Koco Nail Salon and Wax Studio

This place gets 4 stars on the strength if Onisha being the bomb. Buuuuut my experience today? I got my eyebrows done. The place I usually go to in center city was closed so I figured that I would go to Koco because I’ve had such great experiences there in the past. My eyebrows are naturally thick but they have a good shape. When the woman asked me what did I want done, I said I wanted my eyebrows cleaned up. At Every place I’ve ever gone to to get my eyebrows waxed or threaded, cleaned up has meant the same thing: keep the same shape. This chick just reshaped my eyebrows!!! I didn’t say «do whatever looks nice». I specifically asked her to clean them up.
So now I get to go take my ID picture with these thin lines of hair on my face.
Also, I asked her about the HD brows (since I got the classic) and she was very flat. She said «it’s just an eyebrow tint». If I’m asking about it then maybe I’m interested in it. But whatever! I’ll be back there to get my nails done only!

I’ve been twice both times mani/​pedi. My first experience was great my tech was kenysha (prob spelled wrong) she did a good job plus I loved the way she shaped my toes my nails too. This time my tech was Roxane that was the most painful mani I’ve ever experienced not painful like I’m going to cry but painful none the less. My toes & nails aren’t shaped good or equal to other fingers which pisses me off. I also wanted the opi infinite which is suppose to last up to 10days (no gel) she couldn’t get the polish open so went & tried to just put a regular polish on me which I didn’t like. One I paid the extra for the opi why would u do that. she yanked my hands the entire time she did my mani she filed so damn hard my skin burned ugh. I will be back but I WON’T go to roxy again. Her own nails isn’t even done for goodness sake that shoulda been a red flag for me.
I wana give this 3stars so bad but my 1^st experience was too good so I won’t do em like that.

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at Koco. Keisha was gentle, thorough and we has a great time talking together. The Kelly Shot pedicure was so luxurious and gentle. My feet look and feel very good. And my hel manicure is fab. My daughter got the HD Brow treatment along with the Jelly Shot and hard wax. She was extremely pleased. Well it is safe to say the Koco has two new customers.

After a year in the area, I have finally found the perfect place and perfect nail expert. I even waited till my third visit before providing a feedback, as to make sure the consistency was present. Onisha does a beautiful job on my nails, is always pleasant and high spirited, and runs a great salon. Everyone that works there is always so polite and friendly — they look like they enjoy their job and their surroundings. I’d give more stars if available!

Had my brows done today! I am what some people would call a brow enthusiast and I simply cannot have my curly brows too thin given my large features. Onisha has yet to disappoint as she’s quite an artist and extremely pleasant to speak to. Very pleased with the timely on point service.

Let me start this review by saying I was kinda nervous to come here. I was looking for a new nail salon & decided to look on here for help. A few places popped up & Koco caught my eye. It was less than a 10 minute drive from my grandma’s house & I liked the pictures I saw. HOWEVER, my hesitation came from the Unilocal reviews. They were either AMAZING or downright TERRIBLE. I’m so glad I decided to give Koco’s a try.
Beforehand: I decided to visit their website to book my appointment. Kudos for having an amazing web page! It’s very user friendly. I really enjoyed being able to click on an option to read more about the service. This not only took away the guess work but it also made me realize how much Koco’s employees care about their customers.
First Impression: I’ve read that some people thought Koco’s was located in a sketchy part of town. As I already said, my grandma’s is about 3 miles away so I wasn’t concerned about my safety. I had no problem finding this cute location nor did I have a problem finding parking.
Brazilian: I decided to start my Friday morning by getting my lady bits waxed. My appointment was at 10:00AM & I was seen right on time. I was led in the back by Roxann. She put on the AC & explained what she was doing step by step. She was very sweet & made my waxing experience wonderful (yes, I said wonderful) They use hard wax which is great & it smelled like cocoa. The whole thing only took 15 minutes (but they allotted 30 minutes) & was virtually pain free. A+
Full set: I decided to switch up & get an acrylic sculptured glass set. Steffany is such a doll! We talked the whole time & I felt like I made a new friend! She took my old nails off & made it painless! I asked her for a little length & boy did she deliver! They’re longer than what I expected but I could have spoke up but I like the drama they add. I chose to add color & it came out better than I could have imagined. A+
Pedicure: Lastly, I decided to get a jelly shot pedi. Kenysha (we have the same name, just different spellings!) did an amazing job. Once again, I felt like I was playing catch up with a friend! We chatted & I was offered a beverage that was greatly appreciated. I told her to pick a nail polish for me and I was very happy with her choice! It’s a beautiful bright orange/​coral that just so happens to match my dress. A+
If you’re in a rush, this is NOT the place for you. If you want to relax, unwind, & chit chat with new friends, do yourself a favor & make an appointment at Koco’s!

I scheduled an appointment online and received no confirmation. They took a $ 20 deposit and that’s it. I called 4 times to confirm my appointment and sent an email but no responses. I have yet to hear from them or get a refund. Please avoid.

Awesome service. I come here to relax and get beautiful every 2 weeks. Love the nail art and the jelly pedicures. The hard wax is awesome. It doesn’t even hurt. I book appointments online and I am seen at my appointment time. Couldn’t ask for better service.

I have eyebrows! I have eyebrows!!! I mean, anyone can draw on eyebrows (with skill) but these are far from drawn on and I never noticed that I needed them until I threw caution to the wind and got them henna’d in. I’m impressed and my toes have never felt so good. My next visit will definitely be for the complete pampering experience (hands, feet and brows again). Onisha, the owner did my brows and a young lady with braids did my feet. She did such a great job and recommended an awesome summer color. I’m sorry I didn’t remember her name but I surely gave her a well deserved tip. I will definitely come back. Oh, did I mention they offered some good wine? My friend and I are hooked: o)

My, oh my, pampered? I sincerely enjoyed myself! Nice, clean, spacious, fumes free, and staff that knows their craft and does it WELL to the T! The young lady «Ty» hooked me up! I asked her «what can You do?». She replied «i do it all» with so much confidance! Koco has gained a jersey costumer!

This is my first time here at Koco Nail Salon. I had the Hot Koco pedicure and it was wonderful! It was so relaxing. I’ve never had hot rocks before and it was a great experience. Thanks Keisha for such a wonderful experience.

I love everything about this place the owner O is awesome so sweet and full of life she has a very welcoming personality she did a great job on my brows check them out you won’t be disappointed at all her staff members are also sweet.

I absolutely love this place. I’ve been coming here for over 2 years and I can’t see myself going anywhere else for my mani and pedi. I enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and BYOB option :-) Never do I feel like my Nail tech is rushing to get me out and service the next guest. I’ve experienced rushing at other salons and have been completely turned off by that practice especially after being nicked one too many times.
I generally go to Beige, (best foot and leg massages IMO) for all of my services but everyone else is great too. They don’t allow children which is a plus for me because this is my place unwind and relax. Did I mention it’s BYOB?
I have had their Brazilian waxing services as well and didn’t experience any breakouts or irritation. The wax they use is the hard strip-​less kind that smells like chocolate.
In closing, between the great service, friendly atmosphere, and inviting environment you’re in for a treat.

I was totally disappointed in this experience. My nail salon of 10+ years closed a few months ago so I’ve been in search of a new salon. Never expecting much from neighborhood salons, I decided to give Koco a try because of the Unilocal reviews.
My appointment time was not honored, I soaked in cold water for the majority of my soaking time, and the results of the pedicure was underwhelming. The tech was very lackluster and basically going through the motions. I selected a simple design from samples the nail tech presented to me and it took a serious left when she applied it. Also, there was no top coat applied so less than a week later, my paint is starting to chip and look really crappy which totally defeats the purpose.
The pricing and long list of salon rules gives the perception this is an above average experience, however the delivery of that perception is absolutely lacking. There is a ton of opportunity for improvement from the cleanliness of the space to the management of checkout process.
The one and only highlight was the wonderful aroma of the cocoa incorporated into the Kocoholic pedicure. I am a busy working girl that does not mind spending time and money for a little fabulousness but this was absolutely not worth it. I can not think of a reason I would return to this salon for service.

My experience with getting my eyebrows tinted here did not go over so well. The person who did my eyebrows, Natalie, was a very sweet girl but I feel as though she was a little inexperienced. I specifically asked to keep my eyebrows as thick as they were when I walked in and that is not what i walked out with. She kept waxing my eyebrows and when I said to her that they were getting too thin at the ends, she said something about just going over what she had already done. my eyebrows are uneven, thin and look just ridiculous. My friend, also, went with me and after 25 mins, Stephanie told her that because of her dark skin, the brow tinting would not take and so she couldn’t finish the service. She waxed her brows over to very thin brows and then still made her pay $ 10 for the service although she didn’t do anything but ruin her eyebrows. Nice salon but My friend and I won’t be going back and we’re both pretty pissed at how my eyebrows look!

There aren’t enough good things to say about Onisha, her entire staff, and the salon as a whole! It’s cute, well lit, and CLEAN. I look forward to every appointment I make. The work is UNPARALLELED! From manicures, acrylics, and 3d art (O and Stephanie SLAY nails) mani pedi’s, to waxing and hd brows.
I highly review for nails, but I would recommend the shop for all of their services as they are fantastic at what they do. As well as professional. I’m there for my rebalance (fill) every two weeks and I am never disappointed. Ever. I literally get to go, relax, and get my nails done. Then walk out to compliments. Easy enough.

This was my first pedi at Koko and it sure won’t be my last, I love the variety on luxurious pedicures to choose from. Ranging from $ 25-​$ 65 I got the Koko with chocolate infused scrubs and massage oil. Love my gel mani as well, I’ve had about three from other salons before where the gel Polish just melted off.
I was sure that gel manicures wasn’t for me, but as I can see quality makes all the difference, even the time every staff member at Koko takes to perform your services makes you feel valued, not like they’re just trying to make a dollar and get the next guest in the chair. Everything at this salon is of quality, so the price does not bother me at all. This is my third or fourth visit to Koko and I really love this place. As long as I live in the area I will be a frequent guest at Koko.

Lovely ladies that work here. Onisha (the owner), Natalie & Stephanie were so attentive and personable. I had the best time ever!
First, the Brazilian waxing by Natalie. This wax smelled like chocolate (heaven!). It’s a beeswax that doesn’t stick to your skin, it’s sticks to the hair. It didn’t take long and it looked so flawless when she was done! She made the experience easier by just talking to me and before I knew it she was done!
Next, I got a Hot Koco pedicure & a Kocoholic manicure by Stephanie. Look, she is very detail oriented and if you’ve never tried those services, you are denying yourself greatness! The Hot Koco pedi included a hot rocks massage of the feet, a chocolate Shea butter scrub that Onisha makes herself (that smells soooo delectable) as well as some other goodies that you just have to try for yourself! The Kocoholic mani included a paraffin wax dip for my hands. I had the best appointment ever here.
Would I come back? Most definitely!
Would I recommend to others? OF COURSE!

Went here a few months ago, so my review is a little delayed.
It was a clean and well maintained shop.
I got a jelly pedicure which was a really neat experience. I didn’t think the chairs were the most comfortable, but that’s my personal preference for the kind that recline. The tech did an OK job, but when cleaning under my nails, she pushed too hard and caused the nail to bend, the next day, it had snapped off, ruining my fresh pedi.
She didn’t do a very good job removing my previous gel manicure (from another salon) which was a dark color, so when she did my new gels, you could see the dark color through it.
I was unimpressed and felt rather put off by some of their policies. It almost seems like they have this vibe of «we’re doing you a favor by letting you come here!» It shouldn’t be that way, the customer should be treated better…
I won’t be back.

I’m a huge supporter of minority-​owned small businesses so it pains me to write this review. Koco Nail Salon and Wax Studio was a huge disappointment. It was even more disappointing since there were so many great Unilocal reviews for this place, especially for Alicia, so I was really looking forward to trying out a new salon.
Yesterday, I made a 5:30pm appointment. Around 5pm, I called to see if I could shift it to 5:45−6pm because I hit unexpected traffic on the way. The women who answered the phone talked to the person I made the appointment with (Alicia) and said 5:45pm was fine.
I ended up getting there right on time — 5:45pm on the dot. At 6:35pm, I left because I still had not been seen by the woman I made an appointment with. Inexcusable. There is no point of making an appointment if you are going to make me wait that long.
Not only did I have to wait that long, no one approached me until 6:15pm to address the issue that I clearly had been sitting there for a long time. I was told Alicia decided to take a walk-​in appointment and I had to wait another 10 minutes. Clearly frustrated, I said I would wait. Keep in mind, no apologies were given for the inconvenience. I was never offered anything to drink or read either. Just sitting there watching the time go by.
After 10 minutes, I was still waiting. Even an additional 10 more minutes, still no service (6:35pm). I then told the receptionist that I was leaving. She said «ok» and made no eye contact or apologies — so I walked out. I was made to feel like I was a huge inconvenience.
Aside from the lack of actual service, I question if the place is up to code. When you walk in, you are immediately hit in the face with the smell of nail polish and acetone. It actually made me feel sick. I looked around and walked to the bathroom and noticed the place has no ventilation system to funnel out the toxic fumes.
If they would have said sorry, or done anything really, to acknowledge the poor service, I would have given them a second chance and booked another appointment. Not once did Alicia herself talk to me. But with service and attitude like that, there’s no point in booking another appointment. There are too many great small businesses in the area to have to put up with that.

Nothing about my review was amateur — as a review by nature is opinion based. It was a detailed description of my — not anyone else’s — experience. Simply put, your business failed every step of the way. Your immature comment on my review only amplifies the rude customer service I originally received.
I did my due diligence to move my appointment. I point blank asked if it was ok to move the time or reschedule and YOUR technician said 5:45 was available. If it was not available, she should not have made that new appointment. It’s as simple as that. You do not leave customers waiting around for almost an hour. It’s not acceptable — ever.
If you have bad service, expect bad reviews. That’s not bullying, it’s a consequence. Learn the difference. You also don’t get to be upset that I said I support minority business — and because it was a bad review — infer I’m being a racist. But then thank others who said they support minority businesses in their GOOD reviews. Contradictory don’t you think?
For the record, I’m a minority — not that that should make a difference because this had NOTHING to do with race and everything to do with bad service. And, your comment about beverages just tells me you have no idea what good customer service is. Of course it’s not policy — it’s about providing good customer service. I noticed everyone in there had a beverage, but me.
Regardless — your business made multiple mistakes and even after all that you have the audacity to throw a tantrum on Unilocal instead of properly apologizing and addressing the issue? As a small business owner myself, I can tell you a business is more defined by how they respond to a negative situation than a good one. You see their true colors in that moment and your response to my review speaks volumes about you and Koco Nail Salon and Wax Studio.
