I cannot say enough wonderful things about Robert, Iris and Nicole at Harry Merrill and Son. It was a fantastic experience and the staff was so warm and friendly and worked with me through the process.
I got my fiancé’s grandmother’s estate ring resized and detailed here. When they were done it looked like new! It was even ready for my upcoming visit to my fiancé. I was so pleased and now am wearing it on my right hand every day.
I loved working with them so much that I also got my engagement ring custom designed and made there. I had a general idea about what I wanted but was generally pretty clueless. They were so patient and worked with me showing me different diamonds, settings and looking at pictures with me for inspiration and were never pushy. When I picked up my ring (in time for Christmas! Only about a 3 week turn around!) it was everything I could have imagined and so incredibly beautiful.
My fiancé and I were both blown away by the service and quality here and I plan to go in the future for any jewelry needs I have :)

Dealing with jewelers can be intimidating. You seldom know what you are looking at, let alone a fair price for it, unless you are in the business.
Harry Merrill & Son, a third generation enterprise on South 8^th Street in Jewelers’ Row, does its best to make the experience of shopping and buying from them as informative and relaxing as possible (Let’s face it, when spending a lot of money some anxiety is bound to creep in). They are in no rush to sell you anything. They ask plenty of questions to understand what you want, and are willing to show you many alternatives on the way to honing in on the bauble you seek. And, if they don’t have exactly what you want, they can probably find it quickly and still make a good deal.
I have visited them a lot of late for a variety of reasons, and discovered that Rob Schwartz (Don’t blame him for his predecessors choosing an Anglicized name for the family shop) is open and genuine; that his mother is still hard at work and has an amazing knowledge of the Philadelphia gem scene over many generations, and that the rest of his staff is well trained in people skills. They make the jewelry purchase experience as transparent and no-​pressure as possible.
Always comparison shop, but when you are ready to buy, be sure to visit Merrill. You may find yourself wishing that you went there first.

A treasure on Jewelers Row, this is the finest jeweler I’ve encountered. Robert Schwartz is the third generation at this family owned business. He brought taste, tact, and creativity to creating my son’s engagement ring. With CAD and craftsmanship, he produced a one-​off ring using stones from family rings. He has been just as attentive to the several small requests I have brought him. I’ll look for opportunities to do more business with the family.

My boyfriend (now fiancé) recently proposed and he chose to work with Harry Merrill & Son as our jeweler. My fiancé had nothing but wonderful things to say about the engagement ring shopping process with Harry and his team. They are patient, kind, and wanted everything about the day to be perfect. We actually chose to get our wedding bands from them as well, so I got to meet the team too! I feel incredibly confident knowing that the pieces of jewelry that I will wear for the rest of my life were found and designed here. We will definitely be using them for all of our jewelry needs in the future and I will happily recommend them to everyone!

Everyone at Harry Merril & Son was welcoming and a great help in the selection of the perfect engagement ring. Robert and all worked with me to understand what I wanted and stuck with me for a few days and design changes. The final result is beautiful, custom, and was optimized for my budget. We shopped for my and my wife’s wedding and engagement rings EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE and there is no one who is more honest and forthcoming with quality and honest character than Harry Merrill & Sons. If you want a mature, honest and economical experience, don’t waste your time. Go in the store and tell them what you want and need and they will make it a reality and they stand behind their work 1000%. I can’t stress enough how confident I feel regarding ANY repair, or purchase when it comes to jewelry of any kind. You can waste your time but if you are smart you will go here first and get EXACTLY what you want at a fair price with the reputation and quality you would expect that is so hard to find these days. My husband and I custom designed my engagement ring with Harry Merrill & Sons. We were so thankful to work with an artist that respected both our budget and our slightly «non-​traditional» tastes. We purchased our wedding bands here as well, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out! The entire staff has been so helpful with re-​sizings, polishings, and basic maintenance. Highly recommended!

We purchased my engagement and wedding ring from Harry Miller and we were nothing but satisfy recently after having a baby I went back to have my rings resized and Rob did a wonderful job. they were very friendly and professional. I just wanted to say how impressed I am with my engagement ring from Harry Merrill & Son Jewelers. They finished my custom ring within two weeks so that the timing of the proposal could be perfect! It’s a beautiful custom peach sapphire with diamond halo in rose gold. They were even able to incorporate my grandmothers diamonds on the sides and added custom engraving done by hand! Everyone tells me it’s the most beautiful ring they’ve ever seen. Not only did they do a FANTASTIC job, but my fiancé had nothing but wonderful things to say about everyone over at Harry Merrill and Son. They worked with him diligently to make this custom ring absolutely perfect– and it was!

Robert and Nicole made the process as easy as possible and effortlessly worked around our schedules to complete the ring within a tight timeframe. We went looking for a wedding band, first time on Jewelers Row, and found the most perfect band at Harry Merrill Jewelers. We did not feel one bit of pressure to purchase the ring which put us at ease trying to make the right selection. They were very accommodating with our purchase such as with the engraving, delivery etc. and we will definitely go back there for any special jewelry for the future.

I could not have possibly chosen better jewelers than Robert and Nicole at Harry Merrill & Son to do a custom engagement ring. The ring is gorgeous, my fiancé loves it, and Robert and Nicole made the entire process not only stress-​free, but fun and enjoyable. Let me set the stage here. Philly is a significant city for me and Jodi (my fiancé) — we met here, we went to school here, and we plan to live here. For those reasons I knew I wanted to get her ring on historic Jewelers Row. I sold Robert Flyers tickets randomly through craigslist a few years ago and got a great vibe from him at the time (it helped that he is a Flyers fan). I made a mental bookmark and saved his business card. Flash-​forward to April 2014, I looked up his shop on Unilocal to read some great reviews and decided to start my engagement ring shopping there. Following my visit in April, it became the first and last place I looked.
Other than my own limited internet research, I began the process of engagement ring shopping 1) knowing absolutely nothing about rings, 2) knowing absolutely nothing about diamonds, and worse yet, 3) having zero recommendations on a trusted family/​friend jeweler. I feel like most guys are in this boat and it can be overwhelming and terrifying… which is why it is crucial to find a good jeweler. I certainly found one in Harry Merrill & Son.
Robert and Nicole did a great job educating me on the basics of diamonds and ring design, providing me the knowledge to make informed decisions on my own after having zero baseline knowledge in this realm. They answered questions with ease. They gave me honest feedback along the way (the good and bad). They provided design renderings of my ring and PROMPTLY made adjustments to the design per my feedback. They never pushed me to make decisions. They never tried to «up-​sell» me on more expensive diamonds and ring options. They were prompt to respond to minor and major questions via e-​mail, even on weekends and days the shop was closed. They worked with my budget. They were flexible with payment/​deposit options and timing. I ALWAYS felt that their #1 priority was my satisfaction and creating the perfect ring. They achieved both.

My fiancé and I were very impressed with both the service and quality at Harry Merrill. They accommodated our somewhat unusual request without any hesitation (a pair of Mobius strip wedding bands in palladium, where mine was set with a row of tiny diamonds in the twist). They turned out gorgeously and both Nicole and Rob were great to work with. The price was very reasonable and they patiently and cheerfully answered all of our questions.
We live in Connecticut but that was no problem at all, as Nicole sent us pictures of both the CAD drawings and the final product, and they even had wax models ready for us when we were able to take a trip down to Philadelphia. Would definitely recommend.

Everyone looking for fine jewelry (especially wedding rings!) should go to Harry Merrill & Son. They were wonderful to work with. My fiancé and I got our wedding rings made here, and they turned out beautifully. The staff was very friendly and helpful, not pushy at all (unlike some of the jewelers we visited on Jeweler’s Row). They took the time to get to know us and made everything feel very personal. I’m so glad we found them!
Rob and Nicole helped me design a ring that fit my budget and my dreams. They really went above and beyond. This is my third time purchasing jewelry from rob. This time was a fairly big deal because it was for an engagement ring… amd if you’re a guy, you know what a nerve racking ordeal this can be!
Rob was fantastic. Friendly and personal, he spent almost 2 hours helping us through the decision making process. When he didn’t have the perfect diamond I was looking for, he made a call and had a selection of exactly what I was looking for in 10 minutes.
Jewelers Row can be an intimadating place but here you can relax and trust you’re getting a great deal and building a relationship wuth a jeweler you’ll come back to time after time!

I have now purchased two different rings via internet from Nicole. She is outstanding; she goes above and beyond for her customers. She sent me multiple pictures of different engagement ring possibilities for the most recent purchase, and made sure that I absolutely understood what was important when buying a diamond. When I wanted to look for rings closer to home, just to make sure I was getting what I really wanted, she was totally understanding and even answered questions about other rings. I never felt pressured and she was so patient.
When I purchased the first ring from Nicole, a few months ago, there were some shipping issues. She bent over backwards to make sure that my ring was delivered to me promptly and correctly, including calling UPS to find out what happened and why my ring wasn’t delivered when it should have been.
We are thinking of planning a trip to Philly solely because we want to get our wedding bands from Harry Merrill and Nicole!

The first time I came here I was looking to get a loose stone set in a ring. Every other shop I went to tried to force me to get basically a bridal set and wanted over $ 1000 to put 1 stone into a new ring. When Robert noticed I was wearing a ring with the same type of birthstone, but of lesser quality, he offered to just swap out the stones. Perfect! They did an amazing job!
It’s hard to find honest businesses, but I trust these guys, and tell everyone about them.
