History

Established in 2012.

Architeqt Salon and gallery was Started by Alexey Kats and Pawel Jan,

designed to house the best hairstylists in the Philadelphia area.

Making its debut as an Architectural firm, Always By Design, this Frank Lloyd Wright-​inspired building out in Washington Square West, now offers a bright, 1200 square-​foot live-​work area that boasts an open floor plan made up of urban, relaxing brick-​accented shampoo room, introduced by a sunny, multi-​chair convertible hair studio. Gleaming wood floors and organic lines décor pair with white walls that serve as the palette for rotating solo exhibitions by emerging painters and photographers. The atmosphere reflects the salon’s philosophy — a harmony of creativity and technical design. Architeqt salon and Gallery has taken special care to make the entire experience stimulating for its clientele, and make a unique addition to the busy Philly neighborhood.

Alexey K.

Business Owner

Alexey Kats is the owner and creative director at Architeqt Salon and Gallery, located in Washington Square west in Philadelphia.

Alexey has worked as a platform educator for companies such as Goldwell, Sahag and his own venture Fountainhead Beauty. While working on many of the city’s fashion shows he has also worked on feature films and produced and contributed to photoshoots for TV personalities, magazines, boutiques and universities. Alexey designed his own line of cutting and styling tools and educates both hairdressers and clients on hair cutting and styling. In addition to doing custom color and keratin treatments, Alexey has been perfecting his dry-​cutting technique for years and considers haircutting a form of sculpture.

Though generally within the Philadelphia area managing Architeqt, Alexey can also be found in New York, bi-​monthly to accommodate his dedicated New York Clients.

Sequoya did an amazing job! I got a haircut with balayage. She listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered. I even mentioned that I wanted to learn how to do beach waves, and she taught me at the end when she styled my hair. Beyond happy with my hair!

I had a fantastic experience here as a hair model with Nick. My hair was super brassy beforehand, and I wanted to change it into something more fun. After looking at several pictures on my phone and advising me on color longevity, we decided to do a pink/​rose balayage on my hair — it turned out perfect. Although I was a little nervous about the hair color change, everyone at the salon was very nice and courteous. They offered me coffee/​tea/​water multiple times, and made sure that I was always comfortable.
Architeqt has got me hooked! I’ll be back again, even without the «hair model» freebie.

First time there sequoia was very sociable and nice and made small talk and shaped it nicely nothing dramatic just cut some split ends off more of a color job which was pretty tough to figure out because it had been dyed before and despite her efforts wasn’t coming out the color I hoped for, but my hair looked too dried out– just due to the nature of coloring your hair. 5 stars for this experience and effort she took to know me and to get a hairstyle/​color I was looking for.
Second time I Came as a hair model and the junior stylist was not as friendly, but after a later conversation with one of the senior stylist it appears she was under a lot of stress and may have been having a bad day– she was later confronted about this Unilocal review to give her 100% to each client. Pavo, a senior stylist, expressed concern and intent to keep their clients happy this I am modifying my initial review. Based off the quality of work and my initial experience I would rate 5 stars, but came to 4 stars based on the «hair model» experience which was free + generous tip where my haircut was good but the experience of relaxing and enjoying the salon experience was subpar– perhaps because of the stress the junior stylist was under.
I hope to visit again and receive a better experience as everyone raves about Architeqt and their overall experience with friendly and knowledgeable staff that ensure client satisfaction. They are a strong neighborhood business and as Pavo stated, wants to maintain good connections with the community.

When I moved from NYC to Philadelphia last month, I left behind the salon and stylist I had been seeing for many, many years. Did a search of different spots in Philadelphia and chose Architeqt. Professional, nice, low key, stylish spot. Jessica brought the color back to my hair and gave me a fantastic cut. She knows exactly what was needed. Made my next appointment on my way out. Will happily return.

Brittiany Cunningham is AMAZING! I found her through an online search, and am so happy I went with my gut (and photos of her work) and booked her as the hair stylist for my wedding. I wasn’t looking for your typical run-​of-​the-​mill hair and makeup team either. I think I have had a lot of bad experiences at friends’ weddings, that I was super selective in picking the stylist for my wedding. I was very specific with Brittiany in exactly what I was looking for, and she nailed it! I did not want the sprayed prom hair curls or updo that you see at most weddings. I wanted nice big soft full curls (we used clip in extensions) for me and messy boho looks (incorporating braids) for the bridesmaids. She seriously killed it… you can see for yourself in the photos. On top of her skills and creativity, she was so professional and sweet! The girls who got their hair done were obsessed with how they looked (me included). Architeqt’s bridal hair pricing is not as expensive as some, but is a bit more expensive than the typical wedding hair stylist. It is 100% worth the price though, and I highly recommend that this is not something you skimp on for your wedding. You want to book Brittiany… you will thank me later!

Just got a cut and balayage color by Hailey. The salon atmosphere is superb and Hailey did an exceptional job with my mousey tresses. She literally gave my drab hair life. I will definitely be returning and she is highly recommended. Cut, color, style, and professionalism was top notch!!!

This was my first time at this salon for Bayalage and I was quite pleased. Jess did my hair and listened to what I wanted and provided it to me. I am not that picky with my hair, the most important thing to me was for it to still match my extensions which it did. The price was $ 100 cheaper than Salon Vanity, my old salon. They offered lots of beverages and made sure you were comfortable. I would happily return.

After relocating to Philadelphia, I began the task of searching for a new salon and stylist. Particularly daunting after having the same stylist for over 10 years back home. I was referred to John Brown at Architeqt by a mutual friend and after the first five minutes of my initial consultation, I knew I was in the hands of someone I could trust. John recommend I try Balayage as an alternative to my regular blonde foil highlights and color treatment. I absolutely loved the finished product — my hair had that sun kissed fresh and healthy glow. I’m officially an Architeqt regular now and would highly recommend John and the salon — excellent service, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

I had a great haircut by Haley. She is a doll and listened to what I wanted. She was very calming and pleasant to talk to. She washed, dried and cut my hair all in an hour and I was out the door feeling fabulous. The cut was reasonably priced and the atmosphere was fantastic.

I don’t always trust a five-​star rating on Unilocal,but Architeqt completely exceeded my expectations. I got a full balayage done by Sequoya, who is my new favorite stylist! I came in bright and annoyingly early right at their 9 am opening, where poor Sequoya had to de-​tangle my gross, humidity-​victimized hair. For like at least 40 minutes. I felt terrible, but she didn’t complain at all, and was totally understanding. Which was reassuring because I honestly don’t think I could’ve gotten out all those stubborn knots on my own. Thank you so much for doing the dirty work Sequoya!!!
Once all that was taken care of, we began my cut and color. She started by shortening my hair to the length I wanted, and then asked me if I wanted it thinner which I pleaded yes to, hoping this would help prevent crazy knots for the rest of this sweaty summer. The cut turned out perfectly, just the right length and the exact thickness (or lack thereof) that I wanted. I showed Sequoya a few pictures and emphasized I really wanted a natural looking balayage. I was not planning on doing the full balayage Sequoya suggested and did so beautifully, but I knew from the moment I sat in her chair that she knew what she was doing. She was very calm and collected, and it was nice kicking back and relaxing while she happily did all the hard work. From the start of my appointment to the end, I felt like I could interact with Sequoya not just as a client but as a friend. She didn’t mind me asking a million questions about hair and she let me feel comfortable enough to keep dozing off into a much needed nap, haha!
I love the way my hair turned out and I am so so so thrilled to have met Sequoya at Architeqt. The space itself is very open, bright, and artistic, but it’s really my time with Sequoya that made this one of my favorite hair experiences. if not my favorite!
Can’t wait to keep gradually lightening up my hair and use any excuse to go see the talented and wonderful Sequoya!

A solid 5 stars for this place, especially John! I wanted to keep somewhat longer hair and still change it up a bit. He was very patient and calm. He made sure he didn’t cut it too much. He takes time to work on your hair. Overall, it was a great experience. I even got complementary wavy curls in the end. Everyone was friendly and amazing. Premises were clean, professional, and stylish. I would definitely be comimg back here sooner than later! Thank you, John and the lady in tribal shoes (sorry didn’t catch your name)!

I am SO HAPPY I found this salon. I am a grad student living on a budget but still want my hair to look great. Unfortunately, I have super thick, long, frizzy and generally unmanageable hair that makes this difficult to accomplish.
Then along came Architeqt salon to the rescue! I can’t express enough how talented and friendly everyone at Architeqt is. I got my haircut by Alexey a few months ago and he fixed this awful cut I had been sporting and took out a lot of the volume (which I desperately needed). In fact, it is the best haircut I have ever gotten.
Given that great experience, I recently got balayage and Keratin with Hayley. It was my first time getting my hair colored (I have black/​brown) hair and was super nervous, but walked away beaming. Hayley is amazing. I showed her all the pictures of the highlights I liked, and she gave me the most subtle, warm and beautiful highlights. I am definitely a balayage convert.
Also, being in the salon is so pleasant. Everyone is so warm and friendly and attentive, the hours just flew by. This is definitely going to be my go-​to salon for the rest of my time in Philly.

I have had three haircuts with Jess now and all of them have turned out great. I have thick long hair that can be difficult to manage, but she does a great job. The dry haircuts they do at this salon really just work for me. I also love that there are Saturday hours and late hours one day a week. It makes it easy to get in when I am ready for a trim. I have not gotten my hair highlighted or had my hair cut really-​really short. When I do, I have a feeling it will turn out great.

I am a student on a budget who lives in University City, 30 blocks away from Architeqt Salon, yet I have made the commute to this salon for over two years now because it is the best. It is the best for these reasons:
1. The staff is friendly and a pleasure to work with
2. There is very little wait time and rescheduling is easy
3. The Keratin Treatment is the newest technology available, and gives my hair the best texture, and allows for you to wash it after 24 hours. The Keratin seems pricey but is well worth it. Try to get it during the winter special and save $ 100.
4. The Balayage Highlight treatment that actually looks natural and is done in a subtle and artistic fashion, as is the haircut.
I usually work with Brittiany because she is the stylist I started with, but when I am not able to make an appointment with her I know I can trust all of the other stylists to do an excellent job.
It is an upscale atmosphere with pleasant, polite people, coffee, and champagne. The decorations and ambiance is comfortable and well planned.

I bought a gilt 3 blow out deal for this salon. It was a great deal and turned me on to a great salon! I had different stylists but they were all wonderful. Me and my friend wanted to use it at the same time, generally only one person could use the deal because the other stylists were more expensiev. but they accomodated us. They offer wine. Great salon would recommend it to anyone.

The moment when your stylist is finished with your hair and hands you a mirror and you say… «I love it! Thank you so much!»
90% of the time, the stylist does just an «ok» job but you tell her she did a great job anyway to avoid any awkwardness.
When Sequoya gave me a dry haircut and balayage in my hair, I Unilocaled «omg, I love it!», I really meant it. This has been the only time I was truly happy with my hair stylist.
It was my first time getting my hair colored and after sharing about 20 Pinterest/​Instagram photos, sequoya asked me questions to get a better idea of what I want. Eventually she told me she had a good idea of what I wanted. She listened to everything I said and did not disappoint.
I won’t be going anywhere else for haircuts+color from now on.

Dry salon work, eh? Spelling Architect with a Q? I wasn’t entirely sure but, armed with a gift card and a head full of visible roots, I strolled over to Architeqt with an open mind. I was greeted at the door with a smile and offered a beverage, so I went with water on this hot and muggy May day. My hair magician was Brittany (Britney? Britain-​e? Brittini? You get it.) her own head of fire engine red hair lit up the room and I sat down, offering one of my most prized possessions under her control.
I’ll go ahead and say the staff is a stylish bunch, with everyone appearing both fashionable and effortless, as if they were born rocking boho-​chic skirts and sparkly accessories. The atmosphere is comfortable and open, lots of space. The bathroom is gorgeous, simple and elegant. Bonus points for smelling delicious without being saccharine.
I was getting highlights and a blowout. The process was par for course, very professional, very attentive to detail. Miss Brittany kept me engaged and the two-​ish hours it took to transform my hair from root-​y blah to summer blonde passed quickly. The results were everything I could’ve wanted. Seriously, one of the better jobs of the past 8 years I’ve been getting highlights. And, over the course of my visit, I saw all different types of people come in and out. Men, women, 20-​somethings to 60-​somethings. Definitely a place for anyone who values their mane, whether they’re seeking a trim or getting pink ombré.
Coming from the burbs, the price was a little shocking initially, but only about $ 40 – 60 more than I’m used to paying, and certainly a job well done. I left fully satisfied, and also fully stoked that I had a gift-​card to offset the cost (which would probably be a non-​issue if I weren’t kind of a penny-​pinching grad student…) The reviews from the weekend are in, and they’re all raving about my locks. I’m sold, and I’ll be back without question.
