Community College of Philadelphia

I am currently a student at Philadelphia University and I was trying to take one class at CCP, but this never happened because of the sheer incompetence of the staff in Admissions, as well as in Guest and Transfer services. I had been to 2 other community colleges before attending PhilaU, and this is undoubtedly the worst experience I have had in any of these settings. Took me literally a month of emailing 4 days a week for me to get an answer of whether or not I could register for the class I needed, which is frankly embarrassing for a place of «advanced education.» This school is a joke, and I would seriously look into other options for your college education.

Community College Of Philadelphia is Phily’s metro are’a leading community college. It’s a very good school but a few cautions is to make sure that you pick a major you like and keep your grades up and please make sure that they DO NOT screw with your credits. Sometimes they have a tendency to do that most of the time.
After a few semesters at Delaware County Community College I came here in the fall of 2002 and left in fall 2013. I had tranfered in my credits from DCCC to CCP with success. Over my time there I have developed a strong relationships with a few people. and staff at the school. I first started out with Communitions then I did Photography after a while I droped that as well then I got into Behavorial Health and Human Services and I finally stayed. Kerry Arnold Terrilyn Hickman and Lorraine Barber and three of the BEST profeessors in BHHS circullum.

CCP staffs are so rude and unprofessional. Over the phone, they talk to you like you are bothering them by giving you the «go do it yourself!» attitude. I sent in my transcripts a month ago, and I’ve been calling the incoming transcript office for three weeks. No one has ever picked up or called me back after leaving numerous messages. I cannot register for my class because of the prerequisites required for my classes. I called admissions office, waited on the phone for 30 minutes, finally got to speak to a lady who I thought could help me, but she actually said «I don’t know why your application isn’t showing up but you have a student login ID. I can’t give it to you but you need to email admissions.» SERIOUSLY? I’m pretty sure emailing you guys back and forth didn’t help so I had to call. Then she told me to email Guest, which I did, and then Guest responded to my email by telling me to email admissions instead. WTF. I swear these staffs are just plain miserable! You have to force them to be helpful, they will not be willingly helpful whatsoever. I will not be attending this school. I would rather pay extra hundred dollars instead of getting treated like this.

CCP is a great, inexpensive college education. Professors all know what they are talking about. Students are as diverse as they come. Easy access to/​from public transportation makes this College a breeze to attend. I’m in my early 30s, and CCP made my transition back to school an easy one!

I am only giving this school two stars-​Yes, one, two stars, because of the great assistance that we have received with the International student’s office. However, I find this school to be just Okay. You have to go through so many channels to get any assistance with financial questions. My classes were changed at the last minute, and I was unable to get into another class, for those selected days; I was forced to take classes on other days, which conflicted with my schedule. No one was able to hear my concerns, and I eventually changed schools, due to this conflict. My experience has truly been an awful one. I regret truly enrolling for such a sub-​standard school, and would truly consider other Community colleges before investing time and money into this one.

I hated everything about CCP! The best thing about CCP was finally getting my degree! I have my now useless degree in elementary education, I now go to Temple University as a psychology major, I was not prepared for Temple, I was told I would not need to take any more math and when I got to temple I needed the class above what I took! Financial aid is a nightmare, the worst ever. The only redeeming quality is the friends I made here and the lack of work I did to get an a in the class and the newely made building at the Northeast Campus was nice. If you need to get your GPA up or need a small start right out of college without spending a ton of money CCP is for you, but be warned!

I used CCP as my transition to grad school. It had been over ten years since I’d graced the inside of a classroom and I wanted to be sure spending a ton of money on a master’s degree was something I truly wanted. I was able to use my undergrad credits to get a certificate in creative writing in one year, basically only taking creative writing classes and two random requirements. Classes are so cheap that it was a great way to test my desire for academia. Sure, the actual process of getting in and scheduling classes, figuring out where to go, who to speak to, etc. can be a little bit annoying and confusing at times, but I figured it all out and it was worth it. Staff varies from rude to amazing. The librarians are super sweet, admissions not so much. Once you figure out where you need to go people are usually pretty helpful. Speaking with people on the phone was by far the most infuriating and I was hung up during one occasion, hence the loss of a star.
The professors at CCP are really quite amazing, I must say. I learned a lot in a short amount of time and am now in a MFA program, having additional information and experience thanks to the wonderful knowledge of these hard working professors. I honestly think I’d be drowning in my classes right now without the experience of classes at CCP.

While CCP has great intentions, the lazy, horrible, rotten people they have trusted to carry out their mission makes CCP a complete hole.
I went to CCP after graduating high school to partake in their deul admissions program. This program is great in theory, but not so much in practice.
Classes at CCP are laughably unchallenging, and in no way prepare you for a four year college. The «professors» are noticably frazzled and disengaged.
The worst aspect of this pit would be the financial aid office. Just nasty, lazy, rude, rotten human beings. I promised myself a long time ago I would never step foot again in this institution, and by God I won’t. I don’t care how cheap the credits are, it’s not worth my self-​respect and dignity!

I don’t actually start here until Tuesday, but the fiancial aid department is atrocious! I was literally on hold for an hour and a half on multiple occasions and they never sound like they actually want to help you. As far as the actual school goes, so far so good.

I decided to create a Unilocal profile specifically so I could review this school and if there was an option for no stars that would be more fitting. Yesterday was by far the worst experience in any establishment (business or other) I have ever encountered. I am a brand new student to CCP attempting to sign up for classes. I went in to speak with an «Academic Counselor» because I am changing majors. I have been out of school for quite a while. She was the rudest woman I have ever met in my entire life. I didn’t receive her name because she didn’t give it (probably had complaints before). I was concerned and wanted to make sure I had all my questions answered. She acted as if I was bothering her with my questions and seemed to become frustrated numerous times. Well excuse me but I am paying major money for an education and isn’t that your job!!! On top this she had to the audacity to tell me let me finish as if I had interrupted her. I was fuming at this point. To top it off I went downstairs to sign up for the classes. That went smoothly but then I wanted to make sure my fafsa had gone through. I went to financial aid and this horrible woman at the desk actually scolded me like a child and told me to move my papers I had given her, she then proceeded to get angry with me because I had to look up my student number (I am a new student!!!). She then tells me there is a problem with my fafsa and apparently I had signed up for Fall. I asked her what can I do because I don’t want to be dropped from my classes and she told me to go to the cashier and pay the $ 1350.00 for the classes. She offered no assistance whatsoever. I am a grown woman and I was in tears when I left this place. I have never been treated so poorly in my whole life. If there are any other options for colleges avoid this school at all costs!

I credit CCP for my success! I love this college and would have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for the horrible financial aid department! I so do not miss dealing with them! As I move towards the last year of graduate school I can’t help but credit my humble beginnings and the great professors at CCP for where I stand today both education and career wise! It was people like Deborah Rossi (Department Head, Allied Health, and Program Director, Medical Assisting Program) that helped me get where I am today. She was there for me every step of the way even when I tried to call it quits! Great classes, great professors, and call me crazy but good food trucks outside… haha

im getting my learn on! 9 out of 10 teachers have been fantastic and many have shown willingness to help students outside of class. Mr. Williams, the head of the business department has been an inspiration and has gone above and beyond to help me succeed. If you show up and do your work you will excel. this school is what you make of it. I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to go here.

I think it’s a little funny to write a review for CCP but I find it only fair to do so since I’m currently enrolled there.
The campus itself is a little dated, the classrooms are not all quite up to current standards. The a/​c isn’t always very cool, but damn the heat works really well. Too well, please turn it down and save some money and energy.
The escalators are their own story and should have a separate review. There is always at least one broken escalator.
The administrative staff, such as Financial Aid and Enrollment Services are horrible. The paper trail at this place is so inefficient it’s mind-​numbing. The Financial Aid and Enrollment Services people are somewhere between rude and very rude, and they are SLOW at the same time. Expect a long wait. These archaic systems for things are probably why students are displeased with customer service. The President/​Board of the College should really have a workshop on customer service.
So why oh why then did I give 4 stars? The faculty and students are simply awesome. i have interacted with some amazing fellow students with big goals that are getting their start here. Every professor I’ve had has been willing to communicate and go the extra mile to help.

I took 2 classes at CCP this year to learn how to make websites. I took CIS-​130 (web page design 1) Steven Horwitz and CIS-​230 (web page design 2) with Mardi Holliday. I was surprisingly impressed by the knowledge I came away with. I went from having little to no HTML skills to knowing how to create an entire website using just HTML (and one also using Dreamweaver). I used my final project to create a website for my company. The first class was very easy if you came to class. There was always time to do the homework in class which was helpful for me. Mr. Horwitz was quirky and interesting. The 2^nd class was much more serious with 2 – 4 hours of homework every week or two. The Ms. Holliday was a very patient, kind and easy to understand instructor. She always encouraged questions and offered help outside of class for those who needed. We had time to work on our homework in class as well, but I always had to do work at home. I recommend both of these classes and teachers.

CCP is ok it got me back into the swing of going to college after I had one unsuccessful stint…
The teachers are very enthusiatic about teaching.
However the staff is very lazy & rude… I work during the day so I couldn’t always go down to the college to sit for 2 hours to solve 1 issue.
Because I was underage I wasn’t eligible to be independent according to FAFSA so the financial aid advisor told me I better have a baby to get independent status EHHHH… Thanks for the wonderful advice…

As a CCP student, I would like to say that this school is really cool. I’m not gonna say it’s like college (because it’s not), but it’s like the high school you always wanted to go to. There is a viral rumor going around that CCP is a bullshit school, and I’m telling you that it’s not. It’s just a medium for kids like me, who don’t think that they’re ready for the pressure of a university yet, and just wanted to get a taste of the real deal. If I were to go to a university right out of high school I would fail, not because I don’t have the intellect, but for a university, you need proper study skills and a mentality to learn, not just for the class, but for the rest of your life. CCP teaches you that. This school saved my education.. . I love it!!!

Ahh, CCP.
It’s true, CCP isn’t half bad, but might also not be half good.
Hooray for the effort of the City of Philadelphia, and Michael Nutter’s education initiatives. The Community College is expansive and a great tool for the city. Unfortunately, the College is WAY behind in terms of technology, course offerings, and customer service. As far as community colleges go, you ought to just pay extra to go to Montco or Bucks. CCP isn’t really even that cheap. It’s almost as much as Temple! The operations in registration, financial aid, etc. are half-​hearted and behind the times. The College needs a serious update. Hopefully it’s in the works.
