As a student at Drexel, the closest place to grab lunch in between classes is the attached Hahnemann hospital cafeteria. While quite convenient and reasonably priced, majority of the staff is unfortunately less than adequate. With turtle-paced service, rude expressions, and an air that you trying to pay for your meal is an extreme bother to their existence, these employees make my daily encounter less enjoyable. Fortunately there is one exception who is James. He works the fry station Monday-Friday and is AH-MAZING. He remembers my order every day with asking, always has a genuine smile on, and inquires not only about my day but about my life(in a total non-creeper way). Without James, I probably would make a larger effort to avoid this place.

I have eaten at many hospital cafeterias lately, and I must say that this one isn’t too bad. They have a made-to-order sandwich bar, good hot food selections, soups that are changed daily, and a great(but expensive) salad bar. I like that many of their options are healthy and vegetarian/pescetarian friendly. They also have a daily sandwich, apple or chips, and drink combo for around $ 5 which is a good deal. The staff members are also very friendly and try to keep the lines moving as quickly as possible(although I do find the sandwich line to be pretty slow).

I spent the summer participating in a public health internship @ Drexel, and although I was tempted several times by the Asian food cart on the corner of 15th and Race, I decided against it. This cafeteria is inside the Hospital and Medical School, and for hospital food, it’s quite good. Actually, it’s good regardless of the locale. I had heart-healthy meals which would cost you half-a-lung — salmon, rice and veggies for less than $ 7!!! All the entrees have a calorie/sodium/fat count, so you can judge for yourself. I took off one star for the veggies which sometimes were soggy(like they were boiled) and the soups, although delicious, are much higher in the sodium content than listed. If I didn’t bring my lunch from home, I had an affordable and healthy lunch in the neighborhood. P. S. If you’re not a student/staff of Drexel or not visiting a patient, it may be difficult to access this cafeteria as access to the building requires a reason for your visit.

Ehh. If you have to go… if there is nothing else… then I guess it’s alright. Otherwise, you’re better off going to Joe’s pizza across the street.

It’s not bad — I think the same people run it as ran my old cafeteria at JP Morgan(not Aramark — but some other big conglomerate food service thing). They have a salad bar, a «Jazzman’s Coffee» bar, a pizza station, grill(with greasy burgers and junk food), a hot entrée(today it was fried fish), and several grab ‘n go foods like salads, SUSHI(from Bumblefish — not bad!) and parfaits. It a pinch — it’s great as I live nearby. Open from 6:30AM — 7 Pm but by 6PM the pickin’s get slim — it’s better for lunch.

As far as hospital cafeterias go, Hahneman does a bang-up job. The specials are usually pretty decent(Asian dishes, brownie sundae bar, taco salad, etc) and variable. The salad bar is standard, and will occasionally disappoint, but everything is fresh and there is frequently something interesting in addition to the usual fare(fried corn, marinated mushrooms, antipasti salad, etc). The sandwiches are good, but expect a long wait. I can’t speak to the entrees but they seem popular. Chocolate cookies are awesome. The prices are fine, nothing exorbitant but not spectacularly cheap either. All in all, if you work at Drexel’s Center City campus it’s a good bet if you want to avoid the lunch trucks.
