Ovations Salon

Recently got a brazilian wax here. The facilities were super clean. I’m used to grimy back rooms of nail salons, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a chandelier and nice lighting in the waxing room. The brazilian was super quick and as painless as it gets. The treatment lasted about a solid three weeks. I will be going again for sure before my next beach trip!

I got my hair and makeup done for an event. The atmosphere was wonderful. I loved my hair and makeup. I got compliments all night. I felt beautiful. It’s was a treat and a wonderful experience that I will do again.

I have been here for a hair cut and a wax. It was okay. I can’t remember who waxed me, but it was one of my more painful experiences. It was also, by far, the most money I have ever paid for a wax. It’s the first place I have been to that charges different rates for different degrees of bikini waxes, and mine ended up costing more than I thought it would. They have a discount for monthly clients, but it wasn’t enough for me to go back. The hair cut was through Groupon and it was a decent price, they fit me in fast (the text reminder was a nice touch), and it was a decent cut, but honestly it was just a trim so it’s hard to judge. What I did notice was over the course of my appointment there were at first only about 3 stylists, and then all of a sudden there must have been 7 or 8 stylists all working on people and it got incredibly loud in there. I don’t know how I feel about this place. I would consider going back for a haircut, however, I like having a stylist that I can chat with and get to know during the appointment — when it got loud in there it wasn’t really possible to have a conversation.

First off, I’m giving this place 3 stars because of my haircut. I would love to give Lisa, the receptionist, 5 stars because she was great at greeting and handling the timing of my appt. As for my haircut by Katy B, I didn’t like the «cut». Not sure if it was because she knew I was only paying the first time customer price of $ 32? I asked for some framing and thinning out of my thick, asian hair. I left with no framing layers and the length of my hair wasn’t significantly shorter than I asked for. If I ever decide to try this place again, I’ll ask for Kim.

I am so disappointed and so sad… I left the salon without saying anything just thank you because I d not even know how to address the situation. It was my first time even going there I wanted something very very simple. They didn’t deliver and they still charged me so much. For just bleaching my hair. Which it didn’t even come up to color. I should have only done the cut and blowdry but I trusted I was gonna get the look. I have never spend so much in a salon I never treat my self to these thing and I am just sad. The good thing I can say the First Lady treated me nice she even brought me coffee while I waited that’s all.

You guys, I think I’ve settled on a salon! After 2 years of Groupon disasters at other salons (I just can’t bring myself to pay full price for a first time hair experience), I found Ovations. They have a great deal for a first-​time wash, cut, and dry for $ 30 online. Take advantage of this! I first went in April and had bangs cut by Katie (I think). Love them. People have told me that they normally hate bangs, but love mine. I come in every month for a complimentary bang trim, who is done by someone else (Jess? She’s young) and they always do a great job. I’ve had my hair trimmed properly there twice now and I always love it. Also, the scheduling system/​scheduling person deserve 10 stars. I’m so happy to finally be able to book something anywhere in this city and not have it be a hassle. Ovations is the greatest.

First Brazilian wax of the summer and it was great! I will definitely becoming back! Staff was extremely welcoming and friendly.

In the midst of a hair emergency right before a wedding I am currently on my way to, Ovations was the only salon in the area that would let me do a quick walk-​in on a Saturday afternoon. I said that I just needed a bun or something, but my stylist was nice enough to give me a quick blowout since my hair was still damp from washing in the morning and throwing it in a ponytail for work. My bun took less than two minutes and looks beautiful. 5 stars for being so sweet, fitting me in, quick work, and a nice, clean studio.

I have lived in Philly for 9 years and still haven’t found a styilist, so I hopped and Unilocal for some direction. I grew my hair out super long for my wedding and basically didn’t get it cut for 2 years, needless to say it was long, damaged, and ratty looking.
Enter: Ovations. I actually made an appointment through email since they are closed on Sunday/​Monday and I wasn’t able to call to make an appointment. They were able to fit me in on Tuesday at 5:30 right after work, which was perfect.
The salon is very clean, neat, and chic. When you walk in, you are offered wine or water. :) I opted for the first-​time guest wash, cut, dry for $ 30 (which is a steal!). Kim was my stylist and she did a bang up job on my long, thick, Asian hair! She was so sweet and professional. I asked to take off about 5 inches, angles in front, and texturize at the end and it came out perfect! My hair is back to life!
When I left, I was given Kim’s hours and a few coupons for future visits. I will definitely be returning. It was such a wonderful experience. I feel like a new person!

Ovations is my new go to salon! Katie B. made me a blonde bombshell, and I feel fabulous she does beautiful work, gorgeous highlights, and really takes the time to perfect her work! Highly recommend both her and the salon.
The salon itself is nicely decorated, comfortable and clean. All of the staff members were welcoming, professional and so nice! I feel like the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of the work that was provided. I can’t wait to go back to Katie B!!!

Richard (the owner) is just awesome! He’s cut my hair twice since I moved to Philly and he does a great job with my unruly mane. I have long curly hair that I’ve been growing out. I had a period when I was straightening my hair daily and was guilty of a little too much flatironing. Growing the damage out has been quite a process, but Richard does a great job keeping as much length as possible and cleaning things up when I can get in for a trim. If you have curly hair, you know how scary it is to try a new stylist. Getting a typical straight hair type cut just doesn’t work and many stylists don’t know what they are doing. Richard is different — he’s very skilled and I feel at complete ease in his chair. He has styled my hair both curly and straight and both times it has looked great walking out the door!
The staff here is very sweet as well. The first time I went to Ovations, my taxi driver made a wrong turn and I ended up on a 30minute tour of New Jersey’s most industrial hot spots. I gave the salon a call and they were kind enough to keep my appointment. Not only that, but when I arrived, they were more worried about my wellbeing than my tardiness and gave me a glass of wine to ease my nerves!

Choosing the right salon always makes me feel nervous because I dont want to waste money on the final product I will regret for months… Thanks to Unilocal and I found Ovation. I went there last weekend to have Brazilian Blowout Keratin Treatment and was done by stylist Katie. The whole salon is small but very clean and cozy, which makes me feel very comfortable to get hair done there. Katie is a bit shy, not talking much but she is good at what she does… She washed my hair 4 times before the treatment making sure all chemicals on my hair are gone. She also gave me a towel to cover my nose during the blowout session since the smell is unbearable. At first I thought my hair was not soft enough after treatment, but after washing my hair properly a few times this week, it gets softer and softer… I am very pleased with the result. The reason I give 4 out 5 is coz of price… Hope this will be helpful to others reading the review, so you could make your decision in choosing the right salon :)

I’ve been getting my hair cut and colored by Anne at Ovations for almost five years now, and the results are always fantastic — but my reason for this review is their on-​site wedding day service. The Ovations team came to the bridal suite to do hair and makeup for my bridal party and family, and they were such a pleasure to work with. The hairstyles were stunning and the makeup was absolutely flawless! Guests were commenting all night about how beautiful the bridesmaids and our mothers looked. I felt incredible all evening and everyone looks amazing in the photos. Anne, Katie, and Dee completely exceeded my expectations and made it a dream wedding day.

Unfortunately last time I went here I had to wait almost an hour after my scheduled hair appointment. Going to try someplace else.

Almost 95% of the time, I leave a haircut appointment completely unsatisfied. I know that I am really picky. However, I am so happy that I found Ovations in my new neighborhood!!! I got a haircut from Kim and I absolutely love it. She definitely listened to how I wanted my hair and kept asking if she needed to make any changes or cut shorter etc. I did have her trim up the front layers around my face after she was finished and she did not mind at all. We talked for a little bit during the haircut and she was very professional. Another bonus is the discount on your first haircut. Mine was only $ 30! Kim and I talked about how when I come back she can work on my coloring (I have bayalage in my hair)…it has only been a month but I am already excited to book again at Ovations!

Great haircut and highlights by Kim. She was able to squeeze me in for a touch up too after the initial cut/​highlights. She is super sweet and detail oriented which helped with my first experience coloring my hair. So happy to have found a solid hair place in my new neighborhood. Prices are a bit steeper than I am used to but they have a first timer discount that’s worth checking out at the least.

Jay is the BEST! I have tried so many hair stylists before I met Jay — he just gets my hair. I have always walked out with the perfect cut and great styling. I am so sad that I’ll be moving! I will have to visit Philly just to visit Ovations :)
The entire staff is super friendly. I’m always greeted with such a nice smile and offer for a drink. It’s a 5-​star experience each time I go.

Lauren Kipple is a miracle worker — book an apt w her! She is caring, funny, and really LISTENS to what you want and makes it a reality!
Ovations is great because its easy to get an appointment there, the atmosphere and service is wonderful, it’s affordable, and you leave looking FAB.
I have had keratin treatments as well and I swear they last longer from Lauren then from any other place I’ve been too! Lauren went out of her way to show me that the keratin treatment and all the hair products shes uses are not tested on animals and had vegan ingredients. regardless of your own personal prefrences — taking that step to know your client is a super professional touch that leaves a very positive impression.

Mo, the aesthetician, is just wonderful. She gave me an extremely thorough facial and some pragmatic (and specific!) advice about what treatments and products would help my skin. She called me a few days letter to follow up with me, when many aestheticians will just give you their card (or even their spa’s flyer) as you are leaving.
The entire spa and salon staff is friendly, attentive and sweet.
