Pearl Theatre At Avenue North

Pretty average theater and I don’t really have any complaints. As per usual the movie theater food is over priced. But that’s all I have to complain about. On Tuesdays the tickets are discounted. And there is always a college student discount which is pretty awesome. It’s Definitely not luxury if that’s what you’re expecting haha but it gets the job done. Because of the location you’ll see, Temple Students, as well as Philadelphian locals. Which generally is an interesting crowd. They only complaint I had is when I heard a baby crying in Creed… Ms. Why is your baby watching Creed? I just don’t understand sometimes.
Just putting this out there. There is a nice Rite Aid next door… they sell things… just thought I put that out there.

Good movie theater, but at times depends on what you go… cause of noisy ppl and babies. Six dollar Tuesday is a must to come. Movies all day for six dollars… always come early for dem good movies so u can get favorite seat.

My mom often drags me to movies with her, movies in which usually involve her yelling at the screen, talking to other people in the movie who are yelling at the screen, crying, and just generally being the ghetto fabulous woman she is. Nothing can stop her, not even people looking back at her and yelling shut up. People like HER are the reason why theaters like this never reach their full potential. I will have to say when I go there without her it is a pleasant experience and no one is busy yelling, talking, or answering calls and texts. The popcorn is good and I love making it into medicine with the self serve butter.

4 means borderline stellar and 5 is like the Ritz-​Carlton, neither of which this is.
I don’t get the bad-​mouthing of this place, however; you know what neighborhood you’re in, so you know what you’re in for– South Philly track-​bike riding Temple hipsters and local randoms who could care less about «movie etiquette» whatever that means, considering everyone’s comfort level is different. Although someone’s phone went off like 30 times and I almost lost it, but that was only one time.
Anyway, I always go at around 12 – 3 so I’ve never had an issue. Maybe if it was late at night on a Friday/​Saturday I’d have a bigger complaint.
Pros: Not dirty.
Cons: Self-​serve popcorn condiments cause I’m a lazy, whiny arse.

is it a part of center city or the north philly… I think that part of cecil falls under north philly more than it does under center city!

Decent theater to watch a movie — the only problem is the type of patrons that patronize this establishment.
They’re the loud, young, obnoxious, and occasionally racist variety.
When is Center City getting a decent movie theater?

Your standard cinema for all your mainstream titles.
The multiplex has stadium seating, with the two larger screens in the back, and the other screens (at least 6 others) being noticeably smaller. This usually isn’t a problem, you should be able to have enough room to stretch, unless you go to a midnight showing of a movie with the equivalent of Dark Knight status (then people are probably sitting on the theater steps).
The Pearl’s location generates a very interesting client base. Just off the outskirts of Temple University, the clientele is 50% college crowd, 50% locals, coming to an amalgamation of 100% hood. That being said, go in expecting to hear the feedback of the audience on a frequent to consistent basis. As long as there’s no spoilers, I’m pretty open to viewer/​movie interaction. You have been warned.
