Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

We love this place. We do the beer flights so we can try lots of beers and it’s a pretty good deal too. I never had a cocktail here but they always look good. They have meatloaf as a special once a week and it is perfection. Get it. You will not be disappointed. We have never had a bad meal here. We bring friends and family here and they love it too. Parking is on the street so keep an eye out for a prime spot!

Iron hill is a great restaurant. The food here is delicious and the prices aren’t ridiculously expensive. It’s fairly priced for how good it is. Their appetizers are what I like most about this place. The cheesesteaks spring rolls are extremely tasty and the loaded nachos are also very good. My favorite entrees would be the meatloaf and the pulled pork which are both delicious. The menu has a wide variety of food so just about anyone can eat here no matter how picky they are. I am a regular here and will be for the foreseeable future.

Bumping this review up to 4 stars. I ended up writing the manager about the incident just to put it on their radar. Within a few days he thanked me for notifying them and offered an apology. He indicated that they will be coaching the particular staff member to improve customer service and offered a gift certificate. I very much appreciate their receptiveness and value of customer service.

I have been to Iron Hill a few times and it is fine for the atmosphere but the food is sub par and the service today was really slow. I had the daily special which wasn’t so special. I would only return for appetizers

Best food in Chestnut Hill, hands down. Hillers think they have a great selection of food up there, but most of it is bland and overpriced. Iron Hill Brewery is appropriately priced and has large portions, so it’s an absolute 5 for me.
I ordered french onion soup and got the sweet potato fries which come with four dipping sauces, all of which were yummy. I also tried their nachos, which were tasty. I went on a Thursday evening so it was pretty crowded but our server was very polite and apologized for the wait (which really wasn’t long at all).
The bar area is small, and it seemed like a lot of people went for the happy hour which made it a little packed in that area. They have a good amount of beer available for those who are beer drinkers!

I have always enjoyed their collection of beers and the food is always good!

«Good, but not great» is how I would describe Iron Hill. I stopped in here for dinner recently after spending a day visiting Chestnut Hill under the impression that it was a local brewpub, which was somewhat of a flawed assumption. I probably should have consulted Unilocal,as it turned out that Iron Hill is something of a small chain, which in retrospect explains a lot about my dining experience here.
The hostess promptly greeted our party of two and offered a choice of seating options. We elected a comfortable booth near the back of the restaurant, and I think this small touch exemplifies the type of service provided. Service was top-​notch from start to finish and they couldn’t possibly have made us feel any more welcome. The atmosphere was similarly excellent. The restaurant had a very sleek and modern décor and was very well kept.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food and beverages didn’t quite match that of the service and atmosphere.
We ordered a sampler of four of their brews (Witbier, Witberry, IPA, and Red Lager) and they were all decidedly average: inoffensive, but uninteresting. All of the brews were fairly light and a bit lacking in flavor. The IPA was probably the best of the bunch, simply because it had the most flavor, but still one of the blander IPAs I’ve had. The Witberry was also decent. It had an interesting flavor, as it was infused with raspberries and other types of fruit, but again too much of a light beer for my taste. The Witbier and Red Lager were rather unmemorable. Really the only thing I remember about either is thinking that they were unmemorable.
That said, I do give Iron Hill a lot of credit for making the craft beer world accessible to non-​craft beer aficionados. If your go-​to beer is Budweiser, Coors, Miller, etc., you will probably really enjoy their beer and it may even serve to inspire an interest in craft beer where it did not exist before. However, if you’re used to all different types of beer styles, you’ll probably be bored by the offerings here. The paper place settings include a detailed diagram of the brewing process and the beer list includes a colorful description of each house brew, so you know exactly what you’re ordering. I really feel more bars and restaurants could use to follow Iron Hill’s example on this point. While I was familiar with all of the types of beer on the menu, I can imagine the descriptions being very helpful to someone who is less familiar with craft beer.
For appetizer, we ordered the Bavarian style pretzels, which came with a side of spicy side of whole grain mustard. Both the pretzels and mustard were highly delicious and paired well with the beer. I definitely would recommend this appetizer.
For my meal, I ordered a bowl-​size portion of their soup of the day which was Lentil soup with ham and sausage. Let me preface this by saying that I am not big on ham and interpreted the menu description to mean that the soup was seasoned with a ham bone (as soups often are). As I would find out, the meaning was far more literal and chopped ham turned out to be a key ingredient of the soup. Obviously, I should have asked our waitress for clarification, but this was a disappointment for me. Even more disappointing was that the soup didn’t seem to contain much sausage. Maybe it was just overpowered by that ham flavor, who knows. I was hungry, so managed to finish the entire serving, but I definitely wouldn’t have ordered the soup had I known this in advance.
My girlfriend ordered a turkey club (smoked turkey, bacon, ham, etc.) in a spinach wrap which she said was good, but far too salty. To me this wasn’t too unexpected, since it contains three salty meats, but in her words «a good restaurant would have been able to mask the saltiness with other seasonings and flavor». Not so sure I understand that, but I guess this fits into the overall theme of «good, but not great».
Unlike other reviewers, I actually thought their prices were fairly reasonable, or at least comparable to what you might find elsewhere. The beer sampler (4 x 4oz samples) was only $ 6, which I think is fair considering they brew on premises. Lentil soup was only $ 5, which was impressive given the size of the portion. Pretzels were $ 6 and $ 12, respectively which is about what I expected.
Overall, a decent place, though I don’t think I will be returning. Great atmosphere and service, but the flagship beer and meal options didn’t quite measure up for me.

A friend and I ordered over the phone of Iron Hill for pickup so maybe it would’ve been better if we’d eaten it then and there but it just wasn’t good. I ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp tempura and my friend got the fish tacos and I think voodoo shrimp. We went our separate ways and ate the food in our own homes but are having the same problem. I feel the oil that was used to make our food was old or something because it was the only thing either of us tasted. It was awful and now we both have stomach aches. I heard great things about this place, even from coworkers who had eaten there only a week before. So maybe it was an off night but I wouldn’t go again.

There was nothing amazing about it. Or especially for those prices. We got the cheesesteak egg rolls which were definitely good but you got 4 tiny pieces for 12 $! I thought that was a bit crazy.
The kids meals were nicely portioned. They were worth the 6.50 $.
I got a salad and that was 14 $ and I was still hungry afterwards. They put chicken on it which was nice but it was literally the smallest piece of chicken I ever saw in my life.
My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and same thing– it was really good but it just wasn’t enough.
All of that cost over 60 $ and we thought that was crazy. We actually called my parents and asked if they still had leftovers. We were starving!
So long story short– the food was very good but it just wasn’t enough.
I don’t know if we will be back or not. We will see!

$ 5 mixed drinks, $ 5 appetizers! Friendly bartendress, nice setting. I’m happy.
I got vodka mixed w cranberry and pineapple juiced and fried Brussels sprouts. My my my. The Brussels sprout are fried in olive oil, lemon and then pecorino cheese sprinkled on top. Mommy would be so happy I’m eating my veggies– and staying hydrated.

Mediocre food at a mediocre chain, except this is the fourth iron hill I’ve been to and has the worst service. I’ve been a server myself and something here is super disorgsnized. After we sat, no one gave us menus for 20 minutes. Finally after someone came and took our order, another server came 2 minutes later and handed us menus again. We asked for water, and she came with 3 for the 4 of us.
Your basic place when you want a basic hangout.

I was a little disappointed by the food here. I got the salmon burger which overwhelmingly tasted like ginger and my dinner companion’s burger was way overcooked. The burger was also 14 bucks which I thought was a bit steep for an underwhelming cheeseburger. I did stop in at the location in Media and got the salmon salad which was pretty outstanding. The service however has always been excellent as is the beer.

For some reason, I liked this location of Iron Hill’s more than others. Maybe because their other locations always seem to be very busy & loud. I came here for an early dinner/​appetizer, which happened to be around «happy hour» time. It didn’t seem especially busy, which to me, is a good thing.
The bar seating area is rather small, compared to the number of spaces for tables in the place, so it seemed to be a bit cramped to me, but not overflowing with people. There seemed to be plenty of space for groups at tables/​booths.
Though I’m not a huge fan of IH’s beers, I did try two of their seasonals, their Belgian, & an Autumn/​winter beer, forget the names. They were good, but not something I’d go bonkers over. Although I just had an appetizer, the stuffed mushrooms, they were very well prepared, and were very tasty. Their menu has seemed to change a bit from time to time, or location to location, which is a good thing. At least they’re trying new things out. I also like that they specifically note vegan/​vegetarian items on the menu. Prices are a bit on the high — end of normal though; not overpriced, but on the upper end of what I’d consider reasonable for the meal/​location.

I entered on a whim, and was pleasantly greeted. Always a good start. Given its on-​site brewery, I decided to take a leap and try a few of their brews, both seasonal and regular– Cinderella’s Carriage, Witberry and Pumpkin Ale (cuz why not?)
Of the three, I leaned towards Witberry for its wonderfully strong wheaty flavor, but it seems beer is being a rough thing to agree with my taste buds. All the same, I was extremely grateful for my server, Sam’s, patience and kindness. Not to mention there was no fee on trying the small samples of beer; many thanks!
I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was lovely to taste the smoke and charcoal flavor in the meat. Not overburdened with sides, and settling in the end with a nice, non-​high fructose corn syrup root beer, I enjoyed every morsel and wonderful service.
I intend to visit again whenever I’m in town next!

In love with this place. My boyfriend and I came here for the first time last month for drinks and dessert. Although incredibly busy, the bartender was very attentive and wasn’t phased by our drink order (yes, we’re those people that ask for a special concoction). The brownie sundae was delicious.
We brought our friends for dinner last weekend. It was busy but we snagged a table in the bar area (you seat yourself). My boyfriend and our two friends all loved their pumpkin beers and I loved my white sangria. Friends got the chicken gumbo soup and apple butternut squash soup to start and we all snuck a bite – both we SO good.
As for entrees, there wasn’t a complaint around. Friends ordered a chicken pot pie to split and it was served in two smaller bowls – each got their own smaller pot pie and it was the perfect size.
I got the seafood pot pie and it was amazing and full of yummy shrimp and scallops, but the seafood didn’t overpower the deliciousness of the pot pie filling itself.
Boyfriend had the lettuce wraps (I think they’re an appetizer) and he loved them.
I saw some kids having small dishes of ice cream for dessert and so of course, I asked the waitress for a dish of mint chocolate chip– it was the best I’ve ever had (not even kidding).
Anyway, we love this place. Food and drinks are amazing, atmosphere is so cool and the staff is wonderful.

This was the last stop on my weekend in Philly. A friend and I came for brunch.
Appearance.
The place was clean and the décor was very sleek with beautiful wood paneling. There are 2 sections, one for self seating and the other is reservations and groups. Both have waited service.
In the self seated area there is a board with all the current beers in production and the availability. Behind the bar area are several large televisions.
The Food.
A nice thing about the brunch is entrees are accompanied by a small muffin and small bowl of fruit.
No drinks a bottomless, which is sad but it’s also not New York so… I guess I understand.
I had pancakes with a side of eggs, simple and appetizing. I will say that I was not a fan of the syrup, it was gross.
My guest had chicken and waffles which she liked though we both agreed that the chicken was a bit on the dry side.
The Service.
The service was great all the way around from the moment we walked in, I was initially served a flat mimos and the manager came over apologized and got me a new one. (though a free one would have been better! *just a friendly suggestion*)
Overall
A great location to check out if you are in the area, great for families it you have little human.

I’m from a place where happy hour does not exist. I know, it’s practically unfathomable but I’m not making it up. So I’m obsessed with happy hour. Iron hill’s is a great value, sure, but they’re really notable for how child friendly they are. Sometimes parenthood finds you, and you don’t want to stop living and eating out, but you also don’t want to be the only a-​holes in the place with kids, getting glares all over the place. Iron Hill always has (happy, generally well-​behaved) families in it. The servers are cool with it, too.
So back to the happy hour part. I’ve never been really disappointed, but the star of the show is without any doubt the cheesesteak egg rolls. When I go with my family, we get 3. Because we each want one. And they’re $ 4. So are the drinks, and they’re excellent. For $ 6 the calamari is good too. But really I usually just want to order 5 cheesesteak egg rolls and eat them all. For an early weeknight dinner with a kiddo, Iron Hill worth checking out.

This time we were at the bar and it was great. The bartender was quick, friendly, & attentive! My friend for a free drink for her birthday, too.

Very pleased! It is a pleasure every time I come in here. *It is busy on a daily basis so call ahead, if you can.* You can sample beers & ciders (cider is my bizz)– all locally brewed. The happy hour deals are cool and worth the dollars.
