St. Peter’s Episcopal Church

Note that my review is for the church/​grave yard and not the church or associated services. I’m taking it as a good sign I didn’t burn up upon crossing into church grounds. Not taking a chance with crossing the threshold into a church itself. :P
Another rare spot of good vibey tranquility in the city, I almost want to keep it to myself!
I ventured here for the church’s Summer Concert Series. I was bracing myself for folks hungry for a soul to save, but nobody came at me armed with a holy book. Everyone was very nice and approachable! Dogs are allowed on the premises with the usual courtesies: on leash and clean up after (unlike Christ Church in Old City — no dogs!). I’ll definitely be back for the last concert this summer … and perhaps once in a while to enjoy the peace this space offers.

This a great church with an even better message. I always leave here with a great feeling and a better idea of what I can do to make this world a better place.

This is a large church with an extensive cemetery on the 300 block of Pine st. Its modest; cloaked by trees; and doesn’t face the street so most people don’t notice it. But its a superb site for strolling old Philadelphia history. The graveyard is open and unmonitored; well-​kept and maintained; one of the prettiest in the city. Definitely a gem for thoughtful introspective personalities. No one asks to see your visitor pass; you just saunter in and mosey around to your heart’s content. Stand for a while and just watch the shafts of dusty sunlight slant gently down on the headstones; the whole area blazes away like that almost all day long (thanks to a conducive juxtaposition of buildings which lets the light through). Really striking. The grass grows high and graceful until cut by the sexton; and big, big honey-​locust trees droop their fronds down over the whole site as well – quite spooky late at night, when bats appear. I’ve hidden from the cops in here a few times.
