to stop here based on reviews. I ate a caramel danish, an almond danish, and got a box of the glitter cookies. All of them were really yummy! The glitter cookies(picture in photos) looks like something great to take to a birthday party. Confetti/glitter sprinkles look/taste great!

The goods offered aren’t bad by any stretch, but they seem very normal/average. I tried some danishes and turnovers, and didn’t find anything extraordinary about them. Maybe their full cakes/pies are better? I also went in the early afternoon, maybe you have to get there early in the morning for the good stuff? *shrug*

I had high hopes. Entering, I was surrounded bread and wedding cakes. I was looking for pastries. Maybe I am too used to Brooklyn bakeries. I had a cupcake that was ok.

Every time I go back to Illinois for a visit, I get up early, head over the McCluggage bridge to stand in line at Trefzgers. I MUST have their Danish Coffee Cake(strudel, really), and Pecan Sticky Buns. Everything there is amazing… the Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Thumbprint Cookies, Cinnamon Swirl Bread, Iced Oatmeal Nut Cookies, etc… This last trip was no exception. In addition to the usual goodies, I ordered a half sheet cake for my Gram’s 80th birthday. Nothing but the best for such a special occasion! I think everything is extremely affordable, and dare I say cheap. Great value! Trefzger’s is my family tradition, a Peoria institution and just like I always remember it. Get there early… and take a number!
