The Old Pine Community Center is a place where all belong. We are a part of Philadelphia’s fabric and have been bringing people together for over 30 years. We strive to make a profound impact on the community as well as all aspects of life by providing a place for Fun, Fitness, Education and Relaxation! Our mission is to provide programs and services that enrich the lives of others without regard to age, race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, or social status. So whether it is a rental for a wedding, a party, an event or joining a program like afterschool, adult education, or Saturday for Seniors the Old Pine Community Center is always a place where you feel at home.

History

Established in 1977.

The Friends of Old Pine acquired the land along 4th & Lombard Streets during the 1950’s. Plans were discussed and by 1974 the plan was approved to include a large meeting space, gymnasium & locker rooms, kitchen, meeting rooms, library, and office space. The building space was to be shared by Old Pine Street Church and St. Peters School and the basement was allocated to the adjacent Presbyterian Historical Society for its archives. The center is built entirely from private funds.

The Center opened in the fall of 1977. Early programs included the Three Steps Nursery Pre-School Co-op, Saturday for Seniors, and wheelchair basketball. Afterschool care was soon added and in the 1980’s Summer City Camp. The Philadelphia Committee for the Homeless was formed in 1982 and initially worked out of the Center. Twelve step meetings provided support to those battling addiction.

Over the last 30+ years the Old Pine Community Center has gone through many changes but it remains welcoming to all!
