This place was by far the worst place I ever went to. I needed to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed for a wedding a month a way. I figured a simple hem, cute old granny, what could go wrong? She tells me it would take a week and to check in next Saturday. Ok. So the following Saturday I call ahead to see if it is finished and she tells me one more week. A week later I call and there was no answer so I left a message. I waited a day or two and I still have not heard from her. I decided to cruise by and there is a sign on the door saying closed for President’s weekend, be back 2⁄18. So I went back and the sign was removed but the shop was still closed. Meanwhile I had tried to call a dozen times and the message box was full. I now start panicking because my friend’s wedding is a week away. Finally I go back the next day and leave a note with my number on the door explaining the dire need for this dress. FINALLY I get a call from the daughter saying she was in the hospital and to come by the house across the street the next day. I thought well I feel bad she was in the hospital but you still have a business to run! At least leave a note informing your customers of the situation! The next day I went to her house and she literally hands me the keys to go across the street, open her shop and search for my dress. At this point all I want is my stinking dress! After searching through her mess of a shop I finally find my dress buried under a pile of clothes and bring it across the street back to her house. She then tells me she sewed it by hand and it will cost $ 75 but for me she will make an exception and only charge me $ 50. I’m so pissed at this point, wondering why in the world a hem would cost so much. It was a short, one layered, empire dress. My sister went to a place in fairmount and it only cost her $ 25. Did she sew it with thread made of gold? I think whatever I just want my dress, so I write her a check and run out of the house fuming. When I get home I try on the dress only to find out the hem is shit and the dress is still too long. This place is terrible, extremely unprofessional and a huge rip off! Do not go here!

She did a nice job on taking in a couple shirts and hemming some pants. Nice lady, nice job. And the cost seemed pretty reasonable too. Next time I have some alterations, I’ll be bringing it to Rita’s.

I take all my alterations to Rita, she is simply the best. If you don’t have a local Nonna to fix your clothes, then Rita is your lady. Just be sure to catch her before she goes away for her long vaca in August.
