Denise at The Eyeglass Works is wonderful! My mother-in-law had recently moved to Philadelphia from North Carolina and was frustrated with the way her eyeglasses fit. Denise was incredibly patient, sweet and helpful as she tried to re-fit three(yep, 3) different glasses to my mother-in-law’s satisfaction(none of which, I should mention, were actually purchased here). Never once did she make us feel rushed or like an inconvenience. She even recommended an optometrist close to my mother-in-law’s new apartment so that she can have her prescription checked. Thanks to Denise’s sweet, thoughtful service you can bet that we will be back when my mother-in-law needs new frames, and I will be happy to recommend both her and the shop to others. Thank you Denise!!!

I just bought a pair of glasses at the Eyeglass Works. The person who helped me find the glasses was AWESOME — she was honest, knew exactly what to let me try on and was right on about fashion/style trends. I ended up with a great pair of glasses that are trendy, yet won’t be out of season tomorrow. Their selections are way better than anywhere else. They have a lot of trendy/fun/classy glasses that you won’t find elsewhere. Overall…this place is AWESOME!!!

My experience with The Eyeglass Works was strictly business. I walked in there one sunny afternoon a week and a half ago, prescription in hand, intent on buying the Larrabee by Oliver Peoples(in Horn, for those who are wondering). I had tried them on beforehand, and my mind was made up. I asked for them, I tried them on, I tried on a few other pairs just to be sure, I made up my mind once and for all, I turned over my prescription, I opted for anti-reflective lenses, I paid. The entire process took less than 20 minutes. Only 5 days later, I got the call that they were ready for pickup. As much as I wanted to bolt to Manayunk that very evening, I had to wait until the following day… Which turned out to be the eve of Snowpocalypse, Part III*. I called ahead to make sure they were going to be open by the time I arrived from Center City… They couldn’t be sure, but they offered to give me a call if they decided to head out early. Turns out I made it just in the nick of time. I like to think they stayed open just for me; then again, I’m a narcissist. BOTTOMLINE: The Eyeglass Works has hundreds of frames, friendly and helpful salespeople, and is an overall excellent eyeglass shop. PROTIP: There is a «10% Off» coupon on their website. Print it and use it! *We all know this petered out, but people were freaking out at the time.

Here is the store where I found the glasses of my dreams, the glasses that were made for me, the glasses that brought me from the foul world of cheap wire frames to the world of designer eyewear. I love my frames, and the Eyeglass Works is the only place where I’ve ever seen them on display. In fact, they have hundreds of frames on display. The walls are covered in them, and the staff doesn’t care if you move from wall to wall trying on as many as you like. I visited on a Saturday and it was quite busy. Customers were talking to the staff like they were friends, very warm ambiance. They have flattering spot lighting to make you look lovely in the mirror, which helps them sell their colorful wares. Plastic and wire in orange, purple, red, blue – any hue your little heart desires, including boring old silver and black. The menswear selection was nowhere near as large as womens. Too bad for you, fellas! Just 4 stars because they don’t take insurance. That’s not cool.
