General Tso’s Chicken Combo Platter Items Subtotal: $ 9.00 Delivery Fee: $ 1.00 Sales Tax: $ 0.80 Tip: $ 2.62 Total: $ 13.42 Ordered from grubhub, late night, delivery was fast. I think for most people the General Tso’s Chicken Combo platter deserves a 3 stars. It’s ok. There are a lot of better places and there are certainly a lot of places that are worse when it comes to this platter. However, the sauce had a color and flavor… I can only describe as tangy that I really didn’t care for. It certainly was unique and I’d bet a free order of general tso’s that I could blindly pick out maple star’s general tso chicken from an assortment of 10 other places. This may be a good thing if you are tired of the same old dark brown general tso sauce, but for me. I didn’t like the taste and won’t be ordering it again. Another downfall is the pork fried rice. I had eaten too quickly to count the number of pieces of pork in the pork fried rice, but I would suspect that it’s in the single digits. This really shouldn’t be called pork fried rice. Have you ever ordered a pepperoni pizza and as you are eating it you find an piece of onion or a piece of sausage under a pepperoni slice? It’s like«well they probably top the pizzas very fast at the same location and a piece of sausage accidentally got in the pie» — That is what their pork fried rice is like. It’s fried rice where«opps» a few pieces of pork accidentally got into the fried rice. Two stars.

Awful, took over an hour for delivery. Didn’t give us sweet n sour sauce on our sweet n sour chicken. The ‘spicy’ general tso chicken wasn’t spicy & was barely room temperature. The pork fried rice had 3 tiny pathetic pieces of meat. Don’t waste your money or time.

I’ve ordered from here twice. Most recently I ordered the Triple Delight(recovering from being a vegetarian) and that is not what I got. I didn’t mind as what they did send was delicious, but if I had an issue with pork it would’ve been a problem. All in all the food was good, delivery minimum and charge was low, service was prompt. I will order from them again and I would recommend.

Maple Star has an extensive menu and delicious food, but I placed an order and it’s been 2 hours and still no food. I’m very disappointed.

I would give Maple Star zero stars if I could. What a sad excuse for an establishment. Ordered food and it took 2 hours to be delivered. When we called the lady said there was nothing she could do about it, refused to compensate us, and hung up. They forgot our drink, didn’t give us any utensils, failed to include sauces we had specifically ordered, and there was no chicken in my chicken fried rice. All of our food was cold. Absolutely livid.

If I could give this place negative 5 stars I could. The chicken definitely wasn’t chicken. I’m getting nauseous even thinking of it. As Temple University would say, «Avoid The Area!»

Got the Ma Po Tofu, and eh. The biggest issue for me was the tofu to sauce ratio. There was so much tofu and rice, but very little sauce. If you can imagine the flavor of eating tofu and rice together, it’s rather bland. It’s also listed as ‘spicy’ on their menu, but is definitely not.

Hi. I am a big fan of Maple Star and a huge fan of their crab meat wontons. I ordered take out today and they gave me no soy sauce and no duck sauce. Also, their mixed vegetable platter had no water chestnuts in it and they are my favorite. It was still good, but I was a bit disappointed.

Great for deliveries in the area. I think they’re the cheapest(lowesst minimum and delivery charge) in the area! The delivery driver also called me twice to verify my address, and let me know he is on the way. Great service. The food is good, and I gotta mention their steamed rice is great. I hate how dry some Chinese places are. they have actual steamed white rice here. +1

I just wanted to write an update review simply because I have discovered a new favorite! Beef with scallion. Loved it. It doesn’t give me that disgusting feeling after I’ve had too much chinese food(I know you all know what I’m talking about!). To be honest, I will say: stay away from the general tso’s chicken(sesame chicken, whatever chicken is breaded and fried and covered in a sticky, sweet sauce). It is terrible here and it becomes less crunchy, and more soggy mess. Everything else I’ve had though, is above fine.

Maple Star is what you expect when you plan to order Chinese take-out. I stopped by to pick up an order recently and was surprised with how clean the restaurant is. It doesn’t seem to be a place where people stay to eat, though there are numerous tables. It’s your run-of-the-mill Chinese place. As far as the food goes(I guess this is the most important part) – I don’t think you can go wrong with anything. Even late into the night when you have to second guess the restaurant being open, the employees are happy enough to fire up their grills and make you what you like. I had the General Tso Chicken combo meal(typical, I know) but was SO happy to open the plastic box and see exactly what I wanted. The combo came with the chicken, a generous portion of fried rice, an egg roll, and fortune cookies. The food is not the healthiest(that’s why it’s so good) but if you’re in the mood for Chinese take-out, this place is pretty decent. I will likely go back next time I’m craving a sodium-packed, soul-pleasing meal.

couldn’t get any worse! I was so hungry before I went in. Then I ordered ‘General Tso’s Chicken’ and it was just horrible. Two ppl could not finish even half of the half plate!!! Above all, it killed my appetite! Never ever go there!

Chinese takeout places are hard to rate on Unilocal. Food — 3 stars Ease of pick-up and ordering — extra ½ star Prices — extra ½ star Overall — 4 stars I get excited when a flyer arrives in my mailbox or door for new Chinese take-outs in my area. I see cheap prices and hope that it’s «the one.» You know what I’m talking about… that undeniably cheap, great tasting, Americanized Chinese food spot that gets the call about twice a month. Maple Star comes close, and it’s the best I’ve had in the Fairmount/Temple area so far. Wonton egg drop was solid, the steamed dumplings are excellent, the eggroll is killer, General Tso’s is average, and the pork fried rice is well above average. It was an easy order over the phone, parking was obtainable, they were fast, and it’s incredibly cheap(particularly if you use a coupon). So when you’re looking for a sinful, binge worthy, Chinese takeout night, try out Maple Star.
