Calm Massage Yoga and Reiki Studio

Came here for a massage. The owner, Paula answered and was super friendly explaining in detail any questions I had. She was super accommodating when scheduling my appointment.
When I arrived the receptionist was very friendly. The studio was clean and relaxing. Paula did my massage and she was great! She asked me about any concerns and also made sure that I was comfortable and asked me if I had any questions for her. She made me feel at ease which always makes for an even more relaxing experience. The massage was great and super relaxing. She used the perfect amount of oil, the towels were the perfect temperature and the room was comfortable as well. Overall great experience and highly recommended! Paula even offered suggestion for how to ease my constantly achy shoulders.

Shocker! Deceptive business practices caught up to them.

This is one of the best massages I have had! Paula, the owner, was an amazing masseuse!
I usually go for medical-​type massages because I have scoliosis and use massage to treat severe back pain. I found a deal for this place on Groupon and was very pleasantly surprised. It had more of a spa feel (scented oils that smelled really good, soft music, etc.) so it was very relaxing but also served its purpose of easing my back pain.
Paula made me feel really welcome and comfortable, she communicated with me the whole time about the pressure and technique. It was perfect! I need a lot of pressure and Paula was great with that. She actually listened to me and made adjustments when requested, which I haven’t always had with other masseuses. She even asked me exactly how much time I would like her to spend on my back vs. the rest of the body. She was really, really receptive and I can tell she cares a lot about her clients.
The experience was everything I could have hoped and more! I will definitely go back!

I just went in for an hour long therapeutic massage with Paula last Thursday, and it was fantastic! I found Calm through a deal on Groupon, and would absolutely go back. Paula utilizes guided relaxation techniques, which I found so helpful, and as I told her when I was leaving, left me feeling so zen. I must say, I agree with a previous review that it pulled me out of my relaxed mode each time I heard the phone ring in the other room. However, the sound of the phone wasn’t so awful that I wouldn’t go back. Seems like a really great business that’s revamping to match the needs of the clientele. Paula, the owner, said that she is no longer offering yoga at the studio and concentrating more on massage and wellness, which seems like a wonderful idea. I’m sure I’ll be back to Calm for another massage with Paula!

Going for a massage for me is a rare treat, and I had a great experience with my Swedish massage. Those used to fancier places may be disappointed, but the unassuming nature of this place actually put me at ease. A lady named Ally performed the massage, it was extremely relaxing and I am already looking forward to returning next time I have some spare cash. The oils and hot towels used during the treatment were also great. The only reason I can’t put 5 stars is you can definitely hear talking/​phone ringing in the main room, and as it was blazes hot out the room was on the warm side, although I was too blissed out during the massage to really care.

I been there twice, the owner is very nice, but she couldnt able to perform good massage at all.

I bought a Groupon for a Swedish massage, and I’m so glad I did! Paula took wonderful care of me from the second I came through the door. She used just the right amount of pressure, and checked in regularly to make sure I was comfortable. I will definitely be back!

Worst massage in Philadelphia. The therapist had long, scratchy nails. Need I say more? How on earth can you massage with untrimmed nails?
The facts: Don’t fall for the groupon or amazon local deals.
This is way below the level of a professional massage, the «therapist» had the skill level you can attain at a weekend course.
She rushed through a sequence and massaged so fast (I know, I’ve never associated that adjective fast with the word massage before), that I was anything but «calm» as the name of their studio suggests.
The room was tiny/​dark/​way too hot. You could hear women chat throughout the massage next door. Oh, and the 1 hour wasn’t really a full hour. Will not return. Check out professional studios in Philly, any other studio will be better than this one.

This is a wonderful little find in a somewhat unusual spot. It seems a little bit off the beaten path and that is one of the reasons that I like it. Paula is a spectacular massage therapist. She developed her skills partially at a much pricier salon, so you get the benefit of a high priced massage without the high price! Best of all, Paula wants to really serve her clients and do a good job as a businesswoman. When I have had issues (i.e. expired gift certificates, problems with scheduling), she has gone out of her way to accommodate me. I have recommended Calm to many people, including my children. None of them have been disappointed. If you want your massage without all the hoopla of a large busy salon, this is your place.
I have not had the other therapists, so I am unable to comment on their ability. Book with Paula, though, and you won’t be disappointed.

I am visiting Philadelphia this week, and as part of my vacay planned to treat myself to a massage and lo and behold, a Groupon appeared for a 60 minute Swedish at this lovely little place! The studio is small and unassuming. I was promptly greeted by Paula, the owner, and Adrianna, my massage therapist. Paula was friendly and welcoming, but also laid back. The massage room itself was small, and yes, cramped (per the review below), but once I got on the table I was good to go and did not notice Adrianna moving around. On my way out, I peeked in the other massage room which was more spacious. But on to the massage itself… Adrianna is a talented and skilled masseuse. I loved every minute of my massage. In fact, it might be my best massage yet! Adrianna asked appropriate questions about my comfort level throughout the massage, but was not talkative otherwise (which I really appreciate) Overall, I had a fabulous experience and am feeling super relaxed! I will definitely be coming back when I’m next in town. I urge you to support this small business!

My husband and I booked massages for spaweek. When I called to make the appointment, I spoke to Paula, who said she was the owner of the massage studio. She was friendly and did a great job of describing the treatments offered. She confirmed we could have two massages at the same time, and took down our names and preference for male or female therapists.
We arrived 15 minutes early the day of our massage as Paula had left a message the day before saying they were fully booked and couldn’t accommodate late appointments. We checked in with a young lady who didn’t have our male/​female therapist preferences listed but took them down again. She was nice but distracted by her several friends who were seemingly just hanging out with her while she worked. While we waited they were loudly chatting and eating — not a very «calm» environment.
Some time later, another client came in for her appointment at the same time. I thought this strange since I was sure Paula had mentioned there were only two therapists. The front desk lady figured this out after a few minutes and came back to ask us if we were both getting massages and if they were at the same time or back-​to-​back. I told her they were at the same time and I confirmed that when I made the appointment. She said only my name was in the book and made excuses saying she wasn’t the one that makes appointments and she doesn’t know who did, and so on, giving the impression that it wasn’t her problem, which we found to be very unprofessional.
Eventually, she spoke to Paula who came out to tell us that whoever made the appointment only put my name in, and they could take one of us now and then comp the other person for another time. She wasn’t apologetic and didn’t seem to particularly bothered that they had screwed up and this was extremely inconvenient to us. We left, as we wouldn’t spend a penny in a place that can’t train their staff in basic client service and clearly doesn’t value their clientele.

I *heart* Calm! Paula and her staff are so welcoming to everyone that walks through the door. I have had a massage and have taken their Yoga class which I enjoyed both! They seem to have workshops on a consistant basis and I plan on attending some of them. This is a great place for folks beginner Yogis to feel comfortable in class since the classes are extremely small! Great addition to the Passyink Square neighborhood.

I used to go to Paula consistently when she worked in Center City Philadelphia, and have followed her to Calm at 12^th and Moore. She is a true professional, and is so friendly and down to earth. The studio has a warm, comfortable atmosphere and is so welcoming, unlike some other high end day spas and yoga studios. I always leave there feeling completely relaxed, and Paula works with you to ensure that she is addressing any problem areas. I always enjoy my experience at Calm, and plan on taking some yoga classes there soon!

I take a fitness class at Calm with Vanessa. I really enjoy taking her class. She mixes the right amount of exercises with influences of yoga/​pilates. I like her style of instruction because she is always mindful of your positioning and makes sure that you are feeling the exercise in the right places. I think that more people should take her fitness classes here because she can really get you to tone your body! And she is fun!

I have had many massages over the years and this was definitely up there with the good ones. I had a rain drop massage after receiving a DailyCandy deal. The massage was fantastic, Paula, is wonderful. She makes you feel completely comfortable and I left feeling so relaxed and rejuvenated. I will definitely go back and get additional massages.

I’ve been needing a massage in the worst way lately, and wasn’t sure where to go. Then when walking a friend’s dog, I noticed Calm. Something about the place seemed appealing, so I called and made an appointment.
It was amazing. From the moment I walked in the door, Paula, the owner, was friendly and welcoming. She asked me a little about what I most needed to focus on, and helped me get comfortable immediately. The massage room itself was beautiful, and when the massage started – I was in heaven. Paula told me before she started that she worked at Toppers for a long time, and it clearly shows… there’s magic in those hands.
I highly recommend Calm, and will be going back again myself for another massage and for yoga, too.

Today was my first visit to Calm. I met Paula, the owner, and as others have noted she is very warm and welcoming. I’ve been to so many different yoga studios and liked them all, but none have ever been so friendly and welcoming as this one. Paula is really conscientious and pays a lot of attention to gently adjusting you properly during poses. I also liked that it was only an hour. I came back later for a therapeutic massage. Paula was, of course, very professional, checking my comfort level several times during the massage. After the massage, she didn’t diagnose any issues for me, but pointed out where I may be slightly out of alignment and explained how she could help me work on those issues through yoga. It felt nice to know that I could come to one place for different services and classes and they would know so much about me and what I’d like to work on. I felt like I was family and I look forward to returning.

Calm Yoga is a tiny, peaceful little studio located just where 11^th St. intersects with Passyunk Avenue and Moore. It’s a very small space, so classes must needs be limited to less than ten participants. Owner Paula is one of those people who just emits a warm, welcoming vibe, and the atmosphere is friendly and non-​judgmental — perfect for beginners and folks who think they «aren’t flexible enough,» or hesitant to try yoga.
I have not yet partaken, but I know massage is also available here. The only quibble I have with the studio are the totally uncovered windows — they do let in lots of nice natural sunlight, but if you are self-​conscious, being on display for gawping pedestrians has limited relaxation properties.
