Check out our signature cookies: Almond Butter Sandwich, Chocolate Cream Sandwich, Peanut Butter and Jelly Thumbprints, and Chocolate Chip with M&Ms. We also make amazing cakes and cupcakes! We can customize them for you easily. Our Unicorn Cake is whimsical and bright, perfect for any party with pastel rainbow layers and strawberry buttercream.

Established in 2013.

Ramona Susan’s Bake Shop is South Philadelphia’s go-​to for home-​style desserts. Founded in 2013 by Betty Halpenny and Elly Koenig, it was named after Betty’s nurturing mother-​slash-​role-​model and pays homage to classic comforts found in your mother’s faithful recipes. Oh, your family didn’t bake? More of a reason to stop in and have a taste! Betty and Elly bring you delectable treats served with a bit of retro flair, dedication to simple comfort foods and, if you’re lucky, a side order of sass. (You’re welcome.)

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Betty graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City in 2007 with a degree in Pastry and Baking Arts and Restaurant Management. She honed her cake decoration skills at Brooklyn’s Betty Bakery before moving to Philadelphia and winning over Elly’s heart with a shared love for 80’s-era music. Elly attended the Art Institute and graduated in 2012 with a degree in Pastry and Baking Arts. In addition to managing the Flying Monkey, she has worked in the Parc Restaurant’s pastry kitchen, and led a few other local pastry teams before focusing on Ramona Susan’s. Her amazing dance moves won over Betty in a heartbeat. With a combined 30 years of baking experience, the duo is committed to simple desserts that will find a special place in your heart, whether you grew up with homemade cookies or your family’s special treats came out of a box.
