The Bobby Mack & Co Hair Studio vision has three principles when it comes to the art of hairstyling: Knowledge. Creativity. Trust. In this hair studio all stylists are constantly enhancing their knowledge of the newest trends in haircuts, color and treatments, while polishing their classic cuts and styles.

History

Established in 2015.

In 2014, Bobby decided to open his own hair salon with his partner, James. Together they searched for the right space and location. A few months later, they completely renovated the space in which Bobby Mack & Company Hair Studio currently resides. The vision of the studio came to life over the 10 week construction process. Now the beautiful studio space is filled with abundant talent and great energy. The Bobby Mack & Company vision focuses on constantly increasing stylists’ knowledge of the latest trends in the industry, and encouraging each stylist to exude their own creative style. Together, with Bobby’s industry expertise, the studio team is constantly striving to build strong lasting relationships with every client and the community.

Business Owner

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Bobby has a strong sense of pride for the city. After attending college, his career path changed when he decided to work more directly with people. A big advocate of self help, Bobby wanted to help others improve their self image and self esteem. The beauty and hair industry was the perfect fit. Starting his career 8 years ago, Bobby attended Jean Madeline Aveda Institute and worked at Adolf Beicker Salon during his education. After graduation he took an apprenticeship at Noël Sy Salon on the Mainline, where he mentored and trained under international award winning hairstylists.

During this time, Bobby attended L’Oreal Soho Academy for advanced color and balayage, became certified in multiple extension and keratin treatment brands and worked on photo shoots. Wanting to settle in Center City, Bobby moved his career downtown, established a strong clientele, and came to the realization that one day, he would like to open a hair boutique of his own.

I have had a handful of hairdressers in my life. Have had short hair, long hair, pixie hair, blond, black, red, etc, so have met my share of hairdressers. I just had a hair trim with Erin and she was excellent. She was knowledgeable, kind, funny, and gave me exactly what I wanted.

I’ve always had long hair and part of the reason is because I never had a stylist I trusted. I had cut my hair short once before and had a horrible experience. I finally got sick of having long hair and decided it was time for a change. So I went on a search to find a new stylist. After I read the awesome reviews on Unilocal I made an appointment with Amber for a cut. She did such an amazing job. She really took the time to listen to all of my concerns and gave me confidence that she knew and understood what I wanted. I love love love my new hair and i’ll always come back here!

Have to write a review for my home girl Stephanie!
I started getting Balayage and haircuts from her since her days at another salon and when she notified my in the Spring that she would be starting at Bobby Mack I figured I naturally would follow her. Last saw her in May and she did a wonderful job as always.
Also want to comment on the great service of the front desk. I had shown up to my initial appointment and James (I believe that’s the name of the receptionist) realized I had been booked w/​the wrong stylist. He promptly apologized and we managed to reschedule a future appt w/​Stephanie in a reasonable amount of time (though just fyi Steph’s schedule is pretty packed, so book early!). When I returned, at the end I was given a discount for the services (w/​out me asking) I received because they felt bad about the earlier mistake. I really appreciated that kind (and cost-​saving!) gesture. I will definitely be going back in a few months to see Steph again!

I came back to Bobby Mack & Co and Kimmy was no longer there so I had an appointment with Jillian. She did a great job with my balayage and trimming up my haircut. I am so glad I found this salon, in the realm of city hair salons its a breath of fresh air. It’s small which makes appointments hard to come by (definitely make your appt a month or two in advance!) but the small size really makes the environment much more personalized. It’s very obvious that the owners really care about the customer experience, as well as the two stylists I’ve had here (and I am sure the others are just as good). Having found Bobby Mack & Co I can finally relax about finding someone to deal with my coarse frizzy curly hair. I definitely recommend Jillian and I am sure any other stylist is just as good. I also love that they update their instagram with pictures representing their stylists work. 5 stars again :)

Amazing service at this salon! They were running behind the day I went, but made every effort to make sure I was comfortable with waiting longer. I had full balayage done. This was the first time I got my hair colored and I couldn’t be happier with it. They make sure that you’re comfortable with the expected results and are highly professional. I will definitely be coming back in the future.

I recently had full balayage and a haircut with Stephanie. I was pretty lucky to get a last-​minute appointment due to a cancellation (I think you typically need to book out about a month in advance at this place). This was my first time at this salon, and I was definitely happy to be paired up with Stephanie — she’s great! She really listened to what I wanted, offered up some great suggestions, and delivered amazing results! The balayage highlights blend really nicely with my natural color while adding so much dimension and brightness. I love it. I also really appreciate that Stephanie took the time to style my hair two ways (first straight, then wavy) to show me how the cut and color would look in both contexts. Everyone at the salon is super friendly. Great experience!

My usual stylist left on maternity leave and when she came back she really scaled back her hours so i had to do my research and find a new place to go. This is no easy task and every woman knows we don’t just let ANYONE with a pair of scissors near our heads. lol but thank god for Bobby Mack’s studio and Stephanie.
Stephanie’s consultation was great. She listened to what i like and also explained what fits the frame of my face etc. After a wonderful wash she took my back to the chair and before she even took the first snip she showed me exactly how much she was taking off the length. Next she blow dried my hair out to make sure the layers were even (i really did appreciate this step). Finally she added loose curls to my hair and i was good to go!
The entire staff was friendly, and Stephanie thank you thank you for being so great. my hair is fabulous and i love you for that!

Amber did an amazing job with my color and cut … I am usually reluctant to go to new salons but after reading so many great reviews i had to give it a try and I am glad i did.
Everyone was very nice, welcoming and this is the first salon I can say I felt very comfortable and trusted my stylist. Cut my hair in layers and she did an amazing job with the cut and color, completely changed my dry, dull hair into something more natural and glossy.
Glad I went and recommend others to go as well!

I’ve been recommending people to Bobby Mack for quite a while, seeing so many friends/​co-​workers leave the salon with amazing styles/​colors… though I had never been there myself! I was stuck in my ways at a sub-​par salon near my house, but after 1 too many botched color jobs, I decided enough was enough — to Bobby Mack I would go!
Since I had about 80 colors going on in what I wanted to be a very ashy blonde, I was unsure what Kimmy, my stylist, would come up with. But, I was immediately reassured when she and Bobby spent some serious quality time with my hair in the beginning of my appointment, discussing my options and really understanding what I was going for in the long-​term and what I was comfortable with in the short-​term. In what felt like no time at all, Kimmy completely transformed my hair, taking out all of the brassiness, attacking the bands of yellow/​orange build-​up that started to crop up all over my head and left me with an amazing color. She also gave me an awesome cut, honestly one of the best I’ve ever had.
Having just had my 2nd appointment with Kimmy, I can confirm this was not a one-​time experience. I left feeling great, completely satisfied with my current color and recognizing the improvement from even my last appointment. The overall experience is just awesome from the second I walk in to the second I leave. Now I can finally recommend this salon to friends and point to my own amazing hair as proof!

Went in for balayage and could not be happier with my experience. I had an appointment with Amber. Before we even got started her and Bobby took the time to figure out exactly what I wanted whilst keeping the integrity of my hair. My path led me here because I was doing research on balayage and found that Bobby Mack was one of the few places in Philadelphia that did it. I am so grateful for finding such a special place!
At my first appointment, I walked in with orange-​y striped nightmare hair due to an unfortunate experience at a salon in Queen Village. I could feel the looks of sympathy from staff and clients alike. I was scheduled to work with Erin (who I think might be one of my favorite people). She instantly made me feel comfortable. By the time Erin was finished with me, my nightmare hair turned into a dream. I’m pretty sure everyone cheered. Seriously, it was like a dramatic makeover that would’ve made entertaining television.
The salon is so comfortable and the entire staff is so warm and lovely. James is a sweetheart and will really make you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. He has a way of making you feel like you’ve been a client for 20 years whether you’re on the phone with him or in person. Erin listens to what kind of results I’m looking for while giving her welcomed opinion… she’s easy to talk to (and I’m sometimes an awkward conversationalist so this is saying a lot), she’s freaking hilarious, she’s kind, and she is an excellent stylist. Not to mention that she’s one of the VERY few stylists I’ve been to who doesn’t make me feel like a burden for having a ton of hair.
I can’t recommend Bobby Mack enough. It’s a truly wonderful atmosphere generated by a group of wonderful and talented people. Nothing but love for them!

Best haircut and dye job ever.
I had Amber who was a blast to talk to and did an incredible job on my hair. She was very precise and attentive and did it exactly how I had pictured it. Even taught me how to curl it after and set up a whole little photoshoot for nice photos of it after. The owner and other workers there were also really nice and even helped Amber with my hair when they weren’t busy to speed up the process. I will definitely be back for all cuts!

Five stars all the way! Greeted at the door by James and was taken care of the entire time!
It was my first time seeing Bobby and he spent the time to assess my hair and learn my routine. I’m a very low maintenance gal and he gave me a full balayage with the perfect blend and color knowing that I won’t be back to his salon for another 4 – 6 months! The color turned out just as I hoped, soft brown with hints of honey.

Amber did an incredible job coloring and cutting my hair. I’m almost always unhappy walking out from a haircut, but this was not the case! I told her generally what I wanted and didn’t have any photos for inspiration to show her, so she had some freedom and gave a better haircut/​color than I could have imagined. Just left my appointment with Erin and I am absolutely thrilled with how my hair came out. After a collaborative consultation about what I was looking for (something a little shorter and some color with little maintenance) Erin got right to it and really gave me a subtle but effective change. Just what I wanted.
I loved the environment, the pleasant conversation and that they offered me tea as soon as I walked in.

I had a wonderful experience at Bobby Mack & Co Hair Studio.
From the moment I walked in the door, there was a friendly, warm and stylish atmosphere. They immediately served me a glass of water in a cute cup. They also had coffee and tea available! It made for a very nice waiting experience.
I didn’t wait very long because my stylist, Amber, was quick to greet me! She asked me what I wanted and really listened. She took her time on my hair and was a very good conversationalist. She made sure that I absolutely loved my hair! And I do! Amber did a great job executing on the look that I had asked for — a natural looking balayage. She was so nice, and so was everyone else on the Bobby Mack team. Amber took me outside to take pictures of my hair, which made me feel very special, like a celebrity :) I will most definitely be back very soon and I have already booked my husband for a haircut with Bobby!

Not only a great new hair style (cut & color), but fantastic service. My appointment was at 5:30pm and Kimmy (my hair stylist) met with me right on time. She did a fantastic job with my balayage and cut. It took 3.5 hours, and the salon closes at 8pm — but that didn’t stop Kimmy from meticulously taking care of my hair. She was great to talk to and made me feel really comfortable about all of the changes I was making. She also took time after she blew out my hair to teach me how to use a «hair wand» because I had mentioned to her that I had had one for about 7 months and didn’t know how to use it yet. She was the best!
AND because the salon closed at 8pm and my hair (being the sole client at the time) wasn’t finished until close to 9pm, Bobby himself was there to close up the salon and he graciously gave me a ride home because it was late and cold. Now is that service or what?!
I definitely found my new salon. I HIGHLY recommend Bobby Mack & Co Hair Studio to anyone who is looking for a fantastic style with outstanding service.

Updated my long grown out balayage with Erin and received a hair cut.
The staff and owners are incredibly kind, professional, and dedicated. There is a friendly atmosphere and they truly are dedicated to customer service and satisfaction. Also, I have a lot of hair, and they had to use a lot of product.
I had an emergency and had to leave before my hair was dry and Eric could check my highlights. They let me leave, and come back for free the next day even though it was a busy time for them. I was there for at least three hours each time. They spent a lot of time of my hair so I felt really bad but they insisted on making sure my hair turned out well! My hair cut was great also. I highly recommend Bobby Mack.

My junior year of high school, I dyed my hair dark brown. After a month, I hated it. Cue about 40 boxes of Extra-​Light Blonde dye over the next 5 years. I LOVED being blonde, it was my identity, but I needed a change and I wanted to go back closer to my natural color. I was washed out and hated how unnatural my hair looked.
I had Erin M (pink hair Erin!), and she was AMAZING! I live in DC but will try to come back to Philly every time I need something done to my hair. Erin was so nice and great. She cracked me up and let me babble like I tend to do.
I just got a haircut about 2 weeks ago so there was nothing to accomplish there, but I got color and a blowout. In a three hour span, I went from yellow blonde to a ginger to light brown. Admittedly, my color is not what I thought I’d leave with and I think I scared Erin with my reaction to how dark it was, but I 100% LOOOOOVE IT. My eyes pop, I look way more mature (sorry blonde gang), and everyone I know has had a positive reaction to it. My boyfriend said I looked like Amy Adams… that’s a stretch but I’ll take it.
Even though I didn’t get a cut, I came in when Erin was finishing up with a client and I watched Bobby go through a few clients while I was sitting there… their work is amazing! I texted several of my Philly friends during my appointment telling them they need to come there to get anything done!
