After moving to Philly in 2011, it took me about 7 – 8 haircuts to find the right barbershop. I came across 2BGroomed off a recommendation from a friend and I haven’t gone anywhere else since. Love the chill atmosphere, old school vibe and fresh cut I always leave with after Jahmal hooks it up!

Not worth the $ 31.
Loved the ease of the online booking and the Center City location. But that’s where the love ends
But the barber seemed really rushed and spent no more than 5 minutes cutting my hair. He didn’t offer a neck shave or product. For $ 31, I expected the cut to be done with much more care and attention.
When I went to pay (seeing the credit machine), he said he was cash only today and asked me to go to the atm down the street.
Avoid this place and save your money.
I’m not happy with my haircut and planning to have it done again next week when it grows out a little.

So I used the online booking to make an appointment for the morning of my wedding to get a straight razor shave from Jahmal at 9am sharp, knowing that I didnt have to start getting ready til 11am at the hotel and I live right in Old City. I received 2 emails confirming my appointment as well as a text msg for 11÷28÷14 at 9am. One of my groomsmen lived a block away from his shop and assured me he would do a good job.
The morning of I find a great place to park on 11^th street at 8:55am right across from the barber shop and I eagerly await for my appointment time in my car as nobody was visible inside the shop… 9:05am, 9:08am comes around and still nobody has opened up the shop while I wait on the sidewalk outside the front door. I tried knocking on the door, checked my email confirmation once, twice, three times to be sure I hadn’t made an error booking my shave. To no avail, the sign outside read «Open 7 Days a Week» with the hours clearly marked everyday open at 9am. I called the shop while standing outside on the curb right in front only to receive the voicemail, so I left a message stating I was there on time and in front of the shop awaiting (now its 9:10am) and still no answer or sight of anyone.
Needless to say, to this day, I have not received a call back, apology, or any other reason why I wasn’t able to get the straight razor shave I booked almost a week prior. I will never patronize this business and I’m shocked that someone with absolutely no integrity runs a serice oriented business in Philadelphia.

Went here today before an interview to get the back of my neck cleaned up. Also had him do around my ears and take the bulk out of my sideburns. To my surprise, this was interpreted as give me a trim. I got charged $ 16, and he completely destroyed my cut, going half way up the side of my head with his clippers, barely blending it. Then he gave me a new hairline in front with his razor. I was very specific about what I wanted, and I do not feel like it was out of the ordinary. Then to be charged $ 16 at the end just added insult to injury. Do not go here.

There are 2 parts to this story. First was the frustration with the other barber (not Jahmal) who when I called in to make an appointment didnt actually put me down for a cut so I ended up waiting for about an hour to get a cut. Could’ve been a one-​time error but it put a sour taste in my mouth.
As for the cut, It was just… good. I have the «Gatsby» haircut and it’s definitely not easy finding a great barber who can cut it well. Jahmal was very confident in his abilities and he did spend the time on my hair. He cut my hair a little short on top so it looked a little awkward for about a week or so but it grew out really nicely. Jahmal did a great job with my corners and part but the overall cut (especially for the price tag) was just plain vanilla good.
I’m glad I tried 2 b groomed but I won’t be a returning customer.

If you love a haircut that looks like someone’s 7 year old cousin did it, then this is the place for you!
Had my hair mauled here 3 times and I liked the atmosphere so much I kept coming back. Even had a long chat with the owner Jamal about getting a good cut where he claimed to be the cream of the crop… he left so many random lumps of hair uncut I’m half wondering if he needs glasses. Not to mention his clean up job is sloppy (had my girlfriend knocking chunks of hair he left off my ears and head all night).
If you want a $ 10 haircut just go to the ChopShop but take a pass on 2B Groomed unless you want to pay $ 31 for that same crap job.
The shop seemed so cool too but I guess I know why it’s always empty.

I asked Jahmal for a trim. I asked him to leave length on top and just clean up the sides. I got waaaay more than I bargained for. It’s uneven on top and in the front; longer on the sides and back… amateur.
I’m usually pretty specific in what I ask for in order to avoid feeling terrible afterwords but it didn’t help here. Also, Jahmal came off as unfriendly and cocky — which would be fine if I got a decent cut.
I should have known better when the two main places nearby — Groom and King of Shaves — are booked solid after 4PM all week and this place is completely open. Won’t be coming back.

Jamal is a master of his craft. He’s also an awesome guy. I highly recommend this place to any guys looking for an great haircut and shave.

I sometimes get the urge to do completely idiotic things when I’m bored. This was the case when I decided to cut my hair with a beard trimmer… that ran out of juice halfway through. Needless to say it resulted in an interesting style I dubbed «The Bachelor».
Thankfully, 2B Groomed was right around the corner and fixed me right up. And while it’s the shortest my hair has ever been (they did what they could), it is also the most complimented cut I’ve ever had, making it very serendipitous.
I can tell there is a real passion for the work here and that makes all the difference in a world of generic salons looking for a quick turnover. Time and care was taken to make me feel more confident walking out of there than I did walking in.
Moral of the story? Don’t cut your own hair… or do. I don’t know.
Just visit them, ok?

Well, it looks like Philadelphians’ priorities are still right up there with Playboy’s — minus the class, though. Jamal quietly asked me to step outside of his shop because despite my needing a cut, and feeling relieved to find they were opened late, he was offended to hear my surprise at his announcement of the shocking sticker price — $ 27. Most people willing to charge twice the going rate are able to sell customers on the quality of what they’re providing. But this was apparently no job for Jamal; his ego wasn’t going for THAT!
Good luck and as the other reviewer said, my apologies to the Philadelphians who don’t realize you can get at least as good a job for half that amount in a place with just as much character (and nostalgic window dressing!) in nearly any other city in the U.S. But if you’re just about image you belong in Beverly Hills though, or Buckingham Palace. Not in a tiny, crammed corner of 40 square feet of ramshackle space at 11^th and Spruce.

A hidden treasure indeed. Not only did they give me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had, but they did it with a friendly smile. These guys are incredible and worth every penny.

I was in Philadelphia for a conference and got a haircut here. Made an appointment, which seemed like something you’d want to plan to do here, with just one chair. I was very happy with the cut. I asked for advice about wearing my very fine, thinning hair a different way and got a great suggestion and a new approach.
Generally, I’m uncomfortable talking with a barber; I want the attention to be on my hair, not on conversation, but I enjoyed the conversation here.
The experience comes off as just slightly pretentious to me, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Some others have commented on the price; however, the prices are clearly posted and I paid no more here than I do at a downtown barber shop in San Antonio.

It had been a good months since my last haircut. I desperately needed one and decided to try 2B Groomed out for a try. I was greeted at the door by Jahmal, a very cordial genuinely nice guy. The first thing I noticed was the décor in the place. Old barber stools and a small sign on the wall requesting that cell phones be turned off. GQ, Playboy and Philadelphia Style were stuffed into the magazine rack beside the two waiting chairs along the wall. I liked what I saw.
I hopped in the chair and Jahmal asked me what I wanted with this «mess» atop my head. I gave him some ideas, and he made it happen. We made some small talk and I truly enjoyed the 30 minutes I spent in the chair while listening to WRTI classical music. He finished the job with a nice straight blade shave/​cleanup around my sideburns and the nape of my neck. I put my glasses back on and looked at the mirror a satisfied customer. A sharp attention to detail left me feeling like a million bucks.
The $ 31 dollars was completely worth it for a quality hair cut in Center City by a true gentleman. Plus, the classic décor leaves you feeling a bit like James Bond perhaps…

My husband recently got a shave here. Armed with his first beard ever and pictures of what he wanted this beard to look like, he asked for guidance on how to make his beard look like the photos — natural but groomed, like nikolaj coster-​waldau in headhunter. Instead he got Joey fatone on dancing with the stars.
Perhaps the worst part was that henna was applied to my husband’s face without a warning that it is semi permanent coloring… our your face. Now, he and I do not like the shape of the beard but he is afraid to take it off for fear of have a semi– permanent shadow.
According to my husband, the owner was very nice, super nice, a guy he would want to hang out with, which is why there are two stars here. Lots of effort and care went into the shave, but I doubt my husband will go back. His face is all red and blotchy, there are nicks, there are stray hairs that will have to be removed, and the beard looks nothing like the photos he showed… nothing at all. In all, a great experience but bad result.

Went in with high hopes, left feeling like I just paid Sweeney Todd…
Let’s start with the positives:
Ambiance ¹⁰⁄₁₀. This is what you want in a barber shop. Truefitt and Hill products, Men-​U, American Crew, just to name a few. Jazz music playing, great set-​up.
Jamal himself: Guy was incredibly nice. We spoke about the passion behind shaving, the products that work and that don’t, I could not wait! Then this butcher put his razor to my face…
First thing that a kid with a plastic razor should know is that you don’t shave skin that has no cream on it. My face almost 2 hours later is ON FIRE. I have a half-​dozen pictures to back this up. Ten years in this business and this isn’t common sense???
The cuts, yes there were multiple. One, the deepest, I’ll take blame for. As he pulled the razor from my face I moved slightly and now have a one-​inch gash which will turn into a scar. The other 5 – 6 noticeable cuts, not weepers, cuts were your doing Jamal. Thanks buddy.
Hair left? Of course, you’d think though in the hour it took he’d have taken it all off? Nope. On neck and under nose I just cleaned up. Shaving over a fiercely irritated area simply to go out to dinner tonight. Again, thanks Jamal.
So, if that wasn’t everything, driving home, my face smells like blood. Not a little but when you turn your head to check the side-​mirrors and you get a whiff of blood, I’d say Sweeney did what Sweeney does.
So with dinner in under 2 hours perhaps ice packs and aloe vera will help? Thanks again Jamal.
I tipped you $ 5 on top of the $ 35 for the slaughter because it was the only brave face I could put on before I reacted the way one should have. Sometimes leaving without saying anything is 10x harder.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to someone I was trying to destroy. Jamal as a human being you’re ok in my book. As a barber, you suck.
Today I celebrated my 7^th year of sobriety, thanks for making it memorable pal.

I called, they had a spot open, I ran through the rain and humidity, I arrived wet and sweaty.
But the nice gentleman took me despite my condition. Very friendly folks in the quaint 2 chair shop. The barber worked fast yet we actually chatted and it wasn’t the dreaded «barber chat» that you just avoid. My barber never seemed rushed (even though I showed up late and he had a follow on appointment). When it was all done, I paid $ 31 for one of the best haircuts I’ve had in years and wondered to myself why I’ve been going to Chopshop all this time. Sure, I get a decent haircut there but I always get attitude from the front person and my haircut varies every trip. It was nice to get a quality cut with hot foam shave at the end.
Can’t wait to go back, on time, not after running, so I can melt in the chair and enjoy a great haircut.

In NY, where I’m accustomed to getting my hair done it’s a law to wash hair before you cut it… for hygiene reasons. Apparently you barbaric Pennsylvanians don’t believe in cleanliness. Either way, I gave the local way a shot. Jamal, my barber, convinced me to get a wash at the end. I left wish dripping wet hair. Uncomfortable overall, not worth it.
Jamal described himself as an artist. It was clear he was good at his craft, but all I wanted was a decent low maintenance haircut. He made the swirl from the middle of my head go all the way around to the front. Plus I felt he took too much liberty with lengths of certain areas. I think I’d go back, and although I appreciate the small barber shop feel for $ 35 a month I’m not becoming a regular.
