When I gave birth to my son, my husband and I had not yet chosen a pediatrician. Before leaving the hospital a doctor from Nemours Pediatrics came to check on our son, and to ask about his one week check-up. We let her know we hadn’t selected one yet and she recommended coming to Nemours for his first visit. Nemours’ doctors and residents also teach and work at TJU Hospital so it is associated with both. We took her recommendation and scheduled our first appointment over the phone. The woman who took my call was very nice and got all of my information then so when we showed up for the actual appointment there was minimal paperwork. We were given an appointment with Dr. Walmsley, and when we took our son there we loved him! We decided to stay with him even though there are pediatricians closer to our home. As for the office itself, the waiting room is also clean, they have kids’ sized tables and chairs and sometimes put out coloring sheets, crayons, or books. They have signs designating one side of the room for well visits and the other side for sick but I don’t think most people pay attention to that. There are Purex machines available about every 10 feet so that is helpful. The receptionists greet you immediately and take your information, mark that you’re there for your appointment, and call you back only if they need to update information. Usually I am seen within 15 – 20 minutes of arrival whether by doctor or nurse(depending on the visit). My last visit there was a long wait but the doctor explained she was admitting a child to the hospital so things were a little backed up. Everyone always checks on you and if someone is running late they let you know. After my son turned a year old we found out Dr. Walmsley was going back to school for another degree and wouldn’t be around that often. We wanted to stay with the office but wasn’t sure who to see. My son soon after had a sick visit and we saw Dr. Laura Owens, who was also amazing. We’ve been seeing her for the last, and unfortunately she also will be leaving soon as she received a new position elsewhere. I have no worries about seeing any doctors at this location based on my experiences with Drs. Walmsley and Owens. The nurses and techs are great as well, Eva and Robin especially. My son had a milk protein allergy and needed expensive hypoallergenic formula. Eva, Robin, and Dr. Walmsley were able to get me free samples of it at times, and worked tirelessly to try to get the formula covered under my insurance(the insurance company wouldn’t do it but the three of them did everything they could for us). I’ve called a handful of times with questions and they call you back very quickly. I’ve only ever had one«bad» experience, where the tech giving my son a vaccine was very quick, didn’t really talk to us much or comfort my son, just very business-like. It’s not that she was rude or anything, just strange compared to the friendliness and care we normally receive from everyone else there. Nemours has an online portal where you can login to view your child’s medical records(growth chart, vaccines, test results), as well as schedule appointments or ask non-medical emergency questions of the staff. They will also send surveys at times asking about your experience during your last visit. They are very busy, so even with the number of doctors in the offices, I normally have to schedule visits about 3 months prior to when my son needs to go(for example, I just scheduled his 2 ½ month appointment for October). I could not recommend this office or its staff more!
