Droughies Pizza

Full disclosure, this review is ONLY for their single slices. I’ve been on a bit of a quest lately to find the best slice in Philly; well, the NorthEast part of it anyway, and I’ve come across WAY more pretenders than contenders. But, Droughies is far and away leading the pack at the time of this writing. (By the by; how the hell do you pronounce the name of this place? «Druggies?» If so, thats unfortunate.) Anywho, I stopped in here to grab the 2 slice and a soda, $ 3.50 special (whoo hoo!). The slices came out quick and are even jazzed up with this circular sauce pattern on the pizza. The dough was «toothsome» (I love that word), which is a big checkmark for me. I hate dough that is either flaccid or crunchy. If I wanted a wet tortilla or a cracker, I would’ve ordered that, but Droughies gets the crust perfect. The sauce is the, «delicious with just a hint of sweetness» kind, and the cheese tastes like actual cheese. AND, no orange grease dripping off the slice!
I can’t give 5 stars for the entire establishment because I’ve only had the slices, but if their other offerings are as good as their pies, you could probably do a lot worse. Highly recommended.
