South Street Barbers established 2009 started as dream. The owner (Will) has been an experienced barber for several years before deciding to open a barber shop of his dreams. In Philly on business, and this shop is one of the best barber shops that I have ever visited.
From the greeting upon entering (walk-​in) the shop to the professionalism displayed during my «cut». Kudos to the owner and staff-​my cut was perfect!

I trusted the reviews and was not disappointed. Quality cut, comfortable surroundings and no BS. They take pride in their work for good reason. Don’t get sucked into the shop closer to Broad St on South. I’ll be back next time I am in town. Just have to time it when I need another haircut.

The service? Fine. I was in town for made in America and walked in, got my haircut promptly and all the staff was nice enough. You might see the date and wonder why I’m waiting so long after made in America (almost a year) I’m writing this review. It’s because I just got another haircut, looked into the mirror, And was reminded of this place. Why am I reminded? BECAUSE THE SCAR ON MY FOREHEAD STILL HASNT FADED. As I sat in the chair, my barber (an African American guy, a little bigger, uses a cane at least at that time) audibly winced as his hand slipped and the clippers dug into my head. I thought to myself «everyone makes a mistake now and then» as I tried to not jerk from the pain and thus ruin my line up. As he cut me a second time my thoughts moved to «I’m really not looking forward to that alcohol» sure enough when he put it on I felt the burn. I’ve had close cuts before but never one that left me with a visible scar let alone one that’s still yet to fade. I know everyone makes mistakes but at least keep it real and apologize/​make it right with a discount.

I’ve always had great haircuts at South Street Barbers until two weeks ago. Joey, who always cut my hair in the past, has left to start his own shop apparently. That was ok. I had heard that all the barbers there were very good. The guy at the second chair on the right cut my hair. He asked how I wanted it and I told him fairly precisely – # 1.5 on top and shadow fade all around. His clippers pulled out more hair than they cut – a very painful haircut. I don’t know if they were dull or not oiled or what. The barber was too busy talking with a man whose boy was getting a haircut across the shop to notice that the clippers pulled out more hair than they cut and that I was wincing with every pass. The top of my hair was not all the same length and looked bad at the end. The fade was good – but I had to remind him again to fade the neck – no line. He asked, «do you want this round or square?» I had said «shadow fade.» It was not a good experience at all. Maybe it was a fluke, but since I had given this shop a perfect score in the past, I wanted to describe my most recent experience.

Nice salon for the ladies! I recently cut off about ¾ of my locs to switch things up a bit, and had never been to a barbershop before. At first I was a little intimidated because barbershops tend to be for the fellas, and salons for the ladies. But I had a clear picture of what I wanted and only a barber could take care of it. The guys there are very friendly, and understand that cutting a woman’s hair is different than a guy’s. They are willing to look at inspiration photos, and keep your cut looking feminine. SSB is my go-​to barber as long as I’m rocking this style!

Eli gave a great haircut to my boyfriend. He is an excellent barber and this is my favorite cut on him he has ever gotten. He carefully listened to what he wanted and gave suggestions based on his hair type. We are definitely coming back to see Eli!

My first time there was today and I love this joint. All the barbers were real cool, showed love, and I only waited for 10 minutes. Mike cut me. I was nervous at first cuz I been going to this jawn in Reading for two years so this was my first new barber in a while. Mike was phenomenal. Professional as hell, chill, and 100% on point with both clippers and edge. I will definitely be coming back. Respect.

I was looking for a new shop and I found it! The shop was clean and Jeff hooked me up lovely. He listened to me. He put up with my cell phone pics of what I wanted and delivered an awesome cut. Shop is open everyday that is really convenient. Very professional and polite staff made me feel valued and comfortable. I will be returning.

I walked by this place randomly on my second day living in Philadelphia. A week later I came back when I needed a haircut and was not disappointed. I am always a walk-​in (I hate having to stick to an appointment) and have never had to wait more then a couple minutes to be put in a chair. Because I don’t make appointments, I end up getting my hair cut by whatever guy is available at that time. I’ve had my cut done by probably 7 – 8 different barbers in there, and every time it comes out looking exactly how I want it to. The atmosphere is very chill and they always have good movies playing on the TV on the wall. I’ve now lived in Philly for almost two years and have never (and will never) get my hair cut anywhere else.

Highly disappointed in SSB tonight, which is usually top notch. Showed up at 730 and was told they were closed. If you want to close at 730, that’s fine, but don’t post your closing time at 8pm.

Called ahead to see if needed an appointment none needed. Was meet soon as came the in door from owner, Barbershop was very clean and comfortable. Not a long wait at all meet barber named Matt gave me a very nice haircut and recommended a few things need to do. Was in town from Baltimore needed haircut and Not sorry at all that I stopped for a cut. Will return !

Outstanding establishment. If you are looking for any style of haircut, South Street Barbers can accommodate.
This is your traditional Philadelphia barber shop where the conversation rarely strays from the Eagles or the Sixers (and a lot of players from both teams get their cuts at SSB too). Philadelphia sports memorabilia adorns all of the walls and you can always catch ESPN or a classic movie on the TV.
If you are a regular the staff will be sure to remember your name and appreciate your business. They are very meticulous and precise with their cuts so it can take a little while but the finished result is flawless each time.
The owner, Will, is a great guy and a master of his craft. Jeff, who cuts my hair is equally as outstanding. If you want a great cut, the classic men’s barber shop experience and to support a local business of grade-​A individuals, South Street Barbers is the place for you.

I understand that many people have had a good experience here, but I didn’t. I went in and asked for some help and advice with a haircut considering my face shape and whether a specific haircut would work. I was met with a «I dunno man, it’s your hair and I’m just your barber»…cue awkward silence. I didn’t get the haircut I wanted (wasn’t blended to the top like I asked) and was told «there’s nothing I can do about it» and he Walked away. Best part was paying for all of it to some random kid that was sleeping at the front desk and put my money in his pocket…

Although it’s my first time here, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Clean shop and a nice atmosphere.
I’ve had my fair share of bad cuts so I get nervous going to a new barber, but Eli took his time to make sure every strand of hair was perfect and he communicated what he was planning to do. Definitely made me feel like my hair was in good hands. And for a $ 23 + tip scissor cut, that kind of attention to detail is very much appreciated. Looking forward to coming back here when I’m in town!

Excellent customer service. Mike took his time and knew exactly what to do with the haircut request. Scissor cut $ 20 & up if I am not mistaken and clippers is $ 18 & up. Those are the price ranges but that can change or vary as well. This location has ample seating available about (7) so you aren’t standing unless it’s mobbed. Very clean… Floors were consistently swept during the time we were there. You can get your hair washed, face steam cleaned etc. it’s a very native Philadelphia business. recommend it!

I’m new to Philly, and my old barber in Boston was a special guy. I didn’t think I’d find anyone that could cut my hair like he does. But Mike gave me an excellent cut, and my girlfriend keeps telling me how tight my hair looks. I’m thrilled with it too. I have very thick hair and it can be difficult to work with. Mike took his time, but I was still in and out of the barber shop in about a half hour and he gave me exactly what I asked for. It was $ 23 plus tip. Not a bad deal at all. In addition, I felt welcomed into the shop even though I was a first timer.

Easily one of the best barbershops in Philly and would even recommend it as a tourist stop if you could us a haircut as it is on South Streer. The crew is cool, they have wifi, and time always flies if you have to wait. Being new to the area, I appreciate a truly local spot and think you will too. The clientele is diverse and you can get a Phillies logo on your head or a perfect professional clean cut.
